Five-Hundred Word Challenge 252: A Good Place for Feasting

Well, it is fine in the office and all, but really, when you need to feast, is there any place that could be seen as being better than the park?

They’ve got those huge grassy areas where there’s grass in an area that constitutes a huge size when compared to the size of a person or some people so you can sit down and be as ornery as you want!

People don’t like it? You just go over to them and start chewing food right in front of their face. That will show them who is the master of eating delectable delicacies bought from delicious places that sell food that is delicious instead of the building as the building itself would not be delicious and eating it would probably lead to a heavy bot of indigestion.

Probably.

So you eat in the huge area full of grass, but they’ve also got those marble statues made of materials that you can make statues out of and you sit on top of them after you eat so you can contemplate the meaning of existence whilst birds fly around in interesting patterns that ebb and flow with the form of the birds in their shape, creating some sort of peaceful scene that only you can appreciate when you are that far above the ground, which is not too far but far enough to lead to some sort of concern if you  have a fear of heights.

There would be people who would walk past and think that this is an odd action to take and tell you top get down, but of course you’d tell them to go away as you are busy being lost in thought and concentrating hard and the very fact that they are ruining your concentration is an offensive, heinous act that they have committed in that very moment in time and now you have to challenge them to a trial in the form of combat on the highest, most dramatic hill that one can find, complete with rain and lighting to set the scene. It would need to be dark when this is happening. However, it could not be too dark because if it is too dark then you can’t see the action and the drama which would also meant hat you would not be able to see what their actions mean, therefore not being able to derive the depth of the motion and actions taken in this combat event of the millennium.

And who would be the winner anyway? Surely, when all is said and done, the person who has survived is not really the victor but merely the person who did a better job of surviving and it is up to them now to mourn the loss of another soul in the world and bury them, then visit their grave every year to respect the battle that was.

The person who didn’t survive was actually hiding out somewhere as they used a decoy model to escape.

I know that today I wanted to write and I didn’t really care about what I wrote, so this is the result.

It’s silly enough, but I’m sure that it can be followed somehow.

Departing from Erskineville Station

Recently I found myself once again in Erskineville, so once again I took some photos whilst I was there.

I like the contrasting light levels, as well as the blur of the train despite it not going that fast when this was taken.

I hope you  enjoy.

Silver Gull

A photo of a silver gull as seen at Darling Harbour.

Look at its majesty as it makes its gull sounds!

Behold as its steely gaze pierces into the very soul of one’s being to discern the truth of character.

I hope you enjoy.

Lines

This was taken a number of weeks ago whilst I was making my way to a place in Redfern.

This works well as a counterpart shot for a photo that I took in 2015 that I thought I uploaded.

I don’t feel as though the photo has a good deal of depth to it, but it is framed quite nicely.

The train almost seems to be completely still despite knowing it is in motion.

I also think that this is a nicely-captured moment during a day of decent weather.

I hope you enjoy.

Deriving Satisfaction from Seeing Someone you don’t Agree with Getting Punched is Screwed up

A bit earlier today whilst having a conversation with Je, I found out that he wanted to see a guy whose views he doesn’t agree with get punched around as it would be very satisfying.

Admittedly this is in the sport of boxing which people watch to enjoy the sport of boxing so the punching is sanctioned, but I think it’s a little screwed up to derive satisfaction from watching someone who you don’t agree with get punched, regardless of how much you despise their views.

People might defend the wanting to see someone they don’t like get hit as something intrinsic to human nature, to which I say that they’re full of shit.

There’s plenty of people out there who have views or have done something that you don’t agree with, but most of the time you may never get to find out about that and support them regardless.

One might not support war, something that is usually sanctioned, but usually in war there’s a lot of people going against something that one may not agree with. Why is it not okay to derive pleasure form seeing a bunch of people who hold views you don’t like get damaged in some way, but it is okay for one person who happens to be a boxer get punched around in a boxing ring because you don’t agree with their views?

To be clear, I am not against boxing. If people want to get into that, then that’s their choice.

What I am against is someone getting satisfaction from seeing someone they don’t like or agree with getting punched.

I do not think that it is okay and that there is not many circumstances in which this line of thought can be justified.

If you don’t like what someone believes, then don’t support their beliefs. Don’t support their views. Fight against them, but don’t decide that it is a good idea to put a barrier between you and them in some form.

People think they are better than others, but the thing is that no one is better or worse than anyone else.

Plenty of people out there do bad things and there are plenty who do good things. That does not suddenly make you superior or inferior to someone else. That also does not justify or vindicate satisfaction in seeing someone get punched or hurt, regardless of how sanctioned the action happens to be.

Besides which, you may be deriving satisfaction from someone who might be a very good person who has some shitty views about something. You may be deriving satisfaction from seeing someone who is open to discourse and learning getting hit about for a while.

There are people who say that it’s only a sport and it doesn’t actually mean anything, but sport actually means a lot. There have been some really severe consequences from sport that people want to overlook to justify the equally shitty views that they hold.

I’ve said before that people are allow to say whatever they want but they need to be open to criticism and having their views challenged. I think this also extends to someone’s beliefs.

I think that it is wrong to derive satisfaction from seeing someone get punched just because you don’t agree with them. I don’t think that you can justify it by saying that it’s just a sport when you’re against war, or by saying that it’s part of human nature.

Sorry for the repetition.

End rant.

Angles

On one side of Anzac Bridge, if you look away from the bridge after you get onto it then you get a somewhat-okay view of some of Sydney.

Using this vantage point, I took the below photo.

I like the angularity and geometry of it, as well as the warm colours bathing the buildings.

It feels like everything is small in this photo, even though this is all large stuff.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 251: The First Day of July

It’s a cold day. It’s a first day. It’s a tax day.
We are officially within the grip of winter. It is the first day of July. It is the first day in which an income tax assessment can be submitted.

I am sitting on a chair on the first day of July which is also the first day of the ability to do the income tax assessment magic thing money-blaster that makes adults weep and rage with the fury of at least fourteen suns punching on with a bunch of kangaroos before they all go down to the pub for a nice cold one or two before the inevitable argument over who buys the first round which would lead to another punch up.

Today is a day in where I am sitting in front of a computer at work because I am at work working whilst work works itself out around me and all I want to do is begin eating the walls in some vague attempt at beautiful, ambient drama with a slice of lemon fish that has only been harvested during the pure glow of the full moon on the stillest of oceans, abandoned by the winds of change that would guide the trade routes to their destination on a salty morning of fresh, grating breeze and whales moving en masse.

The waters were once as prosperous as any other body of ocean, but once the winds left the ability for people to gather resources and use them to travel easily diminished to nothing, although sometimes people in small boats are able to catch fish unlucky enough to be showing off when there is obviously a boat sitting on the surface, for which then they’d use the fish to feed their people and the creatures that inhabit their small village as it is a better alternative to something that is not good as an alternative to this option.

Sometimes the village would sacrifice people to the dragon that lives nearby, except that there was no dragon as instead of a dragon it was a bunch of people in a dragon costume. Once the people were sacrificed, the truth would be revealed to them and they’d go to the other end of the cave which was actually a tunnel and live a life of peace among the plants and animals and they would all be merry with each other and have a good time and drink happily and thus would dance merrily in some sort of amazing unison between human and non-human and there was much happiness and merriment and wild abandon.

That was until the day when that all stopped for a day, but then it resumed once more because it is impossible to stop the joy. It always comes back no matter how hard some people try.

That’s the great thing about joy: It grows up from the ground and usually veers to the left on a steep incline.

Sop it’s a slow day at work.

I think I went off on a bit of a ramble with this.

Oh well.

Sunset Over Redfern Tracks

I was heading into Redfern when this photo I took.

I think that this works well with the other photos of this location that I’ve recently taken, mostly due to the tone and mood created by the lighting of the sky and time of day.

Here the shot is a bit more relaxed and calm. There’s no trains and the lighting is darker for this time of day than in an open field.

I like that the sunset seems muted in this shot.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 250: Bushwalking Yesterday

Right now, I am in a lot of pain, and yet I feel fine as it’s the good kind of pain.

You see, I went bushwalking yesterday, which is something that I think I recently mentioned.

Bushwalking was good. It was right through the Royal National Park, from Waterfall to Loftus.

There were some slight detours and at one point I lost the lens cap for my wide angle lens, something that left me feeling a bit sad, but the lens is fine and I’ve a new cap on the way, so I’m feeling okay with the loss.

It was really good to get away from the city. It had been far too long since I was last in the bush so the feelings of release and calm that I get from being in the bush were long overdue.

It had been somewhere around four months, which (to me) is far, far too long to be away from the bush.

Well, there was a the field trip for one of my university subjects, but that doesn’t count too much as, whilst that was relaxing in some ways, it was more for study, which is fine, but it doesn’t provide the same things that I usually get when I am in the bush.

It was a wonderfully long walk that allowed m,e to see some things that I would not normally see when I am in the Royal National Park. I will be sharing some of the photos in the coming weeks, so that should provide a bit of a treat.

It was raining at one point, but I was largely unaffected and not inhibited in my walking.

Unfortunately most of the track was following a really compressed dirt road, but on the plus side, it gave a bit of space and I was still surrounded by bush land. It also allowed me an easy walk through most of the place.

Right now, my legs are really sore, but it’s the good kind of sore as it has come from something that I really enjoy doing.

I got this from doing a lot of walking and breathing clean air, whilst getting access to some really beautiful views that were mostly composed of vegetation and not much else.

I don’t think that I have much else to say about the walk at the moment and I don’t know what else to write about, which probably has to do with still feeling tired as I went to bed ate and woke up early like the little lazy worker bee that I am, so I’m going to try and take up the rest of this space with the words of this sentence, but I’m not too sure if I will get to the end without writing a sentence that is more lame rambling than coherent wisdom from the depths of darkness that I regularly plunge into as it lies within myself and is the well of my painful, yet beautiful soul of adjective verb.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 08:27:40

I’m going to guess that the best time for me to write is not whilst I am in a fair bit of pain that, whilst is annoying, was totally worth it as yesterday was a most wonderful day.

I think that this feels almost as though it’s a bit repetitive. I think I ran out of steam a bit earlier than I expected.

Dancing Water

Water shot into the air has many great forms as rises from and returns to the earth.

The theme for The Daily Post‘s photo challenge this week is “Delta“, although it may be more appropriately seen as “Change”.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.
