A View Near Watsons Bay

On Tuesday I decided to cycle to Watsons Bay to get some shots of the ocean, before heading to Bondi Beach for a swim.

Here are two of the photos.

It seems almost as though the clouds are forming a passageway on the ocean.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 76: You go Outside With Your Tea

You go outside with your tea and stand in your backyard, marveling at what is around you whilst you slowly sip away.

You look at the trees and see cicada shells on the trunks and branches as you listen to their song

You see a kookaburra perched on a gum tree and listen to it laughing away.

You see a currawong land on a branch, taking a  brief rest before it decides to fly off elsewhere.

You decide to go for a short stroll, so you hop over the fence and make your way to the nearest valley.

Along the way you see a flowers in full bloom, enjoying the sun being out and shining brightly down upon them.
You see bees working their way around all the flowers, keeping themselves busy with their task of assisting pollination.

You see butterflies flying around, looking for a mate.

Rosellas can be seen chirping at each other, looking for food to eat and filling the area with more colour as they fly around.

You get to the valley, take a sip from your tea and follow a creek nearby.

You see yabbies and freshwater crabs near where the creek becomes a river.

You see a shoal of fish swimming around, finding little bits and pieces of food to eat.

You keep following the stream for a while.

You keep sipping away at your tea, marveling at all the beautiful nature around you.

You think about how wonderful it all is, to be able to get right into bushland so easily from your home, and how much time you’re able to spend exploring it, especially in the morning, just after the sun has risen and many of the creatures seem to have woken up.

Eventually you realise that you are not wearing pants and it’s a bit cold, so you decide to head back home.

Whilst this is a pretty poorly written piece of text that was meant to be a really long lead up to a crappy punchline, I do wish I could live much closer to the bush than I do now.

I also want to live much closer to the ocean than I do now.

Perhaps I could live between the two and spend my time learning how to run really fast so I can get to either one with little difficulty (although, it already is pretty easy for me to get to the ocean right now, but not as easy as I’d like for it to be).

We’re currently right near the beginning for 2016, as it has only been a few days since the calendar ticked over to a new year, so here we are, at last, presently in the future.

Seeing as it is currently the future, maybe soon there will be some sort of future technology that will allow one to live both close to the ocean and the bush at the same time?

With that being said, it’s currently possible, but you also need a car.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 11:07:52

Appallingly slow.
I don’t think the joke worked at all.

On a not-so-unrelated note, there are a number of places I’d rather live than in the city, but I do not have a car, nor have I completed my studies; something I’d rather do so I can work towards doing what I want to do, which would then make it easier for me to live near the bush and the ocean at the same time.

End of 2015

What a year.

There was a lot that happened.

The first half was a weird continual semi-assault on my being for a while as many things seemed to go wrong.

The second half picked up significantly.

I’m not in the best place I’ve ever been, but right now, I can say that I’m happier than I’ve been in a long time.

I lost friends this year.

One of them I had been a friend for nine years.

It was quite upsetting when it happened and in some ways it still is, as they just went quiet on me.

I don’t know why and I don’t think I’ll ever find out.

I lost a job that was damaging me and I had two people who were bad for my health go as well.

There were many other things that happened as well.

But, with all that being said, I had friendships that strengthened significantly and I feel that, in many ways, I’m able to be more of myself than I felt I was allowed to previously.

I’m doing more of the things that I enjoy doing.

I’m back at university.

I’m working on all the things I like working on.

To go into everything that happened would take far too long and a lot of it is minor and petty and not worth the time it would take to discuss.

With that being said, right now I’m feeling pretty good.

2016 is around the corner and I’m going in feeling as though it’s another day.

This year though… what a year.

If people asked me where I see myself in five years, I wouldn’t be able to tell them as I don’t have 2020 vision.

However, I would be able to tell them that I had a year where, whilst it started off terribly, it improved and it’s the first time in a long time where I’ve felt I’ve come out on top.

2016?

Bring it on.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 75: Wandering Through the Dessert

Thoughtless is my mind at the moment.

Blank and desolate.

An open expanse of nothingness.

A vast dessert stretches out in front of me.

I wear a stern look on my face, not knowing where to go or where to wander.

I move forward to try and see if I can find anything whilst clouds build up above me in the sky.

I walk for a long time, seeing nothing but a featureless field of rock, dirt and sand.

On occasion, there are various shrubs and a creature or two, but otherwise, nothing of significance seems to pop out around me as I continue to wander, looking for something that could possibly point me in the right direction.

Not necessarily to civilisation, but to inspiration away from constant perspiration.

Winds begin to pick up and rain starts to fall.

I cannot see shelter anywhere around me, so I begin to run before the rain gets heavy.

I run for a long time against the wind and soon I see some large object.

I decide to pick up my pace as the sooner I get there, the sooner I may be able to avoid getting caught in heavy rain that will fill the void.

The closer I get, the more it looks like shelter.
However, before I can reach it, the rain becomes heavy and the winds become strong.

I keep on moving forward though, as if I don’t stop, then soon I will be swimming there.

I get close and soon I see that it is a large rock formation with a cave.

I get into the cave and out of the rain.

It is leading upwards, but I do not follow it as I must continue my journey outside once the rain lifts.

It takes days for it to stop.

Once it does, I step outside. It looks as though it did not rain at all.

I continue walking through the dry and end up stumbling across an oasis.
I decide to continue on though as I need to find something to use that will keep me going on and get me out of this empty place that I’ve stupidly put myself in for no reason other than to search for something that I probably never needed to look for in the first place.

After many more days of walking, I being to feel as though I am dragging a heavy weight.

My lips are dry and my skin is cracking.

My joints are aching and I begin to feel as though I am unable to continue any further than I already have.

I fall to the groun and do not feel as though I have the strength to get up.

Oh, why, oh why, oh why did I have to end up in this great dessert?

Wait… it’s a dessert?

Not noticing this before, I decide to take a bite out of the ground and find that it tastes like a well-made chocolate pudding.

It’s so wonderfully delicious.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 9:19:38

Alright, so the idea with this was originally to write something that was kind of serious and not cheesy. I know that I wanted to use the desert. However, whilst I was thinking about writing this (and before I started), I decided that it turning out to be a giant dessert would be better, as I wanted to make this silly.

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

Self-portrait

Here’s a picture I took when I went to the lookout point near Bondi Beach to get photos of the sunrise.
It was partially an accident.

I was sitting in front of the camera to use the remote to get a shot of some of the land (I’m probably remembering this incorrectly though and was probably trying to get a shot of myself).
Forgetting how zoomed in it was, this was the result.

I don’t take much interest in photographing myself beyond pulling a stupid face or having a ridiculous pose as I don’t consider myself an interesting subject.

With that being said, I do like this photo quite a lot.

I like how the light is sitting on my face and how I look oblivious to the shot as my focus appears to be on something far more serious and awe-inspiring (whilst I may have been aware, I do know that, based on the direction I was facing, I was looking at the sunrise at the time, which certainly was awe-inspiring).

I also like that it highlights how tired I am (there had been a number of nights where sleep had been short before getting up to get the sunrise photos) by highlighting the creases under my eyes.

I think that as the red and blue (and other, less prominent colours) aren’t clashing, they make the picture feel warm.

I don’t think this photos would have worked with a different background.
It adds a lot more light to the photo without making it overly bright and feels ambient.

Well, that’s what I think.

If it had been anyone else, I would still like the photo.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 74: A Malevolent Force in the Kitchen

I’m currently feeling quite hungry.
I know that I should go to my kitchen and make myself something to eat.

I would make a snack, but it would be easier to make an early dinner that is equal amounts filling and delicious.

However, The kitchen is a bit too far away from where I am right now.

Five metres is just a little too far away to travel to make food.

Well, approximately five metres. I don’t have a ruler on me right now to check the exact distance.

The odd thing about this is that, at the job that just wrapped up, I would go to the work kitchen whenever I felt like it was necessary  and that was much further away from my desk than my kitchen at home is from where I am sitting right now.

I think it has something to do with the fact that if I go into the kitchen, I will be forced into a position where I have to use effort that I could be using elsewhere.

Either that or… there is some sort of malevolent force that… will suck my effort away if I go into the kitchen!

That makes a lot more sense and sounds much more truthful than what the “truth” actually is.

I haven’t had any issues with passing through the kitchen, but that’s probably because I’m not spending too much time in there if I’m passing through.

If I spend more than a few seconds in there though, I will be caught in the force’s web and will slowly be sucked dry of anything even remotely resembling effort until I become some sort of non-amorphous blob that will do not much more than make vary slowly, lazy movements and gestures that will refuse to get off the couch unless it is absolutely necessary.

Well, I don’t want that to happen!

Maybe it would end up sucking most of my life away as well, which would lead to my being only being a representation of who I am in a purely physical sense.

I’ll be there, but as I wouldn’t really exist beyond my physical presence, I wouldn’t be there.

People would try to talk to me, but they’d only get vague, flat responses that would lead to nowhere and would indicate that something is missing.

Something… internally… wouldn’t be there anymore all because I spent too long in the kitchen instead of remaining where I had originally been, remaining hungry, as whilst I would be hungry, I wouldn’t fall victim to this malevolent force that is waiting for me to drop my guard, go in and make myself an appetising meal that I would hungrily wolf down.

Although I wouldn’t be able to eat it. I would be drained before I could start preparing the ingredients of a meal fit for a me.

I could just go in and exert my effort to destroy the malevolent force, then make myself something.

That would actually be pretty easy.

The time it took to write five-hundred words:  9:59:95
Only a few hundredths of a second under!
I was surprised I was able to write this with as much ease as I did as I am feeling quite hungry and am contemplating an early dinner.
Still, much to do before then!

Despite being in the “Fiction” category, the kitchen at my now ex-work place was farther away from my desk there than my kitchen at home is from where I am currently.

That might seem like superfluous knowledge, but it might just come in handy one day.

Crushed Coffee Cup

I was at the Australian Museum recently, walking around and looking at things that I’d seen many times before, as well as some new things as it underwent renovations recently.

Whilst sitting on a bench, I saw this coffee cup in front of me.
Finding it interesting, I decided to take some photos of it.

I find it difficult to say what I like about these photos.

I think it has a lot to do with the colours and angles.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 73: A Lack of Ideas

“Here I sit… because I am actually sitting instead of standing elsewhere in this room of intrepid design”, he thought to himself as he sat there, in front of his laptop, furiously typing away in an attempt to churn out five-hundred words, five-hundred coherent words that would form some sort of story.

But alas, on that particular night, it was not to be.

He had too many ideas swimming around in his cranium.

Maybe it was far too little.

The fact remains that he was there, sitting down, in front of his laptop, trying to think of something, anything, to write about, but there was nothing that was coming to the forefront to volunteer as an idea.

He did not know what to do about this particular situation, as usually he is able to push past his lack of ideas to com up with something, regardless of how much it was gibberish.

He considered staying up until he had something to work with, but that would leave him feeling rather tired as whilst he didn’t know how long it would take to come up with something, he knew that it was most likely going to be a very long time and staying up for hours on end just to think of something was not something he was interested in doing.

He considered seeing if he could throw his head against the desk to help bring inspiration.
He didn’t do it, but it gave him the idea of writing about a desk that could sink into the floor and travel around whilst it was in the floor, but decided it was a silly idea when he tried typing something out about it, as whilst there were word that came to the forefront, it did not seem to work well as an idea.

Rubbing his eyes and yawning, he kept on trying to get something out, but there was nothing that interested him.

He tried writing about a banana that doubled as poultry every second Thursday, but it seemed even more ridiculous than the last idea he had.

He also considered writing about a magical, time traveling, talking microwave, but not long after he considered it, he realised it was absolutely and utterly stupid as an idea and decided never to entertain the thought of writing about such a thing ever again.

He took a brief break to look at something else, then made an attempt again, but nothing was coming.

He didn’t feel stressed by this, but he was getting annoyed as he just wanted to write something that made more sense than the usual things he wrote, as he was not in the mood for having gibberish come out of the tips of his fingers and show up on the screen of his computer.

That night was not one of those nights though.

Maybe he had a sever case of writer’s block and he wasn’t willing to accept that this was the case.

Eventually, he decided to go to sleep.

The time it took to write five-hundred words:  10:01:51
Just over ten minutes.
I thought I’d try to make a story out of not being able to write tonight (not that that’s any different from usual).
It’s… something.

Retrieval of a Ball

Today I was going to share a single photo, but I wanted to share these ones more.

After an early dinner, Ewe, Anna, Anna’s mum and I went walking around the bay.

We reached a park and saw some people accidentally lose a ball in the water.

Through a bit of ingenuity and resourcefulness (and a few attempts), they retrieved the ball with little difficulty.

Here are the photos I took of the event unfolding.

I like these photos as they (partially) tell a story.
It’s unfortunate that they also show rubbish floating around in the water, as that is far more common than it has any right to be.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 72: Feeling Lazy

I’ve been sitting here, being bored for a while, with plenty to do but avoiding doing it because I’m hoping that it will all go away or my ass will set itself to meltdown and I’ll tear off into the atmosphere on my chair so fast that people will not realise that I’ve disappeared as for some reason, I’ll leave a residual image behind that will be so solid that people will think I’ve just become really good at being unmovable.

Despite being on mid-semester break, I really should be spending some of my time studying, but I’m feeling lazy.
Sadly, not surly.

Hell, I was meant to write something hours ago, but again, lazy.

I know I’ll be spending a few hours working on music later as I need to get something finished for tomorrow, although I’d much prefer to get more than just something done, so hopefully I can have everything I need to get done at this point done.

Completed would probably be a better word to use there, but I’m not going to use it because I don’t know.

I’ve even factored in going for a cycle today so I can go take photos somewhere, but that will probably be called off due to lazy.

Well, that’s more that it’s going to rain and I’d rather not get my camera wet again.

When I got it back, I found out that parts of it had rusted inside, so I’d rather not do that to my camera gain, as I enjoy using it quite a lot and not having it for the brief period I did not have it for was starting to make me a bit antsy.

Today is a lazy day where I don’t feel like doing anything and it’s making me bored, so I should do something, but that would mean effort, which would mean I wouldn’t be immersing myself in laziness, but it also means that I would actually be doing something and therefore most likely not be bored, but then I would have to use effort, although it probably takes a lot of effort to be lazy and bored, so I probably should do something instead of being lazy, so I can make the day go by faster.

Well, I should do something now and not later, for if I do not do something now, that means it’ll take longer for later to come by, although, realistically, I already know that the passage of time will move at the same rate, but it will feel as though it is taking longer for it to pass, therefore causing me to feel as though time is slowing down as I notice it pass by more.

I think I’ll read for a little while.

I want to have Finnegans Wake finished before the end of the year, but there are still a lot of pages to go before I get there.

Maybe I should just eat my entertainment unit instead.

It would be more… fulfilling.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 8:29:76

Faster once more.
I didn’t think boredom would motivate me to write so… boringly.
Or did it?
I don’t know.
