Five-Hundred Word Challenge 184: Hats

Well, it was an interesting, long day and I’m glad that it’s over.

I’m also not going to talk about it as it’s not that interesting.

Today I’m going to talk about… hats.

HATS?!

Hats.

Hats are cool. You can wear them like you’re more awesome than Bono on a dairy rampage.

You think you’re too good to wear a hat? Get out of here!

A hat is a form of status in a bit of material shaped to fit on your head.
It makes you look sleek, strong, independent, groovy, spiffy, and sleek.

Hats can be worn normally, or on an angle and they can be worn comfortably in both ways.

It’s a rather impressive feat to be able to wear a hat in a way that it is not intended to be worn and still have it sit comfortably on your head. Not many things can be done that way.

You can’t do that with a shoe. Sure, you can wear a shoe on your hands and that may be comfortably, but you’d be taken for the fool you deserve to be taken for, you fool.

No hat? No problem.

Easily acquirable by going up into a tree and summoning the crows of the heavens to bring you one for the low low cost of something mysterious and not known until the time required to collect whatever it may be is at hand.

Hats can protect from the rain and can also give you a bit of shade. Shade can be needed when in the sun. Sun protection is much more important than you may consider it to be, so get one of those slapped onto your head quick. No sun? No excuse.

Ultraviolet is harsher when it’s overcast, so get that thing on already and quit your complaining. You get to look cooler than you’ll ever be able to be and you help prevent damage. There’s no reason as to why you shouldn’t wear one. Your hair is less important than your increased chance of surviving and your looking cool whilst utilising said item that increases chances of surviving.

Hats come in a variety of flavours, although vanilla and pistachio are not choices, unless they are colour variants, in which case they are. This is to allow even the most uncouth of the rabble to look spiffing and brilliant no matter the situation, unless it’s a fedora, in which case you need to wear a suit that a fedora would go with as it’s not much of a casual wear item.

Hats work wonders. They look cool and make you cool whilst protecting your head. They look good on their own as well as on a head. It can be a form of status and, combined with the right sunglasses, will make everything better around you automatically whilst allowing you to succeed at everything forever.

Not everyone can pull it off, but if you are able to, then you must do what is right for all, forever.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 08:52:64

I decided to write about hats because I could.

TAKE THAT, SOMEONE!

Uhhh… anyway…

Written at home.

The city from Redfern

Another photo taken in Redfern.

I like that the buildings in the background look a bit small.

I think that there’s a nice blend of different colours.

What I mostly like is the flag in the shot.

It’s been there for years and, quite frankly, I think it’s one of the best flags I’ve ever seen.

I think it’s much better than the Australian flag as it says much more with much less and is much more powerful and resonant.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Another University Rant

Well, it didn’t take long before I’d start fighting with someone at university.

A little less than two whole days. Rather impressive, I think.

Three of my courses this semester have mandatory lecture attendance, which clashes with my need to earn an income.

Of these courses, two have advised me of what to do in this regard.

Well, to be fair, one of them. The other one  still requires mandatory attendance but not necessarily physical attendance, so that’s okay.

The one that advised me of a workaround was really straightforward and for that I am happy.

The last course that has mandatory attendance is a little harder to budge.
The biggest issue that I have with this is that it’s a mandatory course for my major and the two lectures that it runs each week that I need to attend are both on days that screw with my ability to earn money and are also on days where nothing else is scheduled.

To add to this, the lectures for it are not recorded.

My biggest problem here is not so much that they are mandatory and not recorded.
It’s that the course coordinator isn’t exactly being respectable about the situation.

I sent an email to the course coordinator asking if the lectures were mandatory, explaining my situation and received a curt and overly blunt, yet professional response. From there, I replied by asking if there was a way to circumvent the mandatory requirement. I received another curt and overly blunt response advising that there wasn’t. I then asked if that would mean that I would fail attendance. I was told that I could take the course next year and once more the response was curt and overly blunt. I asked as to why the requirement was there and why there wasn’t a workaround and have not received a response since.

I’ve come to realise that the responses were dismissive in a way that the course coordinator seemed to imply that it was not worth their time and consideration. I admit that I could be entirely wrong with that assessment, but that’s how it’s come across.

I think that, as someone who is putting themselves into more debt to have the privilege of going through a course, I deserve a bit more than curt, overly blunt responses.

I could take the course next year. The issues are that there’s no guarantee that my need to work won’t clash with the lectures and the course in question could end up clashing with third year courses. If that ends up being the case, then I’m forced into a position where I have to spend another semester in two years’ time to do one subject before I can mover on from my bachelors.

I understand that the course coordinator is probably a busy person. I don’t think that’s justification for being dismissive. Yes, you might run the course and you might be employed by the university for other things, but your position as course coordinator involves assisting the students who are part of your course to the best of your ability. If the best of your ability is to be dismissive, then you might not be appropriate for running a course.

I could drop one of the other subjects that I’m doing, but the issue here is that they’re earning my respect. As stuck up as it seems, I have trouble doing something being run by someone that I don’t respect.

So I’m in a situation where I’m going to be taking it further. I don’t want to, but I wouldn’t be if I had received better responses and the coordinator had been a bit more helpful. It’s not so much about getting my way either. I’m happy to drop the course for now if I can get some sort of assurance that it’s unlikely that there will be any clashes next year and that, if there are, I will be fine, but that’s unlikely that I will receive something like that and I’m not holding my breath.

Also, I think that needing to pay $130 for a field trip for a course I’ve put myself over $1,000 in debt to be a part of and be dismissively told that I can do the course next year because lectures of the course are mandatory without being told why is quite poor.

I know that I’m having a whinge, but I can’t help but be bothered by the situation.
Other than how it directly affects me, I’m left wondering as to how many others have gone through the same situation.

Tracks to and From the City

Whilst I was heading somewhere in Redfern to meet up with someone for a nice breakfast last week, I took this shot.

Wait… we’d already met up at this point.

There was another shot that I’d taken and after meeting up with them I asked if it would be alright if I took a few more shots of the same location.

I think that the light and colour balance in this photo is really good.

I also think that, whilst there’s a lot of detail, the photo doesn’t feel cluttered.

To me, it gives a sense of a journey. The city is much closer than it appears, but it still feels like it will take a bit of time.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Something that Happened on my Birthday

This one’s going to be short.

Recently it was my birthday. I think I didn’t think much about what it meant as I’ve probably done enough of that in my (admittedly short) life so far.

Other than bush-walking with Ewe, I went bowling with a Ewe and a some other people close to me.

I didn’t want anything big, didn’t get anything big and ended up doing stuff that I enjoyed.

Now that that’s out of the way, I’ll get to the main part of this post.

Si went over to the bar of where we were at one point to get some drinks.
Two guys were there drinking and celebrating as they had a big win at the casino. They offered Si a shot, which he ended up having before walking away.

Later on someone else saw that they were getting escorted off the premises.
It had turned out that, in celebration of their luck, they decided that a bathroom was not good enough for their royal bladders.

Looking for something that they could deem worthy, the two winners decided that the arcade section of where we were would be the only place with which they could grace their need for release and promptly urinated as soon as they could.

It was a rather audacious move.

Anyway, it was a good birthday.

View from a Rock Platform

ANOTHER SHOT FROM BUSH-WALKING!

This one is quite scenic, in my opinion.

The light is okay, but the way that the land was captured, as well as the reflection of the clouds makes it really beautiful to me.

I like that, despite there being a wave, this scene feels quite still.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 183: Comma Abuse

I think the rain has finally lifted, which means that my clothes can finally be washed without getting rained upon for long enough to make them require being washed again, which makes me happy as I’m running out of clothes, which is a bad thing as I don’t want to be going into work wearing dirty clothes, or anywhere else for that matter as I much prefer to look and smell clean, although at times I can’t really be bothered with the whole shower thing (usually when I’m in the middle of nowhere and pretty much nowhere else, unless I am gravely mistaken, for which I apologise if I just so happen to be), but even so, there is a requirement that I at least smell and look hygienic, so hygienic I must remain, part of which involves having clean clothes to wear when I’m off to work or other places that I am choosing to go, so I am glad that the rain is over as now my clothes will dry and I’ll be able to do some plant maintenance and mow the backyard as the grass has grown rather long over the many days of wet water falling from the sky onto the earth that lies so innocently below, so now it requires the cutting of the force of blades spinning really fast at a low level above the ground in order to help maintain the backyard and make sure that it is easy enough to get around without wondering if you’re stepping on any small creatures (it’s gotten pretty bad), so, other than the washing, that will also be taken care of, as well as the plants that I’m growing as it seems that, whilst they have been very appreciative of the great deal of water that they have received since the wet weather set in, they too are getting tired of it as some of them seem to have some sort of parasite growing on them (by them, I am referring to just one plant) and that’s not something I want to allow so I’ll be taking care of that as quickly as I can, which is probably not that fast now that I think about it as, whilst I’d like to believe I’m rather quick when it comes to getting things done, I’m probably not quick in the slightest although I imagine that I’m much faster than other people, although that’s not really something for me to judge right now as I’m sitting down in front of the computer trying to procrastinate in the hopes that everything that needs to be done will instead take care of itself, but as we all know that a backyard won’t start mowing itself, it is something that I am tasked to take care of whether I want to or not, despite my silent protesting by sitting around and doing nothing, so I may as well get up and take care of it it as soon as I can.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 08:43:61

There’s a few other things that I was going to write about today, but I’ve been procrastinating all morning, so I’ll get around to them a bit later.

In regards to this, it came really easily and I’m happy about that, but it could have been better.

Then again, it can always be better.

Fire Trail

This is part of the fire trail that runs along the Narrow Neck Plateau.

In this photo we can see a small part of “The Road Taken” when I went solo camping last year.

I took this during the walk back.

I like how in this photo you can see the unsaturated greens and browns of the Australian bush contrasting nicely with the brightness of the sky and the clouds.

I also like that you can see that there was wind when the photo was taken.

This is my submission into The Daily Post‘s photo challenge for this week.

I hope you enjoy.

Neurosis: Live at Manning Bar 17/02/2017 Review

Kicking off the proceedings was the sounds of Dispossessed.
Their sound was harsh and intense without becoming a noisy mess.
Aside from a mic not being loud enough for singing at one point, it was a strong set.
Regardless of if you agree with what they are working toward, they are a live act worth seeing.

Neurosis came on and began a set that was a little more full-on than the last time they were here. Like their albums, it had a good ebb and flow with the songs not feeling too far removed from each other, despite clearly being from different eras.

Of particular note was how well that the songs from Fires Within Fires fit into the set. On album, whilst still clearly songs from Neurosis, there is a shift from past albums. However, when performed live they fit in without feeling jarring.

Like Dispossessed, there was clarity in the sound which was a massive benefit for the audience as Neurosis’s music wouldn’t work live if it sounded muddy.

Whilst their songs are recorded live, the live performance does feel different. There aren’t much changes, but they feel much more like they’re drawing you in. Perhaps this has to do with live presence. It may also have to do with their songs having something akin to an aggressive energy without anger.

Every member performed well and built on each other nicely. If there were any errors, the audience didn’t notice as they were letting the music draw them into it without resistance.

Overall the performance of both bands were good.
Dispossessed still have a bit of a way to go, but their live set is solid.
Neurosis have been performing for a long time, but they still put in as much as they can.

It was a gig worth seeing and I can only hope that they perform together again. If not, I hope that Dispossessed get more gigs and Neurosis come to our shores at least once more.

Shadow on the Cliff Face

This is my submission into Leanne Cole‘s Monochrome Madness this week.

As this one is themed due to being the first Thursday of the month, the theme is “Shadow/s”.

Whilst I was in the Royal National Park with Ewe last week, I took the theme into consideration with some of the photos that I took.

This was the best one for it, I think.

I like that the shadow only covers part of the face of the cliff.

I also like how the photo being monochrome really brings out the shape of the cliff.

I recommend checking out Leanne Cole’s work, as well as Monochrome Madness.
If it’s your thing, consider participating.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.
