Moving Through the City Circle

This was a shot taken in late October on the same day as these ones.

I like how long the train appears to be. To me, it seems much longer than it actually was.
I also like how it almost seems to be not moving at all.

This is my submission into Leanne Cole‘s Monochrome Madness this week.

I suggest checking it out, as well as Leanne’s work outside of M.M.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Leaning

I’m pretty tired at the moment so I’m going to keep this brief.

It’s another shot based around perspective.

I hope you enjoy.

Watching Over the Bending Bridge

Yet another shot from last week.

I think it was just after taking this shot that I noticed what the perspective did to the Anzac Bridge. Suffice to say, I was chuffed as, whilst I like that the bridge looks like it was bending, I also like that I got to see the bridge in a different way (as you will be able to now as well).

I think it’s nice that the Anzac Bridge feels quite large in the photo.

I noticed the eye whilst I was processing the photo and thought that it was rather interesting, although I’m not sure as to what it adds to the photo.

Perhaps the feeling of being watched.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 161: Group Work Vexes Me

I’m pretty sure I’ve written about this before, but it’s something that I’m going to write about again as I feel like having a bit of a pointless whinge, so that is what I’m going to now engage in doing.

Group work.

I do not enjoy group work.
Perhaps it has something to do with my being older than the majority of the students not only in my group, but also in my class.

Actually, that’s most likely the entire reason as to why.
I’ve been working in teams for over a decade. I know how to work with other people. I know how a good team can function. University does not seem to give an idea of what team work is like because (strictly speaking from my own experience), it’s really basic and only has a bearing on grading that may actually be irrelevant.

Of course, I do have to admit that there is a possibility that group work changes the farther into studies I go, which means that perhaps some of the students will get the idea that they need to participate as part of the team in order for the team to function, but at this current junction in time, I have fairly strong doubts that this will be the case and during my studies I will remain stuck in a position where I’m putting up with a bunch of idiots who don’t understand that maybe the person with the most experience when it comes to working in proper team situations should be the one giving the directions that should be followed, as well as the one that should be allowed to govern the team.

I won’t deny that sometimes someone with a lack of experience in team situations can be pretty insightful. However, that doesn’t change the experience that I’ve had so far; the experience of being in groups of people that don’t seem to grasp the concept of what working in a team is and then don’t seem to bother to actually help with the team work, causing the team to suffer because their being lazy puts greater pressure on everyone else.

You have commitments outside of university. I understand that. Pull your finger out of your ass and start actually contributing or get out of the course. I don’t care if you “can’t” find the time to go out of your way to do something that will help in the long run. You’re doing a subject and you’re too far in to back out without some sort of academic penalty, so start pulling your weight and help out instead of being lazy because you’re not interested.

The course may strongly affect you in some way and you’re part of a group, so you are now obligated to make sure that you don’t cause everyone else to suffer some sort of academic markdown.

You’re there to learn. You’re not there to waste everyone’s time because you want to throw everything into the “too hard” basket.

Slower than I thought I was going, but I’m not to fussed.
Please imagine that I’m shouting the following at the heavens whilst experiencing some sort of anguished torment.

GROUP WORK!

Abbreviated Horizon

It’s another shot that was taken earlier this week.
When I saw the side of this building I wanted to see what I could do with it when trying to use perspective.
I like how it looks. It’s kind of a “New Horizon“.
Whilst I do like the design and layout of cities – I think that their shapes and layouts are usually pretty interesting despite being somewhat unpleasant – they’re something that I’m going to try and spend more time away from.

This is my entry into this week’s photo challenge from The Daily Post.

I hope you enjoy.

Urban Sprawl

I was going to write something, but I want to go to bed very quickly, so it’s just a photo tonight.

A shame… A shame…

Anyway…

This one I like as it has a bit of a contrast between the suburban and C.B.D areas.

It also feels somewhat layered and (to me) has a slightly unwelcoming, or cold atmosphere.

Maybe it feels a bit ugly.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Windows

I had worked out what I was going to take a picture of for Leanne Cole‘s Monochrome Madness this week, so on Monday after work I headed out to the area where I was hoping to find what I was going to capture.

I came across this along the way and felt it would be good.

Whilst I didn’t come across what I was looking for, I did get a number of photos that I’m happy with and I was able to see an unfamiliar part of an area that I’ve been through many times.

I like how the city is reflected twice in this photo, as well as how the windows are angled.
I also like that there’s three different patterns (I think) in the shot; the window shape, the angling of the decorative frames and the reflection.

This week is a themed M.M.
The theme is “Square or Rectangle”.

I strongly recommend checking out what everyone else is submitting, as well as Leanne’s photography.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 160: Yet Again, More Stuff About not Having Ideas for Writing.

So I was going to write about how something was taken away from me which made me angry, but it was completely and utterly pointless (well, more than usual) and what happened wasn’t anything that could be considered something big by any measure, so I decided not to, but the problem is that, once again I have nothing to write about and am force to pull something out of the air around me in the hopes that an idea will come to me as quickly as I can type (hopefully faster than that, but let’s not hold our breath here), giving me some sort of stroke of genius that will leave something more than boring to put here.

However, I don’t really feel like doing much writing at the moment anyway, thus putting me in a position to force my way through writing until I get back to wanting to write and thinking in whatever way that I do in order to write the things that I do, leaving you, the reader, to engage in the act of reading the writing that I write.

With all of that being said, I probably don’t have any ideas right now. I probably won’t have any until some undetermined point in the future and am thus left to try and wallow in my misery (that doesn’t exist) whilst I wait out the dearth of ideas to ride a pony on a caramel road down on in order to somehow vindicate my inability to come up with something that could be considered worthy of my flying fingers over the keys of destiny to create on a magical parchment of data that will enable the viewing of the words as they fly past your face in some sort of continuously flowing direction because they are the words that the text would be comprised of, thus leading to the reading of the writing without fighting.

I also probably don’t have much interesting things to say, for I am currently silent and do not feel like talking as that would involve stopping the writing that I am typing and that is not something that I want to do as I feel that I am currently on a roll into nothingness and all I can do is continue to go further down into the veritable darkness and see where it takes me as I blindly waddle my way further into something that seems to have no end in sight.

Well, no end until I reach the end, of which then I shall see the other side and realise that I haven’t really gone anywhere other than out of bed and into the bathroom without bumping into anything, which is some kind of amazing achievement.

Well, it’s only amazing sometimes. Most of the time it’s routine to not bump into anything in the darkness whilst making my way to the bathroom.

Well, I hope that it’s routine. I also hope that it’s fairly straightforward.

It’s really good to hope.

Hooray.

Well, time to think!

Arriving at Circular Quay

I’m pretty sure that I was aiming to try and get something like this when I took this photo.
I could be wrong. It’s possible that I wanted to try and get two trains “connected” with each other.

Anyway, I think it’s a nice little photo. The trains look like they were going faster than they were (they were stopping) and there’s a nice contrasting stillness around them.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 159: Hawaiian Shirt

There’s something that can be said about the extreme inability to care about what others think about your complete lack of fashion when you’re wearing the mighty item known as the Hawaiian shirt.

You put on the garish piece of clothing that will forever define who you are for but a few fleeting moments of your life and suddenly, you are the king (or queen) over all, for no one can touch you and your mighty ability to be completely and utterly indifferent to the opinion of those around you, for you know that you are suddenly the coolest person alive (and then some).

For that period of wearing the shirt, you are untouchable in just how cool and brilliant you are. Everyone recognises it, yet they all refuse to acknowledge such a thing because they fear that if they do, they will be admitting some sort of defeat that they cannot allow to happen as it will shatter the very reality they’ve work ed so hard to cultivate; A reality that lies by espousing pseudo-coolness and forever shunning the Hawaiian shirt as something that can never be cool unless worn ironically, for only the hipster can wear such an item and it is an item that cannot be enjoyed in the wearing position unless there is severe irony involved.

If this pseudo-reality is shattered, they will be forced to admit just how much they have been lying about the fact that a Hawaiian shirt can be worn very easily and enjoyed for it’s hideous (and sometimes loud) nature.

Nobody truly wants to admit this, but deep down inside, they know that one day they will have to admit that there’s a little bit of big fat party animal in many of us and trying to suppress such a thing because it doesn’t confirm with their non-conformist beliefs will inevitably lead to some sort of failure in the system which would cause the mind to collapse from the suppression of the truth that so nags away and gnaws at their thoughts, letting loose their fears of a world of wearing Hawaiian shirts without a hint of irony to run rampant until they are finally forced to cry to the heavens about a world for which they cannot have.

With all of that being said, there are probably times when wearing a Hawaiian shirt could possibly be considered inappropriate to wear, such as a funeral. This is a situation where it is quite possible that wearing a Hawaiian shirt would be frowned upon.

It is something that enables a severe disregard for the dearth of fashion sense of those around you, but due to the power that rests within a Hawaiian shirt, it is certainly something that one should always choose to wear only at appropriate times.

Thankfully, inappropriate times are few and far between, for it truly is an article of clothing that knows few equals and only knows how to look wonderfully amazing all the time.

All the time.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 09:58:74

Interesting thing about writing this one: Most of it was written at work. I had to finish it at home as my shift was over before this was completed.

I slowed down much more when I started writing this at my desk.

Oh well.

Written at work and home.
