In Slag’s Cradle

A photo of part of a building related to a blast furnace framed by the same bit of slag as seen in this photo.

When I took this photo I was trying to see how using the slag as framing would work. I like the result, but I want to take the shot again some time and see if I can get a better result.

There’s something that feels abandoned about this, though the area is very much not abandoned. Maybe it’s more of a “barren” feeling. I don’t know.

This is my submission into Leanne Cole‘s “Monochrome Madness” for this week.
I suggest checking out Leanne’s photography, as well as checking out what other people submit.

A lot of what people are submitting will likely end up here.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 924: Drives on Forward

Got that thumping music playing and it drives on forward and pushes the whole thing into the territory of drama that I want to push the whole thing into. Such is the way of the things and so on and so forth.

I’m sitting here and just appreciating it almost as much as I appreciate the recent burn to my hand. I don’t know why I mentioned that. I also don’t know why I linked the two together in this manner as the music, whilst highly dramatic, is far, FAR better than the burn on my hand. Still, the burn is ultimately small and insignificant and I’m not overly fussed with it other than its unpleasantness in that it has left a mark on my hand that I find distracting, but I’m sure that it will fade in time.

The music has shifted to something much less intense and slightly less dramatic and that’s fine. That’s pleasing enough as I’d like a bit of variation so long as it’s not a contrast in extremities. That is not something that I’d like toe experience right now as right now it’s all about listening and not being whipped around whilst listening. Maybe another time I will prefer to feel punished by the music, but now is not that time as the time now is the time to get on with getting on and doing the work and all that other stuff that I’m meant to do but keep on putting off for some reason.

Probably laziness.

So anyway, I guess that now that the music is carrying me along a good flow I should do the things that I’m meant to do, but right now it’s nice and relaxed, though there is a bit of a rising going on and that’s fine. That is something that I appreciate in this little tune as it suddenly dispels and goes back to being a bit jaunty, fun and peaceful. That’s fine right now. A lot of this is fine right now.

There are other things that are fine and they keep on coming and going and flowing in and out, but I sit here and write whatever this bit of writing is and then I get back into the music and float on away from duties and responsibilities, but of course I will keep one foot on the ground as soon I will have to stop doing this and do the other things. I will have to face the world of responsibility and no amount of music that I am enjoying can pull me too far away from that for extended periods of time. Unfortunately it is something that I have to grapple with, but I shall keep on grappling with it and slowly, yet surely make my way to the other side of whatever it is that I’m trying to get to on some sort of journey through the mountains and over the hills and through all the music I’m yet to hear.

More writing that was fun to write.

Good speed, but really loose and lacking.

South Bowenfels

This was taken from a lookout point; one that provided a great vantage point to get long and wide views.

There’s a fair bit of cleared land in photo, which is a shame. I feel the same about the residential development, but I feel that they both make for an aesthetically pleasing photo at the very least.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 923: A Drive

It is time to be tired, but it still is time to do other things and so I do not get to rest as of yet.

I look at the burn on my fingers and then think about the driving I did today.

So there was a set of ruins that I wanted to check out. I’ve wanted to check them out for a while now but not had the time, nor the people to come with me. However, today was that day and so we set out early.

We saw some stuff, had breakfast, talked, took photos, and drove.

There was lots of driving, though probably not that much ground to cover. However, it was a lot for me, but it’s all building up to something as they say, and they do indeed say that. However, they don’t always say that and that’s a bit of a digression at the moment. Need to focus on this and get this little bit of life out of the way so that I can then move onto other things.

So anyway, there was driving. There was driving beyond The Blue Mountains, but not too beyond. It was all within reasonable distance… I hope.

Anyway, there was driving and we saw some stuff and we kept on driving and eventually we got to where it was that I wanted to go. It was the destination of which I had desired to reach and of course I head reached it.

It was closed for renovations and apparently requires advance booking.

By that point I think we’d driven for three hours. Not continuously, but long enough to demand that we get out of the car and stretch and rest a little, which very much was needed.

The only option at that point was to head back on home, but not without a few more stops along the way. Those too were worth it to some extent, but the last one most of all.

It was a lot of driving and certainly something that I’d be willing to do once more. Maybe not right now as right now it is time for me to relax and be tired and all of that other stuff. However, perhaps in the future when I am less tired as it ended up totaling twelve hours of being out. I was hoping for between eight and ten. Admittedly twelve is not that much, but it was enough for me to feel tired right now, but such is the way of things and I will survive and all of that.

I thought that this would be a bit of a longer story, but it wasn’t, so… yeah. Such is the way of things I guess.

Ultimately nothing major happened. I drove for a while to a place only to have to turn back around due to it being closed. These things happen and it could have been much, much worse.

Well, there is always next time; hopefully with a bit more preparation.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 06:27:30

There are quite a few ways in which I could have written this that would’ve made it seem a lot less like a brief summary.

Grose Valley

And its surrounds.

I feel as though this photo helps to impose a sense of massiveness through distance.

I also feel that it carries a sense of quiet and power.

Not sure if the photo came through too dark, but I do like that the clouds’ shadows are apparent due to how they add a little bit more to the photo and help to prevent it from feeling flat.

I hope you enjoy.

Old Walls

Walls part of ruins associated with a blast furnace.
Now available for public viewing; something of which I have conflicted views on, but ultimately lean toward it being a positive thing as it gives more of a chance to think about history (both good and bad) and architecture through the potential to develop interest in abandoned places.

When I took this photo I was trying to capture the walls in a certain way. I feel as though I almost got there so I might try and retake this particular scene again sometime soon.

This is my submission into the one hundred-and-forty-first Lens-Artists Photo Challenge.

The theme for this one is “Geometry“.

I feel this one fits mostly due to the angularity brought on due to how I took this photo.

The challenge is hosted by four people and cycles weekly:

Week 1 – Patti

Week 2 – Ann-Christine aka Leya

Week 3 – Amy

Week 4 – Tina

This week’s challenge is curated by Patti. Next week Leya is curating, with the theme for hers being “You  Pick It”.

The challenges are pretty fun and there’s a lot of room for interpretation that doesn’t get in the way of enjoyment. If you’re into photography, then I suggest participating, or at the least checking out what other people are submitting.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 922: Reset the Timer

So I started writing this thing and midway through I accidentally reset the timer and as you can imagine, I am rather miffed about the whole thing.

This is a rather annoying situation. It is not as though what I had written was worth reading, but I had written it and it was mine to throw out onto The Internet, but here we are. Instead of trying to rewrite that, I’m just going to write about how angry I am about the situation as that seems like a much more productive endeavour to me; at least, at this stage in the day.

I had written what I had written and now I am here and no longer there,. The words could be recovered, but that isn’t going to happen. Maybe other things will happen, but not that. I don’t feel like it and I am currently at the whimsy of what I do and do not feel like, though that isn’t too much different from usual, so… yeah.

Anyway, I am angry. I am furious. Some might even say that I feel disgruntled. These could all be true. However, they may also all be false. Who knows, really? I do know, but I am not revealing my secrets. That i0s not happening today. Normally it would happen, but today it is not happening. There are other things that need to be revealed, like how angry I just so happen to be. I am very angry and very angry is how I feel. I feel so angry that perhaps there will be the cutting of the trees with my steely gaze and perhaps that tree cutting will lead to escapades due to the crimes against nature.

There are other things that I might do with this anger, but they are to be discussed at another time at another place and somehow with the sense of reflection within the winds under my coattails.

Perhaps I shall dream in anger and find some sore of release through the process of doing that, though perhaps that is not something I should be worrying about at all. Instead perhaps I should be focusing on other thigs and let them take me to a state of dreaming where I am drifting and flowing down a river of the most relaxed variety. That could be nice. It could be fin. It might even prove fruitful in my quest to find more things of which I can explore and discover and reveal to myself, hopefully to gain a better understanding of all of that. However, that is not very angry and therefore I shall not worry about that for the time being.

My anger is yet to abate and therefore my thirst for vengeance is yet to be quelled. There shall come a time in which this does occur, but perhaps at the present moment that time is not now. Perhaps that will happen at another time and at another place, but it will not happen right now.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 05:19:26

From the “ashes” of what I wrote, this came forward.
Silly, fun stuff to write.

Wind Erosion

This is part of a cave that was eroded by wind, or at least that is what I’ve surmised from what I’ve read.

I like how the layers are revealed as you get a sense of different periods of time here. Some layers are clearer than others, but from what I can see and understand, they’re there.

I also like how those layers seems to move and flow. It’s almost like watching water.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 921: Rather Tired

The sludgy mire of fatigue is a strong one and it is mine to be able to try and escape from, but of course I probably won’t, so therefore there will be no consequence other than the bitter complaining that will escape from me on the odd occasion. I am yet to deem when it will be worthy to complain, but that will come around later.

I am tired and I am really feeling it, and today is not the day that I want to be feeling tired, for there are things of which need to be tackled and I am not feeling as though I am up to the task, but up to the task I must be and soldier on I must do, for there is little else to be done, so therefore the doing of the things is what I will be doing today. I will do them sluggishly and I will do them with much error and no respite. Respite can come later, and hopefully will come later, for I very much need a bit of sleep right now, but of course that is not something I should be worrying about right ow. What I should be worrying about is doing the things and not doing the writing for there is no need for me to write right now, though there is as I am a creature of routine and the routine is what I am embracing right now.

However, instead of embracing routine, what I should be doing is… I don’t know where I am going with this, so perhaps I should drop the thread and try to work something else out in order to take this into new and exciting directions of which are quite unheard of and unseen and all of that other stuff.

Beyond all of that, I think that perhaps today is a sunny day, as that is what I can see. I also think that perhaps there will be some sort of rest where I will be able to rest and once I am resting I can then take advantage of the fact that I would be resting and then rest some more. There will be more rest and not less and I will go from there.

With all of that out of the way I must think about my next steps and those involve the talking about the things of which there is no point in talking about as I like illustrating the point when there is none. This is all of a waste of time and I am fine with that, but at the same time if I could somehow turn all of this around and make it all better I’d probably take that option instead of writing whatever this has turned out to be, so… yeah.

I guess the point is related to being tired and rambling, but I’m sure that, given enough time, I’ll make sure it is clear and perhaps too overtly obvious, I think.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 04:58:04

This is highly lacking.
I think there’s a good flow in parts; at the same time, I think a lot of this is really rough and without substance.

Mount Hay

Another day of being quite tired, so no lengthy rambling today.

Here is a somewhat-moody photo of Mount Hay.

I find its shape to be quite interesting as it rises up and strikes out quite well, but almost appears as though it fits a smooth curve in the landscape.

The clouds (along with the light level) help to give a dramatic feel to the image, as well as make the mountain stand out a bit more, somehow.

I hope you enjoy.
