Pelican Preening

Not something I get to see every day.

Once more, another photo putting the form of a bird on display, but this time with another lazily floating about.

I think that the outstretched wing leads to some great angularity in conjunction with the beak and head of the pelican.

To me, the wing almost looks like a wave.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 392: A Sweaty Mystery

Why am I so sweaty?

There must be an explanation that exists beyond the reality of the nature of my gaining sweat.

Maybe it is due to walking a little faster than I usually would.

Who knows?!

I  know that there is an answer, somewhere within me and it is up to me and only me to find it and reveal the answer to the world, therefore finally unraveling and solving the greatest mystery of the day that is today.

Could it be a mystery for tomorrow? Who knows?

There is only one way to find out and that is through something that I cannot quite think of right now.

There must be a great amount of soul searching in order to reveal the mysteries of the world that currently lie in front of us.

There must be a great amount of looking back and forth in order to find out as to why I am sweaty right now.

I do know that it may have to do with the amount of weight in my backpack.

In fact, it probably has a lot to do with that, but that is not something that can be considered, for the story would be far too short if that was the consideration that I took under my wing in order to ruminate on the answers that may lay hidden within the dark depths of the pack that usually rests on my back when I am walking around with it in my possession.

Perhaps there will be no answers. Not today, not ever.

Perhaps there is only one direction and that direction is a little over to the left and backwards if you know how to get there.

If you don’t, then I have nothing else to say on the matter, for there are many answers and if none are discovered, mysteries shall remain as such and babes shall cry into the night due to the terror caused by the lack of knowledge, for knowledge is knowing and in knowing we can only know how little we know.

Unless we somehow do now know that, but anyway…

So perhaps there is a lot of weight in my backpack and perhaps I was walking at an accelerated pace. One could say that it was a little faster than usual.

There are many possibilities and they all must be explored very slowly in order to drag this out for as long as I can, for I am very quickly running out of steam and once I am completely out, there will be something else on the horizon, I am sure.

Still, this must be the focus for at least another few minutes, in order to maker sure that all is well and well is all that is good and dandy.

That is, unless I do not go down that path, for there are already answers around and they are answering the greatest mystery of the morning, unless there is one that is greater than my sweating.

More verbal spew.

I think this is a bit silly, but does a good job of showing how much I can stretch something out.

Whether that is a good thing or not, I do not know.

Dramatic Redfern Station

A few nights ago I was lucky enough to bear witness to this dramatic sky.

Something about it seems really striking. Maybe it’s due to how much the light and dark areas contrast with each other.

Otherwise I think this scene doesn’t feel quiet, but does feel small.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 391: Every Thing is Peanut Butter

I ate too much peanut butter earlier and now I’ve entered a world of peanut butter.

EVERY THING IS PEANUT BUTTER!

What do I do? How do I live? How do I get on with the task of getting on?

How do I make sure that in the aftermath of this peanut butter consumption, I am going to remain the same?

Nothing will be the same anymore and forever we are changed on a trajectory that I cannot control.

There is no turning back, for the past is now behind us and we are forever moving forward and the large consumption of peanut butter may have glorious ramification that I am unable to predict.

There could be many conclusion that are explored as once and all because the world is turning into peanut butter, and it’s the oily, limp stuff. Not the crunchy stuff like what I was eating before as it gradually took over my mouth and became something far greater than just merely a bit of peanut butter on bread.

I don’t know where I am to go or what I am to do in this world of nuts that are no longer nuts.

I don’t even know how to know what it is that I need to know, as I do not know what I know and therefore in trying to know what I know there is no knowing the knowledge of that which I know.

I think.

Maybe I will be able to ride the waves of peanut butter toward an unknown day along some sort of thing that can only be overcome with the attempts of subterfuge that I am so readily poor at committing, but only if I am wearing the hate that is not peanut butter until it is peanut butter, but at least there will be some sort of eternal food source that will be around me and therefore I will be able to make the journey without having to worry about going hungry.

Still, there would be a lot to worry about and in having to worry about that stuff I would have to do things, such as find something that will not become peanut butter despite everything else becoming peanut butter and therefore likely everything becoming peanut butter.

I know that there must be hope maintained, for there is always hop e for something better than a bad situation and there is more often than not a way out of a situation that seems impossible to surmount.

With that hope, perhaps the world could become not peanut butter once more. Perhaps there will be a better tomorrow that could not be seen just as of yet. Perhaps there will be a way to get around the situation of dire consequences and then one day we will be able to once more taste things of great taste, such as plums, Vegemite and cactus thorns.

Perhaps there will be a way out and then we will once more find ourselves with foods.

I don’t know what this is about.

Such is life.

Fishing

A moment of fishing as performed by a pelican.

This wasn’t the shot I was aiming for, but it is the one I ended up capturing and I like how weird it looks (to me).

The whole form of the pelican is still clearly that of a bird, but somehow it doesn’t seem bird-like.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 390: Some Sort of Balance

Where there are hills, there are rises and falls in the landscape that stretch as far as the terrain allows for it to stretch.

Sometimes these lead to various locations of interest, such as the sea, or the mountains. Sometimes they are what make the mountains the mountains.

There is a lush land out there, waiting to be explored by many, and yet should remain as untouched as it has always been, for the introduction of people into an area may lead to its eventual destruction.

At the same time, it may also lead to its fierce protection in order to protect it from being harmed by too many people visiting.

There is always a push and pull top these things, and yet it seems that it seldom shifts to one side or another.

Among these areas of interest are vast habitats and animals yet to be classified, especially in the oceans that run as deep as the mountains are tall, and in some cases far, far deeper.

There is a whole world out there for us to see, and yet far too often we spend too much of our time huddled in the cities, rarely venturing into unfamiliar territory, for the call of the urban life is something that we are far too willing to allow ourselves to be persuaded by.

There needs to be some sort of balance that needs to be struck, for in remaining close to the urban environment only allows us to experience something that is stilted, for outside of this there is far more wonderment to be seen.

Ultimately there needs to be a balance. There is nothing inherently wrong with wanting to stick to an urban environment, but how much is too much? How much should a city spread before we consider it to be detrimental? How much must the natural world be ignored before people start turning around and realising that it is something worth leaving as is instead of developing over?

Being among the bush, the forest, the ocean… it’s a wonderful, awe-inspiring thing to immerse yourself within, but if you do have an enjoyment of the urban environment, then at what point do you realise that you can’t spend all of your time away from the suburbs?

As said, there needs to be a balance found. There’s wonderment in both, but I do think that nature has far more to offer than the urban environment.

Sure, we offer ourselves technology and advancement, but nature has the ability to reward those who do not seek instant gratification and would rather work for something. Nature offers us experiences and places that do not become something that becomes overwhelming due to a flooding of information.

Of course, this is also available in the urban environments, but not nearly to the same extent.

There’s something about nature that, once you start exploring, really pulls you in the further you go.

However, it can be nice to return to the urban after plenty of exploration.

I started off trying to write fiction and then it became what it became.

I think I could have used words much more efficiently to get what I was saying across, but I hope that this does lead to some thinking.

Urban Glow

More Darling Harbour at night.

The focus probably could have been much better but at least the colours were okay.

I think that this gives an idea of light density in at least part of Darling Harbour.

So much of it is bright and clustered, yet there are plenty that are not on.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 389: Greasy, Flammable Guy

It’s another one of those days spent at uni, not doing much and yet doing as much as possible as there is a lot that needs to be finished before I can completely and utterly declare my failure to get anything done at this particular stage of life spent in this year.

I’m beat. Rather tired. Have to get a fair bit done at the moment, but don’t want to do any of it due to laziness.

There’s other stuff I’d rather be doing, such as nothing at all due to the increasing amount of laziness for me.

There’s a lot that I do want to do that I don’t have the time to do.

Outside it is a sunny day and I am in here, typing away as there are things that need to be done! What fate has befallen me? This is a terrible way to live and I do not know if I will be able to cope for much longer!

I do know that there is a way out and once that way out has been found, then free I shall run in the winds of joy as those around me continue to beat their heads against a wall and their fists against a desk, in frustration, whereas I will be free and dancing and will be making my way towards meadows as the breeze blows through the grass, making it sway back and forth. There will be no one out there to stop me, for I will have managed to achieve all that needed to be achieved and then success will be within my hands.

How dare anyone try to take that away.

How dare.

They will not succeed, for I am too quick and slippery, like an eel covered in grease and jelly. I will be able to slide my way down the hills that are in front of my direction and there will be no slowing to my descending the topography of the land. I will speed up as I please and then I will reach a point where I am somewhat unstoppable.

Better watch out: there’s a greasy guy on the loose.

There would be so many places to check out and slide through. Perhaps there would be too many, which would leave me feeling indecisive about where I could and could not go all the time. There are only so many hours in the day and there are only so many places in which a greasy person can slide.

I’d also need to make sure that my grease is not able to burst into flames, for if it was, I would have a bit of a conundrum in my hands.

I would have to eternally outrun the flame as it tries to reach my glorious shimmering body, lest I become one with the flame and then am a greasy guy on fire.

However, before all of that I must get the work of the university that I need to do done.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 06:17:48

Well… hmm…

I don’t know.

Written at university.

Spider and Mosquito

Whilst at Smiths Lake I saw a large mosquito stuck against a wooden structure.

It was twitching as a spider worked its way around.

I guess, in a way this image tells a “Story” between two organisms.

This is my submission into The Daily Post‘s photo challenge for this week.

I hope you enjoy.

Pay Phone

There used to be a few more of these around Sydney.
Obviously as society advances these aren’t as needed.

I think that I managed to get a god light balance of the subject and I like how it is reflected in the glass of the stairs to the side.

This is my submission into Leanne Cole‘s Monochrome Madness for this week.

This one was themed due to it being the first Wednesday of the month and the theme was ‘Telephone’.

I strongly recommend checking it out to see what other people have submitted, as well as checking out Leanne’s work outside of M.M.

I also recommend submitting and being part of M.M. It’s a fun, community-driven event.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.
