Five-Hundred Word Challenge 439: I’ve Walked, I’ve had Breakfast

Well, once more into the fold, as they say.

I guess that would not be an accurate phrase to use for a morning such as this.

It is a little cold, I’ve walked, I’ve had breakfast, I am at work and I hear that it’s likely to be really busy due to a bunch of wonderful system issues.

To be honest, I think I’m looking forward to the challenge.

I did not approach work yesterday, as it was originally planned.

Instead, I stayed at uni and worked on the assignment that needed to be handed in as I was still rather ill.

Would have rather spent the time getting home a bit sooner and recovering instead of going to work and potentially coughing and spluttering over everything.
It does not make for a fun time for customer and customer service representative alike.

So now I’m here and I still feel a little wretched, but I’m active and that’s always a good thing.

Now to turn that being active into something more tangible when it comes to doing the thing with the voice that makes the customers want to do the things and not the other things.

The weather, whilst cold this morning, made for something pleasant when walking.

I think it may be due to warming up whilst walking.

It rained quite lightly and only for a very brief period, but there was indication that it rained overnight at some point.

Doing more walking is always good. I’m finding that, at my current location, it doesn’t take much more time to get around to places than using public transport (sans some locations), so I’m keeping a little more money in my proverbial pocket at the end of each week.

Cycling would, of course take even less time, but this week is not a week for cycling, sadly.

Well, it probably is, but at the moment I feel not like cycling and would rather direct my energy to walking.

Probably a good thing considering the wetter weather that has been in the second half of this week.

I should probably be more prepared than I am at the moment, but it won’t take long for me to make sure that everything is good to go.

Well, I hope that it won’t take long. Sometimes it can take a long, long time but this morning it won’t take long.

What am I even going on about at this point in time?

Soon there shall be walking in the bush once more. This is something that shall be achieved by walking into the bush.

This is something that I can do soon and soon it shall be done.

For now, rest, recovery and some other stuff which will then be followed by cramming for one last exam that sits on the fast approaching proverbial horizon.

Huh. I thought that would finish off this little post of this morning, but it didn’t, so I better expand and push out to some kind of end.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 06:41:12

Alright speed, not great post.

I hit a point where I kind of came to a halt whilst writing this, hence the partial shift.

Written at work.

Shade Trails

A photo I took a few weeks ago when I walked from Coogee to Bondi that has quickly become one of my “All-Time Favorites“, although I do wonder as to how long that will last.

There was a recent photo that had the same thing, but this photo was taken shortly beforehand and features the shade trails much more prominently.

As far as I’m aware, I’ve never seen shade trails before.

I found them to be awe-inspiring.

I think they work well with the scattering of the clouds which (to me) appear to mostly be massive in this shot.

I think that the different blues help to accentuate some of the textures and help bring everything together in a cohesive manner.

This is my submission into The Daily Post‘s final photo challenge.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 438: An Exam Approaching

Well, we’re now under an hour before the first final exam, which will  then be followed by another final assessment, which will then lead to approximately three weeks of study for the final final exam for the semester.

This is a timeline that I can abide by, but today is going to be a tight day.

I’m writing at the moment to keep the nerves calmed. They need no t go out of control over something that I think I can do okay on, but that thinking needs to produce something tangible in this situation.

I’m actually feeling pretty calm, but that may be due to coffee not yet completely kicking in. I’m sure that in a few minutes I will be panicking once more and I’ll be flying all over the place in some sort of attempt to save face and learn all that I need to learn before it all goes to something less than stellar.

Of course, I could be wrong, could remain calm the whole time and end up doing much better than I am currently anticipating.

Exams… I still do not like exams.
Assessments for subjects should be more practical than something that does little else other than test what one can remember.

In some areas they do have practical application, but in many a written exam does not seem to be useful.

Well, that’s my whinge for the morning.

I’ll see you all later!

Love love and many hugs.

So the exam today is on environmental impact assessment.
Whilst I do not enjoy the subject, it is something that I think everyone should do as much as they can to become familiar with as understanding environmental impact assessment does actually lead to understanding how developments can receive approval to go ahead.

It also (sometimes) allows for many people to have more of a stake in a development than they thought they may have.

Oh boy. I’m really running out of things to say with this one.

Well, I guess that very shortly I should get back to study so I can make sure that I do as well as I may possibly do.

There’s still  a fair bit to cover, but I think that I’ll be alright (at least to some extent) so long as I knuckle down and get it through it to the best of my ability, so long as I allow my ability to be the best that I can allow it to be, or something.

Sometimes I find myself wondering as to why I am still at university. I spend too much of my time stressed about what I’m doing and yearning to spend more time following more artistic endeavours.

At the moment, I think I have that desire, but at the same time I’m kind of looking forward to the challenge that I’ve given myself for today.

It’s a bit strange.

Well, it’s probably not that strange at all, but right now I feel as though it is strange.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 08:02:31

This isn’t that great and it’s a bit slower than more recent stuff, but I like that it’s a bit more serious than other recent things that I’ve written.

I also like that the text makes a lot more immediate sense than other recent writings.

One Thousand Word Challenge 27: Procrastination, Procrastination

So far this morning has been a mix of procrastination and study.

Well, it’s actually the afternoon now, so let me begin anew.

This morning was a mix of procrastination and study.
At the current moment, it still is a mix that is precariously balanced. Hopefully the study gains more weight and causes the lean to go that way, but who knows what will happen within the next thirty minutes?

What will happen after that?

At the moment that is the current one in a period of time defined by certain parameters, I can only surmise that this is procrastination and not a predictor to what will happen down the track.

I should probably be ignoring this at the current moment, but I don’t feel like doing such a thing.

Realistically I’m shooting myself in the foot by not concentrating on study, but I think that I’m a bit more over study than I’d like to admit.

I’m sitting here, typing away under the pretense of doing something productive when instead I could actually be doing something productive.

Oh well.

Once tomorrow is past I’ll have a bit more freedom to spread my wings, as it were.

Tomorrow has the joy of being a horrible day due to the requirement of one final exam needing to be passed, then one assessment requiring a physical hand in, then work and realistically I  have no space to moan about such as thing as I got myself into the situation and the only way out is with a lot of gumption,m a lot of elbow grease and a lot of hard work in order to get to the end of it all.

At the same time, something something something and so on.

I can only think of the many other things that I want to do which probably means that I’m letting myself fail for lack of trying.

Maybe it’s the fear of failure thing.

You know, you’re afraid of failure so you get really paranoid and lock yourself in your house and get a heavy growth around your face as you stuff yourself with food that has to be delivered to the door and slowly the moss creeps up the living room walls as your sweat stains the brown couch, the bags under your eyes get big enough to store things in them, and so on…

I think that I need to not do that as that would be a really bad way to go about my business.

I just want to walk, man, and I just want to get out there and away from the city and into the bush once more. I want to be able to walk around along a path in the sun or in the rain and slowly make my way to something else. I need to get away from the city as it holds no lustre for me and I’d much rather be among something that is much more real and more natural to me than something that breeds corporate activity.

Well, so does the bush but it’s much more in the background than it is in the fore.

Whilst I say this, I can’t ignore that tomorrow will be a hurdle that I need to jump over, but so long as I can do such a thing, I think I’ll be okay.

I’ll probably feel much less stressed and probably be able to keep on moving forward to something else, whatever that something else may be, if there is indeed something to be at all.

I think I just need a bit of a break from everything. Well, maybe not everything, but there are plenty of things that I think I may need a break from in order to allow for more rest and relaxation and so I can come back to everything recharged and ready so that I can then grapple the multi-headed beast that I’ve allowed into my life and successfully combat it in some form of hand-to-hand action.

There will be no quarter as we wrestle to the ground and to submission I shall drag the beast, for there is no stopping me once I get going, or something.

After all, tomorrow is another day and it is a day that can be surmounted with enough work, but that is… I think I’ve gone off track.

where was all of this leading to, if it was indeed leading to something at all?

I cannot remember.

Well, where should I go form here?

Oh yes. Tomorrow, then a bit of a rest in order to recharge, then something else that will lead to another something else, I think, but not always.

And yet, indelibly so there is a chance for that which will not be and yet so forth will be that which does not do and sometimes on occasion.

So I need to study and instead of doing so, I’m sitting here pissing on about things and wasting time, but at least I feel as though I’m getting stuff off of my mind, but the issue is is that this may not be worth the time it took to write. However, there is always the argument that everything written is worth the time so long as it leads to some sort of improvement regardless of how gradual that improvement may be.

With that being said, this may be a step down or a step up. there is no way to tell unless there is a way to tell.

Perhaps I have planted many hints throughout this tract, but the only way to find out is by getting here and and then reaching some sort of conclusion based on analysis.

Perhaps I really just don’t want to be in Sydney and want to run and hide form everything, but there is a beast out there that needs to be wrestled to the ground and only I can wrestle that beast, for that beast is mine and mine alone to wrestle to the ground.

he time it took to write one thousand words: 11:55:38

Alright, so there’s two reasons as to why this was written.

The first is that I haven’t done more than two uploads in a day in a while and wanted to see if I had the ability to do so whilst remaining consistent quality-wise. Not sure if I was, but then again the quality here has never been something that I would consider high.

The second is that I don’t do enough one thousand word challenges for my liking and wanted to see if I had enough to get one out. I think I did.

It was faster than expected.

Canal Crossing

As seen in Jubilee Park.

I think I may have gone a little too hard with light levels.

With that being said, I do like the contrast.

I think that the small amount of water creating only a partial reflection (and not a still one) creates a nice impression of what the bridge looks like.

I also think that the way the morning light is captured in the arches allows for a bit more depth and tone in the photo.

This is my entry into Leanne Cole‘s Monochrome Madness for this week.

I recommend checking out Monochrome Madness, as well as Leanne Cole’s work.
I also recommend that you consider participating. It’s been going for a few years and it’s a good way to be involved with a small, fun community.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 437: Grouchy in the Computer Lab

I hate how people come into the computer lab at university and then complain loudly about how they need to pass an exam whilst not talking whatsoever about exam content.

No. I actually love this. I love the complete and utter bullshit that I get to hear right now.

Shut up you annoying assholes!

Well, now that  I’ve got that out of the way, it seems that they’ve now all gone quiet which now seems to mean that I can get a little bit more work done.

What work is that?

Well, the almighty cram has once more reared its head and is making sure that I get to some stage of knowledge that will allow me to somehow bluff my way through an exam tomorrow.

No word on other things that need to be taken care of, unfortunately.

I’m sure that they’ll come a it later on in the day when I reach a point of panic that overrides everything that could account for reasonability.

Still feeling ill. Heating up and cooling down and having liquids come out of my nose, but thankfully no powders going up.

Couldn’t ruing my schnoz chamber with that kind of illicit behaviour.

It appears that there will be a tutorial being run in the computer lab today and that’s alright, although I wish it was on another day and not today as I’d much prefer the quiet to what I’m getting to hear at the current moment.

However, I imagine that it will be one that is fleeting and hopefully that is correct.

There’s too much noise in here at the moment, but that is something that I guess I’ll need to put up with as today is a busy day for many involved I imagine.

There are worse things to worry about out there, I guess.

Cannot focus unless I get to a point of focusing.

Wait, what does that…

I don’t even know anymore.

Or do I?

Oh. Here comes the gibberish.

So I’m here to dusty and I thought it would be quiet but I didn’t account for a tutorial being hosted today as it’s the last week before the exam period begins.

Still, I’m sure that I can get through some stuff and then get toward some sort of end that leads to something else and so on.

I think I just want the semester to be over and being ill has left me feeling grouchy and therefore I’m a little more irritable today.

Them’s the breaks, as they say.

On the plus side, I’m here and it’s warm and I could be lying in bed, trying to stop procrastinating, although this is a form of procrastinating, now that I think about it, although hasn’t that always been what it has been?

I just wish that the young fools would shut up and focus on their work.
I don’t want to hear them talking about their irrelevant things that they treat as the most important things in the world.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 06:54:24

Decent speed but probably could have been faster.
I think that being ill is a massive enabler for writing (sometimes), but I’ve dropped the ball on this one.

I do like that I became calmer (kind of) as the writing progressed.

Gladesville Bridge

About a week-and-a-half ago a friend of mine and I reconciled at this bridge during the sunset.

It had been about eighteen months since we last spoke and I’m glad that we’re speaking again.

It had been even longer since I was last at this part of Gladesville Bridge.

I’ve been to this particular spot a few times. It offers a surprisingly relaxing space with some nice views, but I digress.

I like how well the superstructure has been captured in this photo, as well as the lines and geometry on display.

I think that the detail comes through quite well.
I also think that there’s a good sense of depth based on the angle.

I think that in a sense the photo is somewhat striking.

Lastly, there’s something that I don’t know the words for that pulls me in in the same way that looking at Mount Solitary does the same.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 436: Complaining About Being Ill

OH, how I feel rancid on this very morning of the requiring of the work.

Well, I don’t feel as bad as I did last night and I’m pretty sure I’ve passed the peak of this annoying cold, but still, I’m going to complain as much as I can about the situation as that is what I want to do this morning.

It’s a lot better than complaining about customers. Well, maybe not better, but it is still something worthy of my time.

Well, not actually, but… anyway…

This cold is horrible! It rains down tyranny upon my very being and shakes me to the core! What am I to do in this horrid situation?

My nose is no longer running, but my soul has long since sprinted away from me!

There is no escape. It is all downhill from here.

What a terrible fate!

Thankfully, not a terrible fete.

That would probably be worse, if I am to so say so myself.

Well, with that being said, what is positive about this cold?

It seems to be comfortable. That is not a positive.

It seems to slow me down far more than I could ever wish. That is also not a positive.

There is only one way out and that way is through rest and recovery.
Supposedly also through the consumption of a significant amount of water.

Hopefully not too significant an amount.

To be honest, I’m surprised as to how quickly I’m rebounding, but I imagine that I’m deluding myself, or something.

With that being said, so long as I recover quickly, I can get back to doing the things that I do at an accelerated pace, which will in turn lead to something else (possibly).

I don’t even know as to what I’m going on about anymore!

Is this really my life?!

Is it?!

Yes.

I think at this point it is fairly apparent that I’ve run out of words to type when it comes to talking about being ill as it’s really not an interesting subject. However, I’m sure that I can stretch this out into something much better which will in turn hopefully lead to some sort of realisation of my brilliance.

Well, now I’m really into delusional territory.

Perhaps I am far more firmly within the grasp of the illness and it is taking over my mind.

Suppose that there is a cold that is trying to trick me. How would I know?

Well, there are probably a few ways to find out.

However, what if the cold is trying to trick me into thinking that it is deluding me by making me think and feel that I am ill when I am in fact not actually ill?

How would I know?

Well, I don’t know right now as in a few minutes I will be starting work and that is currently a more important thing to consider, although the only considering I need to do is for the customers and their many questions.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 06:22:68

This was pretty fun.

Well, it was kind of fun.

A bit of a dip before it picks back up whilst remaining a lengthy ramble.

Written at work.

Sports Field

An urban sports field designed for the purposes of sports.

I think that the angle helps to give a good idea of the size of the field.

I like that this isn’t a “perfect” field. There’s damage, you can see that the grass is lacking hydration and there’s clear indication of the field being used.

I hope you enjoy.

Front End Loader: Neutral Evil Review

This review can be read on Cool Try.
I recommend reading the other stuff that people are putting up there if you read this here.

Anyway, here’s the review.

—–

Front End Loader have been around for a while.

With Neutral Evil, there’s not much that deviates from the mid-tempo pacing throughout. There’s also an overall reduction in spreading out and playing with genre, but there’s is still a good amount of groove and range when it comes to use of melody. The songs are less spread out sound-wise, but they’re just as consistent and complimentary to each other as on previous Front End Loader records.

There’s also still a fair bit of playfulness and cheek to some of the songs which seems to belie a more serious subject matter. It works well as there’s just enough to make you think about the band’s intentions.

The vocals are as always as strong as everything else that makes up the band. There seems to be a little less swing this time around (some of the vocals sound a bit meaner in delivery, so to speak), but they are still nice and full and sit well with the meat of the songs themselves.

Unfortunately Neutral Evil is also a little too compressed in parts which does at times lead to audible clipping. It’s problematic as when it occurs it pulls you out of the song a bit too much. With that being said, the songs are generally strong enough to override this issue most of the time.

On Neutral Evil Front End Loader display a further narrowing of what was once a wide sound. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but it is a thing. Still, the record is focused and it is unmistakably a Front End Loader record. They’re a fairly consistent band when it comes to quality and Neutral Evil doesn’t deviate from that. What you get is a tight, punchy, groovy record that whilst unfortunately is on the louder side of things, does a good job of delivering some really solid songs.

Neutral Evil can be purchased here.
