Five-Hundred Word Challenge 847: Little Sleep Last Night

At the moment I’m quite tired and so this feels a little more like a victory lap of sorts as it has been a busy, yet rather slow day.

You see, I had very little sleep last night and somehow pushed on through and am now here, sitting down and writing this in order to communicate this to you, the reader who just so happens to be reading whatever this bit of writing is and is on, which at the moment is probably a little more than a series of words organised to form sentences in order to get across meaning and intent of things that make some sort of sense so that you can understand them, or something.

But anyway, I’ve been awake for a while and it has been a long day, but it also has been a somewhat-relaxing, yet somewhat-busy day and that is okay. Got stuff done. Cleaned up a few things. All that kind of stuff. Lots of photos processed. Not enough writing. Now writing and perhaps it is a little too late in the evening, but that is what I’m doing and soon I will find myself resting and some more stuff and so on and so forth.

So it is the evening and I’m soon to be in bed which is something that I just mentioned but I felt the need to mention it again and, to be honest, I don;t know why. I think I’m running on close to empty and really should just stop here and go straight to bed and not worry about anything else for the rest of the evening. Of course that is not what is going to happen, but perhaps sometimes someone can dream and hope for the best. If they do not, then at least they can hope and dream and some other things that they can do so that they do the things that they do and get on with doing some other things and eventuality get to some other stage of something that will lead to some sort of unknown glory as they knew not was within their ultimate grasp, so they hold it aloft and aloft it reigns but not supreme; merely content, and that is alright as being content is something an alright thing to be, even if you might feel uncomfortable with the idea. It is certainly good to be uncomfortable from time to time, but need to balance it with other things so that you live some sort of balanced life, or something.

Yeah. I think I need to get to sleep. I won’t just yet – there are other things I am going to do – but I think that it needs to happen sooner rather than later. I think I may be fading out faster than I had anticipated and so the sleep will come soon and then I will sleep and that will be the end of that chapter. A new one will begin with waking up tomorrow morning.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 06:14:10

Unsurprisingly, the lack of sleep begat rambling.

A Poem About Pushing an Object

This is a subpar metaphor for something I’m doing at the moment.
That said, I like the imagery and the intent.

I hope you enjoy.

I keep on trying
To move an object
That will not budge

It seems foolish
And perhaps it is
From certain views

Despite the energy
I’m expending
I’ll keep trying

If it moves
Ever so slightly
I’ll keep pushing

I can rest
Once it has moved
Far from here

More Courtney Taylor-Taylor

Another photo of Courtney Taylor-Taylor from when The Dandy Warhols last played in Sydney.

I feel as though Courtney Taylor-Taylor looks introspective in this photo, though I can’t remember the context of what he was doing here and I don’t know his thoughts, so admittedly I could be reading this scene entirely wrong.

Here are some other photos of The Dandy Warhols performing at The Enmore Theatre.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 846: On The Hives

Well, that is the way that the things go and now I am energised, which means I have to explain the event in question.

You see, what I was doing was listening to The Hives and whilst I was listening to The Hives I was experiencing the act of listening to The Hives. They’re such a rad band that will strike you down from your slow, relaxed times of losing interest in the idea of rock ‘n’ roll.

They’re one of the best bands around at the moment and they’re electrifying. They rock out and groove out and just perform their great big hearts out and will make sure that you’re getting a good show so that you get a good show. That said, they don’t even need to make sure; they just do it. If you walk away from a The Hives show and you didn’t feel it, then you saw the wrong band and were not at a The Hives show. Shame on you.

The Hives don’t do much in the way of pretension. Their music is stripped down and simple and straightforward, but it punches through with raw magnetic prowess and moves that will make you realise that other bands pale in comparison. There are no others like them and they are their own.

You go to see The Hives to see a great band and walk out realising you haven’t experienced music live before. It was all just an idea of what live music should be beforehand; a mere suggestion that doesn’t even truly articulate the concept of music being live other than in the rudimentary conceptual forms.

The Hives will blow up your speakers whilst you’re not even using them, challenging you to the throw down of meeting them halfway and getting all up in it. Whilst they reign supreme and make sure that you’re wrapped up in their beautiful grasp, they’ll keep drawing you in until you lose yourself to the show and all of its wonders.

Once they’re done rocking your face off and being the vampire to your previous lack of wonder, The Hives will end up destroying the venue they just played in a vivid display of energy and rocking due to how good they just happen to be. You’ll be completely satisfied and yet you’ll be left wanting more; much more. They’re a powerful addiction and the only cure is to get down and dance to them some more.

So yeah. I’m full of energy and I’ve been listening to The Hives this morning and now I need to get on with doing other things, but maybe I’ll listen to The Hives some more. They’ve a few albums and I feel like listening to some rocking out some more.

One of the few bands that can back up their words and then some, The Hives are and that’s part of what makes them great. Definitely worth seeing if you ever get the chance, so make sure you get the chance.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 07:39:18

I was trying to be boisterous and hammy. Not sure if it worked, but I do recommend listening to The Hives. They’re a solid band that knows what they are and put a lot into what they do.

One Thousand Word Challenge 98: Good Time to Complain

It is hot and it is warm and that is the way that this evening will be.

Once more I am writing late into the evening, but this time I might find the energy to not go too late and will indeed find a stopping point and stop there. It needs to be done, so this is only going to be part one of one of writing at this particular hour as I want to read tonight. I don’t want to go on too late and then have to crash and then have no time to relax and unwind, so… yeah.

Of course I have no idea as to what it is that I am going to write as it is late in the evening and I put things off for too long and it already is time for me to relax. My typing is all over the place and I just kind of want to sleep as I’ve been awake too long after a night of an alright sleep after two nights of not enough sleep, but of course I shall keep on beavering away as that is what I do and it isn’t the best thing to do all of the time, but only some of the time, but of course I just keep on going as that is what I do as for some reason I think that is a good idea, or something.

So anyway, it is getting a little cooler but it isn’t getting cool enough which is enough for me to complain aimlessly for a little while, so here goes:

How does this equate to cooling? Sure, it is cooler than it was a few hours ago, but it’s not cool enough! This is like offering a drop of water to help alleviate the harsh heat of the burning sun! What kind of crap is this? I wanted cool weather. This is still mildly infuriating weather!

Well, that is all I have, so now that I have said that, I guess I need to do the thing where I go on rambling about other stuff for a while so as to be able to say that I wrote about things and then I can go to sleep, feeling accomplished even though I achieved very little, but that is what I do and doing it now is what I will do as there are other things in which I could do but they need to wait so I can get this done so I can get them done so I can go back to complaining about things in a tedious, rambling manner that goes nowhere and provides nothing of note. Even though I have stated otherwise, that is what I want to do for the evening so in order to do so, I need to finish this off in some manner that implies excitement and amazing action of an amazing nature in a variable variety.

Now pulling off the ending is going to be the most difficult part of this bit of writing. I need to plan it all out carefully, but to be honest I don’t think I have enough time in order to do so, so I need to find another way to go about the whole thing, as if I do not then it is all up in the air really. That might be a bit of a problem, but of course it is one that I can address now. I could address it later, but now is the time to address the problem. Once the problem is addressed, then perhaps I can look at writing the ending in a climactic way.

This is all rather problematic however. It being warm and hot does not help and that is making me feel angry and all that other stuff that I don’t want to feel right now. It doesn’t help that I am tired as now I am more grouchy than if I was not tired. I don’t want to be grouchy, but the problem is that I am more often grouchy than I am not and that makes me angry! That’s the problem with all of these things; they’re all making me grouchy and it’s all a feedback loop and now I am going to indiscriminately shake my fist at things so that they know that I am angry. I am going to yell at the cloud and no one can stop me; otherwise they get a fist shaking.

However, the fist shaking will come at a later date at a later time as it is currently not ready to be posted and therefore I need to prepare that too. There are probably too many things that I need to prepare and of course this causes many other issues so I am a person with many issues on their plate and so I need to clear the plate but of course there is not enough time to do so so perhaps I will just share the load and then do the dishes and relax. Complaining can always happen in the morning. That is a good time to complain, but then again any times is a good time to complain, depending on how much you stretch the dentition of “good time”. I’m not going to stretch it too much as I need to be careful with these things, but… actually, I will stretch it as much as I want as I want to complain about things and right now is as good as any other time! After getting some sleep, of course.

I guess with all of that being said, I should probably go rest so I can complain some more in the morning, even though by then it might be too late and the moment of complaining may have passed. However, that is a risk that I need to take, but right now it is rather warm and hot and it is bothering me, so perhaps I will complain about that now.

The time it took to write one thousand words: 09:52:13

Another rather fast writing. At times it felt as though I was going slow, but that may have to do with being tired more than some sort of improvement in writing speed.

Anyway, this is all sorts of silly and that is something that I like about this writing.

A Poem About Warm Weather

I think I was trying to express some sort of oddness to the late transition into summer.
We’ve had a few warm days so far, but there has been quite a bit of rain and pants have been comfortable apparel. Whilst not unwelcome, this feels rather odd.

Anyway, this is a rather ho hum poem.

I hope you enjoy.

A dry warmth surrounds
Leaving little room for cool
That can only be found
In the shadows avoiding the sun

This heat is normally familiar
Though this time it is shy
It has been absent
Rain and cool has filled the void

Perhaps it will now assert itself
As the main grip
On the coming months
Though it remains to be seen

Dark Point Aboriginal Place

I am not sure as to why this headland is called Dark Point Aboriginal Place.

From what little I’ve read, this is a culturally significant location for The Worimi people.
I should learn more about the location and, considering I plan on visiting it again sooner rather than later, will do more learning.

I think it is important to better understand the significance of locations to Indigenous peoples so as to better show respect and appreciation for both them and the landscape.

So here’s an image of Dark Point Aboriginal Place as seen from the Hawks Nest Dunes. I like how vegetated the headland is, as well as the little stretch of vegetation that appears to be connected to the headland. It makes for a nice contrast against the dune and shows the spread of vegetation nicely.

The headland doesn’t feel lonely or isolated; rather it feels quite accessible and belonging without losing its image.

I also like that the clouds add a slightly dramatic feel to the image without taking away from the scene.

Here are some other photos featuring Hawks Nest Dunes.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 845: Known as “Today”

Ring out does the sound of some instrument and into the ears of the listener which just so happens to be me at this particular moment in time and location in space. It’s a sound of something pleasurable (or at least, something I consider to sound pleasurable) and it is a nice way to beckon the rest of the day in. However, it is wasted if I do nothing with the rest of the time I have for the day. Maybe relaxing is on the menu, but there are other options and it is up to me to make sure that I indulge myself in what options I have, unless I feel like eating the same thing over and over, of course.

So from here it leads to there and this is just the warming up and the getting ready for the rest of the day that lies ahead. There will be the things of needing doing and there will be the doing of the things needing and so on and so forth. Perhaps there will even be the consumption of liquids that help complete the process of sustenance so as I can remain to some level of sustained that allows me to keep on functioning and moving toward whatever goal is set to reach for  the day that happens to fall on today, which is known as the day “today”.

The sound of some instrument ended before and now there is some other sound, or more of a collection of sounds and it’s all kind of warm and pleasant and easy on the ears and I sit here and still try to work out what it is that I shall be engaging in today, but I do know that at the very least there shall be some engagement and acting out and doing things and getting things done and looking one way and looking the other way and multiple breaths and embracing the sounds of which I let myself listen to and all of that other stuff and so on and so forth and that is how it all goes, but there will be other things as well as this is not just one linear day despite it running in one linear direction… as far as I am aware.

What I perceive as one linear direction may be some sort of obfuscation on my own part and perhaps the day runs in multiple different directions, but it of course depends on what one considers as a direction for the day to run in, but then again maybe there also is some sort of scientific reasoning and some other stuff and all that other stuff, so perhaps my simplistic view is the only view, but maybe there is more and I’m not thinking widely enough, but of course that has little to do with right now, though maybe it doesn’t have little to do with right now, but what I’m getting at is that I’ll think about it another time.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 05:28:71

Writing this was a smoother experience than usual. Most of it came forward without pausing and I’m rather happy about that. Probably helps that there’s little pressure for me to write at the moment and I’m not worried about commencing work or getting to sleep.

Not a great read, however.

Baroness: The Sweetest Curse

For this one I went more for describing what was happening with the music.

Before starting this I was looking to do something that wasn’t one thing the whole way through. “The Sweetest Curse” does shift a bit, but (other than the closing seconds) it remains wholly familiar to itself in each of its sections.

I’d hoped to describe more of the imagery or mood (or both) coming forward, but that didn’t happen and so this ended up being more about what was happening on the surface.

Baroness’ “The Sweetest Curse” is from Blue Record.

I hope you enjoy.

A sludgy slide in and some rhythmic “chugging” with some spikes. Mean and aggressive, but also groovy. Soon the drums, bass and a second guitar punch right in. Some chugging harmonies with a slightly “up” sound on some of those “whirling” bits. The percussion plays something tight and a little groovy and the bass stays anchored and low.

The vocals come in, all low, shouted stuff and whilst aggressive, perhaps not as forceful as the music. Kind of. Shouts, shouts and some that fade in from nowhere, less continuous but sharper.

The moment the vocals stop and suddenly the band rock out more, preparing to rise and become more “epic”. Another quick few words, low and gravelly, then the song lightens up a little and brings in more melody. A sort of vocal interplay happens, a little different from the earlier one and the band are building to some sort of climax. The music is lighter, yet just as heavy and much groovier. The melody is less aggressive, there’s a loose “solo”, then it drops out and the riffs come back. Drums crash in and the climax arrives.

The band chug along, just driving forward and the vocals come back in and it’s all drive it forward, drive it home, keep it feeling climactic like some sort of grand release and just keep on driving.

Its a riff jammed on and then closed in the largest way they can make it without going too overboard. Loud percussive strikes just help to hammer the whole thing.

However, rather than end on that, clean guitar sounds quickly weave around themselves, creating a “meditative” sense. It’s kind of jarring, but is not an entirely unwelcome thing for the song’s end.

Silhouette Vocals

Here’s another photo of Alchemy’s vocalist (here is one I shared in October).

I really like how the light draws attention to the vocalist’s form at this particular angle. Their body almost feels continuous.

I also like how even in silhouette you get a good idea of how much is going into the vocal performance.

I hope you enjoy.
