Five-Hundred Word Challenge 780: Stop Saying

To be active is a most rewarding thing as to be active is the way that you get to be active.

Some people do not get to be active. Some people do. some people choose and some people do not. That is the way of things. That is what I am claiming is the way of things. I don’t actually know if it is indeed the way of things, but that is what I am claiming and I refuse to back down until I back down. Who knows when that will be? Certainly not me.

So anyway, I’m here and I’m doing the writing thing and soon there will be the processing of the photos as those have piled up a little more than I had hoped, but sometimes that is the way things happen. Right now the being lazy has helped exacerbate that problem, but hopefully the act of not being lazy will help to diminish it. Such is the way that things go on the odd occasion. I know I’ve said that before and I won’t stop saying it. I don’t know why. Perhaps it creates some sort of ironic juxtaposition between the tenuous filament of terse discourse and self-critical awareness.

So anyway, I’m doing the writing thing. I guess you can see that. I’ll try to stop saying at least that line. Help clear up a bit of space and all that. Leave some room for some sort of content, though this is all empty space at the end of the day. It is an endless canvass of words that does not loop upon itself. It just keeps on going and I don’t know where it will end, assuming it will end at all. I need to stop doing that, or perhaps continue. I’m not really sure right now. I’m just conjuring words.

Speaking of conjuration, I think that I need to move on and toward some other subject. Maybe I should discuss marine life from this point onward. Don’t really know, but perhaps I will give it a go. Don’t know what will happen, but there is always hope that there will be some sort of success.

So there is this great body of water that some people refer to as a large body of water. It is on the planet that we refer to as the planet upon which we, as humans, predominantly reside. On this planet there is water and there is a fair bit of it. There is more than a small amount. Inside the water there are organisms that exist. They are often not humans and that is fine as these creatures are more adapt at living in an area immersed within a liquid body than they are immersed in an airy body. Such is the way of things.

Some of these creatures get air in the water and some don’t. That is also part o f how things go.

That covers some things. Tune in next time for (maybe) some more.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 05:31:06

This is rather messy and repetitive in places. I don’t think there’s enough focus.
The writing about the ocean makes me think that I should write more about marine stuff, especially considering my undergrad degree. Should really start talking about what I learned and what I do and don’t know a bit more.

Ibis on a Fence

A bit of a dark photo, but I’m fine with that as it draws more attention to the ibis’ shape than it does the details on it, though it is nice that you can see some of the feather positioning.

I’m pretty sure that when I took this photo the ibis was keeping an eye on me as during my slow approach it turned around, then decided to head elsewhere. Had I stayed still it might not have flown away.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 779: Fatigue-Induced Mess

Alright, so I have no idea as to what is going on. I woke up at around five in the morning and it has now been over seven hours and I am yet to even begin. It is now the afternoon and I am still in the mode of preparation. Need to get all the stuff done. Is this what they refer to as “fatigue”? I do not know, for I do not care. Need to get into the act of doing things.

Need to do the gliding thing and treat this as a graceful act rather than a violent aggression toward the keyboard to make the words that form the visual of the words that then get scanned by your eyes and processed into something visible so that you can then READ what it is that I am putting down.

I need to try and tune out the shrill sounds of birds dancing on a roof as it is rather distracting and that distraction is something that I would prefer to live my life without as that means then that I have one less excuse to blame things on and thus be more productive, or something, but then again the almighty beast that is being tired engulfed me a few hours ago and now I do not know as to what it is that I need to do to get past it. The COFFEE did not do an effective job and perhaps that means that I need more of it in order to be able to function and get through the rest of the day. This being tired is hard and all that stuff.

See, I can do that. I can have more COFFEE, but there are ramifications. There is a delicate balance that I must strike and having more COFFEE is not a good idea all of the time. It might clash with my plans to, in a few hours, have TEA. I don’t want that clash. Want to keep it all running smooth and easy. Would rather the smooth and easy and get to the end of it all over having too much caffeine, or somehow not enough. Might get me to places I don’t want to through the process of overshooting.

So I say all of this and yet all I really need to do is knuckle down and work on things and then get them to where they need to be so that I can then work on more things. It is a process of working and working on the process is what I need to do, though not right now. What I need to do at the current moment is just get all of this done, then that done and then keep on working. However, there may be a slight digression for the opportunity to go for a walk as going for a walk is a nice thing. Depends, really. I’ll see how everything else pans out, but maybe instead I’ll do other things.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 04:51:96

Rather quick, this one was.
Bit of a fatigue-induced mess.

Towering Structure

This is a shot I took a few weeks ago now.
Not sure as to why I waited so long to process it, but I did and now here we are.

I was trying to frame the transmission tower in a particular way. I think that I at least partially succeeded.

I like that the transmission tower appears to be leaning, as well as how the cables (kind of) appear to move away from the tower. I also like how well the angularity of the frame came out.

I hope you enjoy.

One Thousand Word Challenge 70: More Messy Writing

What a rush this morning has been. there was walking. There was talking. There was eating. This was not done all at the same time, but over a period of time and now it is all done and I am doing the work thing which is no different from the usual.

Slept well, am awake, have watered the plants. There are things that needed to be done that have been done. There still is plenty to do before the end of the day, however. Need to do the editing. Need to churn this out. Need to do more writing. Need to avoid customers as much as possible. It is going to be a busy day, though hopefully not due to the speaking to people who want things yesterday rather than soon.

But of course that is what I’m currently choosing to deal with as a barrier to doing things that don’t involve my getting paid. Such is the way of things. If I play with this sport of setting, then I need to expect the obstacles of which I’m allowing myself, or something. I don’t know what I’m trying to say, though I feel that (in most instances) creation is far better than bei0ng yelled at.

Anyway, that is not what this is about. I think that today it’s just a jotting down of thoughts as they float on by and find their way elsewhere. I shall catalogue what it is that passes on through in the hopes of creating an impression of it that shall exist for some time. That time shall be until I decide to take it down, or until it disappears of its own accord. I’m not sure as to how all of this will turn out, but then again, that is yet to stop me, so onward I go, or something. I don’t know; you think of some way to end that sentence. I’m feeling too lazy to think of a better ending.

So anyway, I’m here, sitting, typing this out. Feeling a bit thirsty. Want to stretch my legs. It is quiet at the moment which means I can get on with writing whatever this is. I wonder how it will turn out, but I don’t always wonder. Sometimes I do find myself wondering about these things as I am writing them, but somehow that seldom ends up being expressed in the text that I produce. Such is the way of things, I guess. don’t want to reveal all of my hand; only some of it. Probably should reveal more, but if I did that then there would be things expressed that I don’t always feel like expressing. I try to keep Stupidity Hole away from too much personal stuff; well, overtly anyway. Earlier there was a lot more stuff that was overtly personal, but these days I’d rather not be so overt about that.

It’s not that I mind being obvious about my personal life and thoughts; it’s that I don’t feel as though anything in my personal life is worth being over about. Then again, now that I think about it, there’s probably a lot of obvious stuff that I write (even recently) that reveals a lot more than I think I reveal, but sometimes that is the way things go. So long as people are getting something out of it, I don’t necessarily mind.

Anyway, let me move away from that now. There are other things that are worth more time exploring. I’m hoping that they come along sooner rather than later. It is currently quite quiet and so I’m getting a good flow going and I want that flow to keep on going. I also want a bit more fiction to crawl into what it is that I write, but unfortunately I seem to hit a bit of a blank whenever I approach the fiction approach. Not always, but only sometimes. I should really look at pushing past that.

There’s a bit of bright sun coming through my window, but only in shaded form. That’s nice as it takes a bit of the strain off. Not enough light, however. would rather a bit more and not from the light above my head that I have switched on to make staring at a screen a little more bearable for the work day. Such is the way things go on the odd occasion, though this is more of a frequent regularity than anything else, really. I think.

Anyway, there are other things to worry about and there are things that I need to make time for but I really don’t know if I will be able to. I’ve been writing for a little longer than I would like to admit, though this is in regard to this particular day. Want to take it a little more easy, but soon, soon I will be able to take it a little more easy. Just need to wait a little longer and then it will all be there and be ready for my relaxation. What I am referring to is the moving away from the computer that is used for my doing the work of taking calls and dealing with people. Then I will be able to relax. However, this is not entirely true. There will be more doing things, followed by even more doing things. It shall not end and I am fine with that for the time being. Might not be in a few days, but right now I am fine with the idea.

Now that that is all said I think that I shall use a bit more time to think of clouds floating on by over the city of Sydney. I care little for the city, but this image makes a nice image in my mind right now. It would be nice to see it from a decent vantage point, such as somewhere at Balls Head Reserve. Get to feel as though I’m more away from the city than I am.

The time it took to write one thousand words: 10:38:41

Happy with the speed, but I feel as though what I wrote is a messy read.

Not sure as to why I waited until the evening to upload.

Audience Engagement

Here is another photo of Anderson .Paak (here are the previous shots I’ve shared).

This one differs a bit from the previous shot featuring Anderson .Paak facing his audience. The space is framed differently and the audience is featured a little less, but they’re still there and they’re still visibly within the thrall of the performance.

The shot feels sort of humble in a way, if that makes sense. There’s something a bit more grounded about it than the other Anderson .Paak shots I’ve shared (I think), and it’s not just due to his crouching.

This photo was taken for Culture Eater. You can find a review of Anderson Paak’s performance here and the corresponding gallery here. Please go check them out, as well as the other stuff that our contributors are contributing.

This is my submission into the one hundred-and-eighteenth Lens-Artists Photo Challenge.

The theme for this one is “Communication“.

I’ve included this shot as quite often some form of communication between artist and audience is required for a successful gig. I feel that in this shot you can see Anderson .Paak keeping some form of direct communication going with the audience whilst continuing to sing.

The challenge is hosted by four people and cycles weekly:

Week 1 – Patti

Week 2 – Ann-Christine aka Leya

Week 3 – Amy

Week 4 – Tina

Anne Leueen of Horse Addict is guest-hosting this challenge… or more specifically, her horse, Biasini. Leya is hosting next week’s.

I recommend checking out how people are interpreting the challenges. I also recommend joining in. It’s a growing, fun community.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 778: In the Service of Surface

Where does the time go? It’s not in front of me, that’s for sure.

I don’t know what I am going on about so far, so that means we might just be off to a good start. Either that or a bad start. Perhaps the start is neutral. Don’t know and won’t know as I don’t know as to how far I’m going to go before I realise and I’m kind of hoping that I do not realise at all. That way I can just keep on going, or something.

Anyway, the time went somewhere and now we’re at the afternoon. Well, it’s nearly evening. It is the period of afternoon known as the period of afternoon before the transition into the period of the day known as the evening. That is where I am in time. Well, in time in relation to a period of twenty-four hours known as a day, that is. But anyway, none of that matters. It’s getting a little too deep into something that I don’t want tog et into right now as right now the dark, dark night that is the nighttime is outside my window and that is something that too would invite some sort of deepity that I don’t feel like getting into at this particular moment in time as I’d rather cover other things and not the things that involve the getting into of things.

What I want right now is all surface. I don’t want anything else. Anything else is an invitation for a lot of thought that I feel incapable of right now.

Well, actually, I do feel capable but I still don’t want to get into all of that. I have other things to worry about, and so on and so forth. Getting a little too much into all of it is going to take me down another path, so instead I just want all surface. I don’t want anything underneath. Any sort of layering is not welcome here. Maybe tomorrow, but right now it is a different story entirely. Right now it’s all about the gliding and not the digging. Will need a bit of a breeze, but I’m sure that with enough time and effort I’ll just be lightly skirting along at an accelerated pace so that I get taken somewhere far and somewhere off into the distance. Won’t be able t0o keep up with me and all that.

Well, if that odes indeed come to pass then I can at least sigh a sigh of some sort of success as I know that what I have done tonight will be all in the service of surface. There will be a brief moment of joy before I get back to doing something else, as is the way of the doing of things that I seem to do it seems. No other way of doing things really. Perhaps then I can dive into the deepness of things. Either that or nothing at all.

Now, where was I?

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 04:59:03

This was a bit difficult to write as once more my wrist is doing its thing. Still, instead of resting I persevered and ended up creating a mess of words.

Urban Railway Curve

This was taken in Wollstonecraft.

I think that with this shot, what appeals to me most is the light and shade contrast. The next thing that I find appealing is how everything is situated in relation to each other.

The train tracks are the most prominent thing due to requiring cleared space. The vegetation borders the tracks and add a bit of extra detail. The Sydney Harbour Bridge, few visible buildings and the cars contextualise the tracks as being in an urban location.

There’s something about this image that feels “small”, but I can’t quite work out what it is.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

One Thousand Word Challenge 69: Hair Growth

Lone sounds lead into a new world but I am not ready. There is so much hair that needs to be cleaned up right now. Under a shag of my own excess and it’s getting far, far too warm.

I let it all grow out beyond my shoulders. Down to the middle of the back. It was fine then. It was manageable. There was little to worry about. Didn’t have to put too much thought or effort into its being there. Could swish it around and there were no issues of it getting tangled in stuff. Fine things.

I probably should have cut it then, but that was not to be. Instead I was enjoying its length and volume. I liked that I could make it spread out by moving my head quickly. I liked that a breeze would pick it up and make it move in a few different directions until it found some sort of uniform formation. Didn’t like untangling the knots, but you take the good with the bad, as they say. Ultimately it wasn’t that big of an issue, as far as I was concerned.

When the hair got down to my waist, it was beginning to feel a bit more weighty than it had in the past. This wasn’t much of a problem. It was nothing that I couldn’t handle. Harder to swish around, but sometimes that is the way things go. I could kind of shape it into different shapes and make it look as messy as I wanted. Not an issue. I could tie it up in a few different ways and still have plenty of hair left dangling on down. It was fun. It was annoying, but it was fun.

That’s when the problems started, however. That is really when I should have cut it and freed myself from the responsibility of so much hair. Of course, I did not.

From that length the hair started growing rapidly. Far more so than it had previously. It was quite quickly becoming rather unruly and uncooperative. It was not long before I had no choice but to drag the hair behind me, for tying it up in different ways was causing a great strain on my neck and, eventually back. Then it wasn’t too long before I had little choice other than to remain where I was for most of the time, and this of course was causing issues as I was much preferring not to become sedentary. I had things to do and places to be and all this hair was just getting in the way of it all.

It started to smother the roads and block off entryways and exits. This was not boding well for other people either. Sudden;y they had a whole lot of hair that they needed to contend with, and it wasn’t even theirs. It was just piling up where they needed to pass through. Footpaths and roads were being engulfed. It dd not abate at all and it just kept on pushing onward.

Strangely enough, there were few, if any who attempted to cut the hair themselves. As much as it was wanted to be known as to why, no one was willing to offer any reasoning or explanation. It is possible that perhaps they felt overwhelmed by what they were witnessing. It is rare to see so much hair, let alone it increasing in length and volume at such a rapid rate.

And so people left it all alone and tried to pretend that it didn’t exist. Despite it becoming more and more a part of people’s lives, they kept on pretending that it was not there. When faced with no way of avoiding it? Then it was always there. There was never anything to the contrary. There never was a time when the hair didn’t exist and it was fine that way.

However, once it started filling up stairwells and causing lifts to jam, that’s when people really started to properly take notice and decide that perhaps there should be something done about the issue at hand.

Still, there was a lot of slow action on the whole thing; thus the hair continued unabated. At the very least people were more willing to pay attention and raise their concerns; that was positive change.

Once it started affecting public transport a little too severely, that’s when people really started getting up in arms. Private vehicle owners, long ignored in their disgruntled cries were finally afforded some sense of vindication as all united in looking to stop the follicle folly from continuing and so there finally was a better sense of progress and awareness. It soon would reach the point where proactive action would take place.

At this point I had little in the way of anywhere I could go, for the weight was keeping me in a rather limited range. I hadn’t been outside in a while and had gone past a point of stress and was more resigned and detached to the whole issue. I had nothing of which I could use to cut my hair within available reach as unfortunately the hair had blocked off access to anything I could use.

At some point whilst waiting around for the day to pass I heard someone approaching from some distance. Through the rear entry of my residence they made their way in and somehow managed to push their way through all the hair. I heard their muffled sounds and looked in the direction I believed them to be coming from. It took a little while, but eventually a person popped their way out of the mass of hair.

They looked at me for a moment and then held up a pair of scissors. I looked at them, then the scissors and found a growing sense of relief erase my firm sense of resignation. Without much in the way of words, they walked up to me. Then they carefully, yet determinedly started cutting through my hair.

The time it took to write one thousand words: 15:50:83

This came from a simple thought: “I haven’t written about hair in a while.”

I feel that what I wrote flows well but overall my use of words leaves a bit to be desired.

Alchemy’s Vocalist

This is a shot of the vocalist of a band by the name of Alchemy who just so happened to be one of the supports for Fleshgod Apocalypse when they played at The Bald Faced Stag last year (here’s a set of photos from the show).

I feel as though this is a really lucky shot. There’s an idea of the power going into the vocals and I feel the angle gives the vocalist’s body a sort of unfamiliar look whilst still being recognisable as a body.

I hope you enjoy.
