Five-Hundred Word Challenge 784: More Sleep Than Less Sleep

I slept last night. I slept more than I had during the prior few nights, and yet I still feel tired. Totally unfair. I don’t understand this at all. Should I not be back to maximum percent? I don’t get this. How does sleep even work if it will not instantly dispel all of the fatigue I am currently having to endure in order to get through my day?

Anyway, work starts soon though I imagine that already is evident based on the writing of this, or something. I don’t know. I do know that music is playing and I am enjoying that music. Not going to enjoy work, but of course will make the most of work in whatever way I can. Hopefully I can. If I cannot, then that is unfortunate, but such is the way of things. I’m sure that there will be the event that is the making the most of the day in the most making way.

So anyway, I’m here, rested yet still tired and I am typing to you. This is being beamed to you via the power of some sort of power. That’s all I have for this morning. Probably should’ve thought of something before I engaged in the art of writing. Oh well. Such is the way of things.

I do know that at least I am doing something and making the most of my time right now, but I would much rather not be working so I could go for a walk, for it is a little too warm and stuffy in here and I am much need of a change of scenery. If I had the opportunity to go outside and do a bit of exploring, then that would constitute a change of scenery, though only in relation to the inside of the room in which I happen to be in at the present moment. The outside area is an area of which I have also been and plenty of the surrounding area is familiar to me, though that does not mean it is any less enjoyable. Perhaps it is the unfamiliar of which I crave and I’m, sure that I can get a handle on that so long as I keep on trying to go outside and do things that will allow me to go further and farther from home.

Perhaps I will come across some sort of cave system that I will check out, but only for a very short distance as I am not a fan of being in caves. That will allow enough exploration for one day. Then I will make my way home. Once I have made my way home I will find myself at home and able to rest. That will be a day of adventure that I will have engaged in and adventure is what I desire, but work starts soon so I should cover that, really.

Anyway, I’ve said what I think I wanted to say so this text ends here.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 04:50:51

I was going to spend the whole thing complaining about feeling tired, but evidently I veered away pretty quickly.

This is a silly bit of writing. All there is to say about it, I think; at least for now.

Francesco Paoli and a Microphone

Another shot of this musician, but this time just before he is about to eat is microphone.
Now that I think about it, if that were indeed the case, then this image would show a rather awkward way of engaging in the art of consumption.

I’m pretty sure Francesco Paoli was letting out a rather strong scream at the time. If not, then at least the image captures what I feel is a great moment.

There’s a sense of intensity and focus that comes through quite well, I think. This looks like someone doing what they can to give as strong a performance as possible, because that was what was happening.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 783: Different Light

Bit of a different light is shining on through into the room in which I just so happen to be in at the present moment. It’s the light of a sun obscured by clouds ready to spill themselves all over the area in which I happen to inhabit, as well as the ones that surround the area in which I happen to inhabit.

Another night of little sleep, but it seems like it is getting better. I don’t really know. I feel sore and tired. That is what I know right now. However, as I am still trundling along, I can only guess that I’m probably alright. Going to try and get to bed early tonight. Try and do very little between now and then. Try and cool down a little. Try and do a few things that will help me relax. Don’t know if anything will, but who knows what will happen? Hopefully I can hazard a few guesses.

Working whilst this tired is not fun, of course, but many of the customers today seemed to be an extra kind of shitty; Speaking of which, I have some advice that may lead into a rant, though I’d rather not rant at the moment, but if I do, then, well… yeah.

Don’t casually mention that you are dying to try and get someone in customer service to do something that we are not meant to do, especially when you’ve admitted that you don’t want to go with the current available options. Don’t do that. It’s utterly reprehensible. My heart goes out to you, but that doesn’t mean I’m fine with you trying use it to try and get me into doing something you want done because you don’t want to do something that covers the same thing that we are not meant to do at the current moment.

Now that that small rant is aside, I can go back to trying to relax and thinking of other things. Don’t know as to how successful I’ll be. I think I’ve said that already. It’s getting a little darker in here, but outside it seems like the levels of light are yet to change. Perhaps it is a trick of the contrasting light. Don’t know if that is a thing or not, but I think it might just be. Probably some form of perception based on relation. Either that or something else, or nothing at all.

I think that now that all of that has been said I should probably go and eat something. Soon the consumption of delectable foods shall commence. Then after that it shall be the resting of the eyes, though of course with a little bit of space between the two events. The evening shall be one of taking things easy, though perhaps they will choose to not take me easy and instead I will have a bit of a fight on my hands. If that does indeed happen, well, I’m somehow going to drift off to sleep.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 09:29:77

I partially feel bad for mentioning what a particular customer did, but at the same time I feel as though that kind of stuff needs to be mentioned.

The rest of this is how I usually feel about what I write. It’s merely okay. Some flowing stuff mixed in with a lot of roughness.

One Thousand Word Challenge 71: A Long Silence

It was a dark night, as nights often are. However, even in the urban expanse of the city it felt especially inky. Somewhere on the curb they were sitting, looking up at the night sky, trying to work out where it all went wrong and where they were to go from there.

A long silence stretched out and grew farther than they could know, but of course they still somehow knew. That was it. The joyous occasion had ended and it had ended not the way that they had expected. There was a lot to think about and there was plenty of time to think.

Perhaps if events had unfolded any differently, they would now not find themselves in their particular little situation, though of course, much like the silence and the night, it felt like so much more than something just little.

Like so many things, what had happened could not be returned upon. Violence and defence, though no blood spilled and no broken bones. Shared words, truths, all that kind of stuff. The shattering of friendships, the breaking of relationships. This was meant to be a celebration, but instead it felt more like the sudden and harsh breaking of bonds.

They were there, sitting on the curb, the two of them, staring up into space, trying to stare beyond the stars and make sense of everything. It all happened so fast and so much of it cut deep. How much had they themselves ignored, and how much of their friends had also ignored? Was there really anything ignored and pushed aside for far too long, or was it all about the picking of sides? The reshaping of allegiances? Even so, it seemed that all of that would only be temporary as the fractures well and truly formed deep crevasses within years of what were believed to be strong bonds. It was only a matter of time before the whole thing truly and entirely shattered, almost as though anything after the night was just routine post-script.

They sat there a long time. One of them decided that it was no longer productive to try and stare into the night and instead locked their fingers together, rested their chin against them, gently pressed their thumbs against their jaw, and looked down.

It had rained earlier, and so what light was obvious to them seemed to gain a reflective harshness on the road. It was a quiet night where they were, though then again that was the expected norm. Seldom it was that their particular area saw great amounts of traffic. A few blocks away it was a different story, for they were near enough to the city, but somehow where they were it was quiet. Along with the shared silence and everything was almost deafening.

The other closed their eyes, trying to imagine something beyond what was visible in the hopes that it would allow them to collate their thoughts into some sort of sensible order. They were looking for some sort of meaning, but at least at that point, other than the obvious, it all seemed so meaningless.

They had gone over to the gathering in order to celebrate their friendships with others. It was just going to be a small party just because; there was no reason required beyond something small, yet important to all of them. Everyone seemed happy, though in retrospect an air of tension lingered, only there to bear witness to the oncoming spectacle. A few misplaced words, almost as though a slip of the tongue shortly followed by the cutting of the tension with a sudden increase of volume and aggression. All was unleashed.

No one seemed to want to back away and some tried to resolve, but all became embroiled in shrieking, gnashing their teeth and howling. As much as the friendships had lasted as long and steadily as they had, it only took a few minutes to tear it all down.

And so, looking to extricate themselves from the situation, in the aftermath of it all two left without uttering a word, for as far as they were concerned, enough had been said. Rather than airing grievances, foundations were messily and easily dismantled, revealing that perhaps they never were as solid as they seemed.

The two walked for a little while, saying nothing, for there was nothing to say about such an overwhelming thing. Once far enough from the scene they sat on the curb and just wondered and tried to make sense of it all, though what was there to make sense of? Clearly there was a lot that had gone unsaid for a long time, though beyond that and what the resultant effect of speaking was, it all seemed unclear. It was perhaps a little too early to think about all of this, though at the same time they had to. So much lived with a continuous group and suddenly it was too shattered for something to which return was possible.

Done looking at the small amount of gutter and road in their view, they raised their head and put their hands down so as to help themselves get onto their feet. The other opened their eyes and looked over. The silence remained, and though it was tense, it was not the tension of some sort of further shattering between the two, though more the tension of working to comprehend what had happened.

And they looked at each other as the darkness of the night continued to hold its grip on the area, making it seem as though anything near a lamppost was its own pocket of reality separate from the next.

The one standing shed a few tears, as did the one sitting. They nodded at each other and the one standing walked off into the darkness. The one still sitting let their tears roll down their face and fall onto the curb as they stared into the night, hoping to find something to make sense of it all.

The time it took to write one thousand words: 26:00:01

So most of this was written pretty quickly, but the longer it went the more I slowed down.
Not sure how I feel about what I’ve written here. I like the imagery and I think there’s a decent progression, but I feel there’s repetition in a few too many places.

As a side note, this started from wanting to capture a certain sense of feeling and imagery I was getting from a part of song I was listening to, which was the last eleven minutes of Nadja’s “Thaumogenesis”, the title track and sole song from Thaumogenesis. It was somewhere in the second paragraph where the writing started to veer away from that, however.

Now that I think about it, the writing might’ve started veering in the first paragraph. Not sure.

Francesco Paoli

Here’s a photo of one of the members of Fleshgod Apocalypse taken when they placed at The Bald Faced Stag last year.

I like this photo as it doesn’t feel like a musician performing. It feels like someone being passionate and perhaps engaging in the art of cheering, but I think that due to how it the show is framed it doesn’t quite feel like it was taken at a gig.

I do think the costuming works well with the light. Fleshgod Apocalypse dress in a (kind of) theatrical way that, combined with facial paint, (kind of) gives this appearance of fancy decay, for lack of better phrasing at the current moment. It’s a rather dramatic look suitable for the dramatic music this band creates. Whilst not entirely visible here, I think that at least part of what I’m trying to communicate regarding the lighting and costuming comes forward.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 782: Definitely Need More Sleep

Another night short on sleep, but at least it was a little more than the prior night. Could be worse. Am awake, am doing stuff. Am now getting things out of the way, and a little earlier than in the past few weeks. Today is going to be a day. Things will get done. There will be productivity. Somehow I will survive work.

It is raining outside, though not as much as about thirty minutes earlier. That’s fine. Someone is mowing their lawn. That is also fine. I’m fighting the fatigue and trying to push through it all. Should probably go back to bed, but this is fine. Work isn’t too far away. It’s only about four hours away. I can make it. I can get to the end of the day. I can survive this whole thing.

Need to put some clothes away. Need to remain grounded somehow. Will get through it all. I’m telling myself this as I think I can. It could be much worse. It always could be much worse. Could also be better, but right now the situation I’m in is that I’m tired and I’m going to get through it. Don’t really have anything else to say.

I guess that if I take the last few writings into consideration, then perhaps I’m creating some sort of saga of fatigue-induced banality. Being tired is the theme and getting more sleep is the dream. It is the hope. It is what I strive for. What will I learn about myself during this whole journey? I do not know as the journey is yet to be completed, though perhaps it is and all of this writing is the aftermath.

Perhaps there is no journey and there is no link and what all of this is a series of strong coincidences that imply a link, though that link most certainly is an implication and not anything more. It is possible, though it is also not possible. There are many possibilities and these are merely two of what could be many, many more than I can even think of trying to think of at the present moment. Such is thinking in a state where you’re not thinking at your most best, or something.

Perhaps this also is the middle of the saga. That too is possible. There could be quite a bit more to come along and I just cannot see that at the present moment. If that is indeed the case, then there is the possibility that there will be great adventuring also. There will be a journey of the most journey-like quality, unless there isn’t, in which case there isn’t, but that still is fine. What matters most now is that I see this through sot hat I can see where it takes me, if it does indeed take me anywhere at all.

I don’t know what will come next, but the prospect of discovery excites me, so I guess I better start getting on with it.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 06:02:62

More sleep-deprived writing. Kind of starts off grounded and becomes a bit floating toward the end. Not exactly great writing but parts of it flow really well.

On a side note, the thing I had to get up early for did not eventuate and then there was no getting back to sleep. Oh well.

From a Tree a Cloud Rises

Featuring the same cirrus from this photo, though not of the same part.

Not quite sure what I was going for when I took this, but I do like the result.

I think the colour came through quite well. I like how it gives a sense of vibrancy coming from the tree, which has its own strong hues, though not nearly as visible due to how I took the photo and it also getting darker at the time the photo was taken.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 781: Need More Sleep

There’s something quite bland about being quite tired due to a lack of sleep. Perhaps “bland” is not the right word to use in that particular context, but I am quite tired due to a lack of sleep.

I woke up quite early. Somewhere around fifteen minutes past one in the morning. Had to get up at half past five. Ended up falling asleep for about thirty, maybe forty minutes. Woke up again about thirty minutes before the alarm went off.

Got up, got ready, headed on out. Met up with a friend. Went for a lengthy walk from around Haymarket to just past Luna Park. It was almost sixteen kilometres. It was a good walk.

Had food, came home, have been somewhat-unable to do things. Slow day after a packed morning. Feeling rather tired right now, but not as though I need sleep, though I do and I’m sure that shortly after I lie down I will pass out and have a sleep more sound than the one I had last night. Well, that’s what I hope anyway.

So the walk was good. I think I’ve already said that. There were things seen and discussions about stuff had. You could say that there was life being lived, but that of course all depends on how you want to define the act of two people going on a lengthy walk whilst talking about things.

The consumption of the breakfast after the walk was also something I’d consider to be good. It was nice and all of that other stuff that lets you know that it was nice.

The bus trip back home? That was okay. Could’ve been better. Could’ve been worse. It was somewhere in the middle and I’m fine with that, if I am to be as competently honest as I can completely be. Much shorter than I expected, however. That was a surprise which lead to feelings of slight pleasantness as it mean that I would have less time to wait to get home. Small things, but things nonetheless.

So anyway, I’m here now and as I am writing this I am feeling the fatigue which tells me that I really should lie down sooner rather than later. I need to sleep. I don’t want to sleep at my desk. Don’t want to have another night where my thoughts keep moving in some odd directions. Just want to get as much sleep in as I can before I need to wake up. It’s another early start tomorrow, but for different reasons that aren’t confirmed as of yet. Still need to get up early just in case. I’m probably going to be quite annoyed if I get up and nothing is confirmed, but sometimes that is the way things go.

On the plus side, I’m sure that I will be able to get back to sleep if nothing happens and my being awake is no longer required… I hope. If not, there will be more complaining about being tired.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 07:40:47

This felt like it took a really long time to write.
Certainly not my worst writing, but it could be much better.

Barbed Wire Lawsuit Dream

I was thinking about barbed wire and how it used to be called cloth wire as it could rip your clothes.

Then there was a person who was being sued. He was being sued for cutting someone’s bared wire and going onto their property. However, he was not the culprit. As he was not the culprit he counter-sued to get his legal costs covered.

This person’s alibi was that he was in a small supermarket (I think a greengrocer) buying a 14kg bag of shredded cheese.

Then I woke up.

Into the Microphone

A close-up of Even’s guitarist as he sings.

The same person as in this shot.

Before uploading here I ended up cropping this shot a fair bit due to how much of the microphone stand was in the shot whilst out of focus as it was heavily distracting. Should’ve used a smaller aperture, but I didn’t, so at least I can learn from the mistake.

Anyway, this shot feels moody to me. Moody and passionate.

There’s enough lack of visibility to allow for the mind to fill in the blanks, which is something I like.

This photo was taken for Culture Eater. You can find a review of The Dandy Warhols’ performance here and the corresponding gallery here. Please go check them out, as well as the other stuff that our contributors are contributing.

This is my submission into Leanne Cole‘s “Monochrome Madness” for this week.
I suggest checking out Leanne’s photography, as well as checking out what other people submit.

A lot of what people are submitting will likely end up here.
