Mound

This is a photo I took a few days before the end of 2014.
I was bushwalking in Mount Kuring-gai with Drew and someone else.
I saw this and decided I should take photos.
I’m not sure as to why I decided to.
It may have had to do with the shape.
It may have been uncommon on the track.
I can’t remember.

I know I do like the shape.
I find the structures that ants can build to be fascinating.

I’m using it for The Daily Post‘s photo challenge this week.
This time the theme is “Beneath Your Feet“.

I could have gone in closer but for some reason I didn’t.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Dark Sun

Good morning all!

On Thursday night I discovered (for the second time) I could apply effects to my phone camera when taking pictures.

As I was going to be attempting to capture the sunrise from Sydney Harbour Bridge during Friday morning, I decided to see how some pictures with effects applied would turn out.

Unfortunately I missed the sunrise by about fifteen minutes but I took pictures anyway.

Here is one of them.

I do like how it turned out.

It’s odd to see the sun in such a manner.

It is recognisable as the sun, yet at the same time it looks as though it is a giant hole in the sky.

Or perhaps a part of the night sky still clinging on.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-hundred Word Challenge 35: Forcing Myself to Write

Here I find myself once again at the end of a shift where I have worked overtime.
Once again I find myself not feeling hungry but at the same time feeling hungry and now I’m writing gibberish.

I’m currently forcing myself to write as I really don’t feel like it but I know that I’ll feel better when I’m done writing this little bit and whilst I cannot deny that it will have a lot to do with the fact that I’ll be heading home and feeling much more relaxed, I also can’t deny that sometimes I feel better once I’ve written something.

I don’t think that’s weird, as it really isn’t as writing can be a good form for venting.

I’d like to walk home all the way from work one day.
I’d probably walk all the way to work in the morning first though, just to test the viability of it.
With that being said, how I’d feel in the morning would most likely be vastly different to how I’d feel in the evening and therefore not a good representation as to whether I’d be up for doing it after finishing a long, grueling day of being the greatest at what I do in the history of forever, reshaping my role as I break into new territory and continually reinvent the position as I refine and define it.

Sometimes being the greatest at everything forever is hard, but someone has to do it.

Maybe I’ll grab a flamingo and show it how to waltz as I sip my cup of pure being as you need to know the subtleties of breaking the nth mental barrier when it comes to shrugging shoulders, knowing whether a shrug too soft is going to disappoint or a shrug too hard is going to damage the ceiling.

If I peddled backwards half the way to sea and then slowly walked up the bowling alley of life towards a single brown rose telling me that it’s alright whilst I keep telling myself it’s alright unless dominoes eat the hair of spite, I think I could do a good job of reminding those that do not blink that you’ve got to take a dive into the grassy hill and sinking feeling that lets us know that cranial pursuits are a knowledgeable fruit beyond the darkness that kisses the feet of the sheep that don’t have hooves to make them feel much better about themselves.

Sometimes I wonder how many balls people are tripping over, as so many people are apparently “tripping balls”.
Maybe balls have legs that are invisible and have balancing issues and instead the issue is that people are tripping them over through some non-malicious act to prevent a greater threat.

Slipping away from the light and slowly disintegrating, becoming non-existence whilst simultaneously joining a collective consciousness or ascending to a higher plane of existence.

Not filled with panic but acceptance, slowly rising, rising into a greater, more wondrous unknown.

Ascending…

Ascending…

Ascending…

Yet another written at work.
Faster again.
I may have been able to do it about one minute faster.
I did have to pause a couple of times to think about what I was writing.

Oh well.

Altocumulus stratiformis 2

Here are two pictures I took of clouds whilst I was at the bridge I cycled to for photography purposes.

I like how they turned out.

The clouds remind me of chrome, or at least something that has a strong visual hardness.
I feel that the contrast between the clouds and the sky is part of what makes the clouds appear this way.

It might also have to do with me using a custom setting.

I’m quite certain that these are Altocumulus stratiformis clouds.
They look far closer to them than the previous ones I uploaded here.

However, If they aren’t then please let me know.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

A Familiar Bridge

On Sunday I cycled to the suburb I grew up in and also lived in for a couple of years after moving out of home.
I only went for the purpose of taking a picture of a particular bridge to use as my twentieth entry into Leanne Cole‘s “Monochrome Madness“, as this Wednesday is theme Wednesday for “MM” (with “bridges” being the theme).

I’ve taken a lot of photos of Anzac Bridge (I think), as I live near it.
I’ve also taken a lot of photos that feature Sydney Harbour Bridge (I think).
It would have been easy to use pictures of either of those for this but I my preference was for another one.

I did get a bit anxious as a I drew close to the suburb as a few of my memories of living there are not good. I still kept going though as my desire for a photo of this bridge outweighed my desire to be elsewhere.

When I got to the bridge I did become slightly emotional.
It was a bridge I crossed a lot when I attended high school.
It was also a bridge I crossed a few times when walking and cycling to explore the area I lived in.

Before it was in its current state, it had wooden planks for the walkway.
When I was cycling across it as a kid once (I may have been a young teenager), my front wheel became stuck as the planks were laid from end to end instead of side to side.

It was not a pleasant experience.

As an adult I had crossed it far less. Still, there were times when I needed to walk, so I would use it.

For me, the bridge holds a lot of sentimental value as I’ve crossed it a lot and seen it change.
It has, in a way, been a major part of my life.

Seeing it for the first time in a while was weird.
It was also comforting to know it was still there.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Five-hundred Word Challenge 34: Staring out a Window

Sometimes when you’re at work you will somehow find yourself staring out a window, wondering about all the lives that are outside your office.
A lot of them may be heading to their respective work places and you begin to wonder if they also think about what other people outside their offices do and whether they think about anything that would challenge a routine they may have gotten themselves into that they are either unable or unwilling to escape.

Sometimes I wonder if they are only doing what they’re doing as a temporary thing or if they decided it would be better to give up on dreams that they had, hence their work lives becoming the predominant driving force behind their existence.

Maybe some of them only do it to kill time as whilst they have strong passions, they do not feel the need or the ability to follow them all the time so the job they have serves as a balance.

Sometimes I wonder if the parks in Sydney have a lot of people in them at any given time during the working week, playing, relaxing, laughing and having general fun.
Sometimes I wonder if any of them feel any envy for people staring out windows, being off the ground in a building looking at views that are otherwise difficult to see.

Maybe everyone envies everyone to an extent due to a craving for things we do not have.

Maybe I am thinking about this a bit too much.

Whilst I would stare out the window next to me more often, I am unfortunately unable to as the blinds for it a usually shut due to the amount of sunlight that gets through it, making it difficult for some people in my office to do their job.

I wouldn’t put this down to poor planning but more an unfortunate layout for my office.

Maybe the people who planned the layout had very little to work with or maybe they didn’t care.

Maybe I’ll find out one day.

Sometimes when I enter my office it is with great hesitation, wondering if I should keep doing what I’m doing currently.

When I work on a Saturday, I am usually a bit more enthused as the shift is a fair bit quieter (as there are less people working on a Saturday than any given weekday).
I can get a fair bit of work done and feel relaxed about it.

The office lights are off and natural light fills the space nicely.

Things are a lot less tense and people are more likely to be jovial.

Well, there is a fairly decent lack of seriousness during the week but it can usually be as tense as everything else happening.

During a Saturday, it is certainly much more laid back and the environment feels much better.

Although, sometimes I can’t help but stare out the window still, wondering why I still sit in an office when I could be outside and stretch my legs.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 10:48:15
Another one written at work.
I’m a bit more comfortable, desk and position-wise, than I am in bed or at my table at home.
I might do another one at work before doing more at home.

Outward Spray

Here is a picture I took on the same day as these ones.
I’ve decided to use it as my entry for The Daily Post‘s weekly photo challenge.
This theme for this week is “Inspiration“.

I find it difficult to explain why I find water and its various forms inspirational.
I do find myself fascinated by it though – especially the ocean.

I think I’ve said the following here before, but I’ll say it again (in case I’m wrong):

The ocean deserves a great amount of respect.
It is as ferocious as it is gentle.
It is as powerful as it is weak.
It brings death just as much as it brings life and it remains mostly unexplored.

I find myself drawn to it frequently.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Five-hundred Word Challenge 33: Balloons and Birds

There is currently a large pile of balloons sitting in front of me.
The only thing preventing their chaotic descent upon my very being is a small divider as they are currently consuming the space of someone’s cubicle.

I am concerned for my safety and worried that I may be buried underneath their inflated body, trapped for far longer than I could survive, maybe becoming lost under the mess.
It would be possible that my body would never be found as I imagine the balloons would end up chewing through the floor and then that would be it. There would be no me left and then gradually these balloons would reach the core of our wonderful planet, then keep going, bursting through the other side and gradually chew their way through space, being unstoppable in their journey, revealing either something we have been blinded to this whole time, or nothingness would be left in their wake.

The idea that nothingness could possibly exist in such a physical form might break our minds as we’d go made from the revelation.

I don’t know why I wrote all of that, but there really is a pile of balloons filling up the cubicle in front of me.

People get bored at work sometimes and it is important to break the tedium when there is very little to do.
Otherwise your head ends up going into itself and slowly, but surely, you end up sprouting coffee out of what would remain of your ears and the crater sitting on top of your neck would become a new haven for small birds.

A birdtopia, if you will.

Then of course it would become a birdocracy and nothing would get done.

Or maybe, just maybe they would become a fine example of how we, as people should actually function in our little society.

If your eyes somehow remained then they would produce fragrances that make you feel calm and want to relax in the slightly warm summer breeze in the shade whilst lying in a hammock in the slow afternoon.

If that all happened, you’d probably be dead but at least you’d be giving birds of the small variety somewhere to live.

And, as we all know, small birds are very good at making the most of living somewhere.

They’re also very good at economics and birdonomics.

Maybe they could work out how to prevent the balloons from careening into me and potentially preventing me from getting out of the office tonight.

I say maybe as it might be something beyond the ability of small birds.

I may just have to take the risk and hope for the best and with enough hope I may be able to get home without having to worry about the menace of all these balloons and then go to sleep and rest soundly and then not dream of balloons, or birds, or balloons eating birds or birds eating balloons.

Or birds with balloons.

Yes, I am really bored right now.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 11:18:49
Written at work and once again faster than the two other locations.
Could have been faster though.

Laser Wombat

This is a picture I made on the weekend of an image that Naa put on a shirt for me in 2009.

It is by far my favourite shirt.
It has gotten old but I still love it dearly.

I decided to make an MS Paint image of it partly because of how much I love it and mostly because I wanted to try and say thanks to Naa for it.

This is dedicated to her.

I hope you enjoy.

Embers

This is a photo that was taken shortly after the one I put up two days ago.
It is also my nineteenth entry into Leanne Cole‘s “Monochrome Madness“.

Embers can be really beautiful to see.
Their glow, whilst faint, can be quite comforting.
As with fire, they can be seen as symbolic of a lot of different things.

If I remember correctly, there were no more flames by this point and only the glow was left.

To me, it (kind of) looks like something trying to bury itself.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.
