Masashi Hamauzu: Final Fantasy XIII-2 Overture

One listen for this one.

I haven’t done much, if any writing today and wanted to capture something. This describes the song well enough, but also doesn’t give much of an idea as to how it sounds and progresses.

Masashi Hamauzu’s (浜渦 正志) “Final Fantasy XIII-2 Overture” (“FINAL FANTASY XIII-2 オーバーチュア”) is from Final Fantasy XIII-2 Original Soundtrack, which, rather surprisingly, is the soundtrack for Final Fantasy XIII-2.

I hope you enjoy.

Something otherworldly fades into view, shines, shimmers and contorts. More sounds come in, like the buzzing of a current in a machine. Vocals appear briefly and add to the drone and the sounds build in their intensity and mass. It expands and a sense of some sort of darkness creeps forward. Woodwind hums low and soon the drone halts.

Strings dominate and let loose more emotion. A sense of longing flows through into a single point before a pause. Suddenly a dramatic rush comes forth. However, it is brief and disappears, leaving the otherworldly sound on its own which quickly fades out as the song ends.

About Stupidity Hole

I'm some guy that does stuff. Hoping to one day fill the internet with enough insane ramblings to impress a cannibal rat ship. I do more than I probably should. I have a page called MS Paint Masterpieces that you may be interested in checking out. I also co-run Culture Eater, an online zine for covering the arts among other things. We're on Patreon!
