Standing on the Face

I was trying to get a shot of this Eurasian coot as it jumped into the water and I guess that I did get that shot.

However, it appears to be using the face of the wall to launch itself as it goes down, but it also appears as though The Eurasian coot is standing on the face of the wall, somehow defying gravitational pull with little difficulty.

I hope you enjoy.

Once More, a Customer Service Story

So today I’m writing about customers once more which may be tiring to some of you, but they keep giving me things to write about, so I’m going to keep writing about them… for the time being, at least.

Yesterday I took a call, which is a revolutionary twist on my job of being a customer service operator, but I’ll try to keep all of this as calm as possible.

I took a call from someone, there were issues with some of the things related to what the customer was telling me that brought into question their telling the truth, they hung up a few seconds after I put them on hold, then when I tried to call them back I got a voice message featuring a different voice to the person I was speaking to which further confirmed my suspicions, sent the details to my manager and then that was the end of that small call.

A few hours later I got a call back form the same person. I realised that it was them once the same issues prior cropped up and so I told them that we knew that the person wasn’t who they claimed to be and thus we could not assist them. The person on the other line, being the eloquent and calm person that they were decided to gracefully use language to illustrate a point and in no way, shape or form were they at any point derogatory toward my being. This of course meant that in no way, shape or form did I ask / tell them to stop due to my lack of appreciation for the way that they were speaking to me.

They were demanding to find out something, I repeatedly told them I couldn’t. Then very quickly someone with an older-sounding voice came on, claiming to be the person on the account. In no way did this sound like someone imitating an older person. In no way was I suspicious when they were clearly muting their end of the call to get answers when I was asking for information.

It came to a point where I told them that I had reason to believe that I was still not speaking to the correct person. Of course instead of trying to continue the act the person went back to their regular voice and said “You stupid cunt, I fucken’ hope you die!”, and proceeded to hang up.

Well sir, eventually we all die. I would be a bit concerned if I were to somehow become immortal. It’s a bit of a scary thing at times, but the fact that we die is a great motivator to work toward something that is both something for us and also something far greater than ourselves. It can also help us truly appreciate the world around us.

That aside, if you’re in a position where you’re not going to get what you want, reacting violently won’t help. What did you think would happen? Did you think I would decide to breach policy and break the law as you think the best thing to do is throw a tantrum and quite possibly think that will change my mind somehow?

Some customers are wonderful and some think that they are entitled to more than they are. Some customers decide to be shitty people. If you decide to be a shitty person to a customer service representative, then please don’t and instead try and treat them a bit better. There’s no need to make our job more difficult because you think that the best way to treat someone is poorly.

Albert (Tibby) Cotter Walkway

Surprise!

It’s a bridge.

A bridge that coils around as it moves toward the ramp that allows the crossing of Anzac Parade in a safe manner.

This shot has (to me) weird lighting.
Not sure what it is about the lighting. Just feels weird.

I like that the coil of the bridge is indicated by what is in the photo, and I think that the low cloud cover helps for the bridge to have a bit more depth in the photo.

Leanne Cole recently has started a new challenge.
This is for the current challenge with the theme being “Bridges”.

I suggest checking out the challenge, as well as Leanne’s photographic work.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 485: Klang.

“Klang”.

The sound resonates off the walls, through the hearts of the populace and around the world ninety times before it can no longer be felt.

The dropping of the object was not what was expected. The watching of it fall was almost as though it was some sort of horrible dream.

The feeling of it hitting the floor and the sound that came out after was uncomfortable and, in a way, sickening.

What it symbolised was something far beyond what people could imagine, and as they tried they slowly went mad and became ravenous, gnashing their teeth and howling in incomprehensible screams.

No one knew what to do. What the object represented and what its fall signaled was something that no one had a solution for. No one could explain how it happened, either. It just kind of happened.

There were plans set in place to prevent such an event happening, but of course no amount of planning could actually stop the fall from happening. All it did was merely reduce the chances of it happening at a few particular points in time.

As it sank through the air and reached for the ground, those that were around were wide-eyed. They wanted to jump in and stop the object from reaching its unintended target, but they dared not touch the object, for there was no telling as to what would happen.

And it rang out and spread across the surface of the earth and reached out to the peoples and they went mad from the revelation and they became violent and aggressive as they were exposed to the sound as it stretched across everyone.

It was a single sound that rang out  and it was a single sound that lead to society simultaneously deciding to eject itself from all that heard and felt that single sound.

This was a change that was not gradual, but sudden. It was almost as if a world that had great societies built was not even a concept. All succumbed to base primitive instinct and all stopped thinking.

In only a few weeks the human world was irrevocably changed for that period of time. Primitive behaviour ruled and those that were not strong enough were cast to the side to hide away from those that struck down that which got in their way to whatever they were targeting.

Eventually, with time a new society formed and slowly built itself upon the old formations. It was not quite something that resembled pure primitive behaviour, but also not something that could have been considered something advanced. It was purely modern in its scope and it functioned as well as it needed to. However, those that had survived did not know of the object and did not know of its sound, were it to fall once more.

No one knew and in that not knowing there was enough space for failure, for the structures were shaky and the new society was still fragile in its early infancy.

Slow. A bit more together than some posts.

Surprised that this came out apocalyptic.
Still, it’s more fiction and I want to push my posts closer to fiction.

Written at work.

Steady Landing

An ibis and a bench.

The Ibis had moved form the table section onto the bench itself and I was lucky enough to be there to capture this shot.

A great landing, I think. The wings outstretched just before the ibis folds them back allows for great form and shape to be witnessed.

The bird is strong and graceful without being showy.

I hope you enjoy.

Horizon of Salmon

It was a quiet day.

Well, it was a quiet afternoon.

It was a period of time that was between morning and evening, coming close to twilight, although it may as well have been anyway, but that was the time in which this bit of text takes place.

There was a thing, there was a land, there was a thing and a land and there was a thing that was not a land but something else entirely, although usually it would be associated with the land.

There was a peace, there was a quiet and there was something that could not easily be perceived from a distance.

Those that were around were getting on with their business, doing whatever they needed to do in order to keep on going through the day. Some were relaxing, some were working, and some were playing around, enjoying their lazy afternoon for they did not need to either relax or work.

The space was open around this particular area.

The sky was a lazy blue, with few clouds passing by in the sky above the area in question.

The horizon was in clear view and due to that false sense of security of it always being easy to see, there was a false sense of security that betrayed the area in question.

The afternoon passed and soon the sun deemed it necessary to set and reach another part of the earth with its glorious light. The colour cast upon the sky drew the blue back to be replaced with hues of orange and red as it crawled from the sun and outward like a cloth being drawn over a light to recast its altering of tone.

A sound could be heard coming from somewhere beyond visibility that was unfamiliar to the area in question. It was not exactly unpleasant, but it also was something not appreciated by the people of the area in question. As it grew from barely audible to something faint yet distinct it grew into a sound quite bothersome, for there was no frame of reference that could be used for placement. The people wondered as to where it was coming from, but the horizon was only considered in jest, for if something had been coming from there, then the people surely would have seen the source.

But of course as they did not give the horizon a serious consideration, they blindfolded themselves and let what was approaching fast engulf them. Slowly, yet surely, what seemed to be a torrent of salmon in the air began appearing from somewhere in front of the sun, somewhere from the clear view of the horizon. As the size of the fishy mass grew, it appeared that it gained speed as indeed it was.

The horizon was not the horizon the people were familiar with; instead, it was a horizon of salmon, rapidly approaching the area in question, somehow propelled forward with no real explanation. The salmon themselves seemed confused. There was nothing to throw them and they remained suspended, travelling faster than they would in water. Yet as they tumbled through the air, they did not seem to be starved of their environment.

When the people began to notice, the salmon already had too much speed to allow for the area in question to be evacuated.

The salmon came and the area in question was engulfed. The rich scent of fish could be felt as much as the salmon forcibly being pushed through whatever was not the earth itself. the event was almost as sudden as it had ended, yet for those affected it was something that lasted far longer than eons.

The salmon passed and the area in question had all of its architecture leveled. No one had passed on like the clouds and it was not long before their lives resumed, but the horizon was now something for which they had a strong paranoia.

That paranoia would eventually become something forgotten, but the unease for the horizon would still remain as a lingering feeling difficult to place.

The horizon of salmon would too be forgotten. Yet it was something that need to be remembered, for forgetting only begat preparedness.

Liquid Plume

More sea spray.

A wonderfully violent, beautiful thing that reminds us of the awesome power of nature.

An arch in the air as it spreads outward from its original point of destination.

I love the ocean and its wonderfully overwhelming nature.

I love the patterns and displays that waves reaching a sudden end create.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 484: Remain Obligated

I can only sit for so long.

I’m sitting here, drifting off into my own thoughts, wondering as to what the hell I am doing here in this moment. There’s something pulling me away, and yet I remain obligated to sit here and work on things that I have no desire to work upon due to the agreement between myself and the system of education in which I am under which requires me to sit here and do things until I am able to complete them.

Hopefully this does not cost me dearly down the road.

Hopefully it does not mean that this post continues as some sort of heavily dramatic thing that just seems downbeat.

I guess I’m feeling a little downbeat, or something.

Definitely something that I’m feeling and it is the feeling of being alive in this world of the perceived reality that is around me.

Oh no. The walls are melting.

Oh well. Not much to do about that at the current moment.

Today feels like it s going to be a long day. I don’t know as to why it feels that way, but today just feels like it will go for a while.

It feels like it will go on for so long that I am currently stalling for time, working my way through things that are not work-related, nor study-related. It’s one of those days, but that is something I’ve said before. Still one of those days is how today remains, but perhaps it will change as the shape moves onward to another destination whilst I am left here, wondering as to how to proceed forward into a world of which I do not fully understand, which is a good thing in a way.

I think I just need to knuckle down and push everything to the side so I can keep my focus on the prize ahead. I think that that is what I need to do, but I don’t think I can do it due to being lazy and aimless in this moment.

There’s some changes coming ahead. I think those changes involve pants as well as writing elsewhere, although that elsewhere is yet to be determined.

Or is it?

there is a question that I do not answer because this has derailed and I know that., but I really want to pretend it hasn’t. I so desperately want to keep pretending that none of this has derailed and none of it derailed a long time ago, and yet it is there, in all nakedness, standing at me, stark and serious in its look, for I am merely denying the obvious, trying to hide and pretend that it is not there and it will not go and work with me until I finally accept the truth.

However, I cannot accept and must try to continue to see what the path looks like and where it leads, regardless of the issues that I may or may not face.

I push on forward.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 06:05:79

Sometimes I wonder as to why I keep on writing and putting my crap up here. It seems that some people get some sort of satisfaction from this and I guess that certainly I do, but there really should be better quality to this stuff.

Congwong Beach

This is a beach in La Perouse.

As you can see, this is a beach that has sand. The sand is somewhere between coarse and very fine.

The beachfront is wide, but overall Congwong is a smaller beach than some of the others you see around Sydney.

There’s a few dune “fences” around this area of La Perouse, such as the ones that can be seen in this photo. They’re there to help re-establish the sand dunes of the area.
There’s been a bit of damage done to them and they need to have the time to rejuvenate so they can serve their purpose.

I suggest reading up about sand dunes. We’ve an interesting history with them.

There’s a few different textures in this shot.

I like the way the different colours come together. Nothing too vibrant, nothing too flat, it all fits well.

This is my submission into the Lens-Artists Photo Challenge for this week.

This challenge is hosted by four people and cycles weekly:

Week 1 – Patti of https://pilotfishblog.com/

Week 2 – Ann-Christine aka Leya of https://lagottocattleya.wordpress.com/

Week 3 – Amy of https://shareandconnect.wordpress.com/

Week 4 – Tina of https://travelsandtrifles.wordpress.com/

This week is hosted by Leya and next week’s will be hosted by Amy.

I suggest following and considering participating, but also seeing how other people have responded to the photo challenge from The Daily Post ending.

Anyway, I hope you  enjoy.

Cables of the Frame

It’s been a few months since my last photo of Anzac Bridge, so here’s another one.

I was trying to capture the road at the bottom, but it wasn’t as much as I thought I’d get. Still, I like the result.

The cables separate further the farther out from an unseen point they are, and they cut the clouds and the sky.

Meanwhile, traffic crosses the bridge, although it appears as though the flow is not heavy.

I hope you enjoy.
