Iron Cove

This is my twenty-second submission for Leanne Cole‘s “Monochrome Madness“.

I took this when I was cycling around Iron Cove a few weeks ago.

There’s not much to say about it.

I do like how it turned out.
I was playing around with the aperture when I took this.

The clouds look pretty interesting to me.

Yeah. Not much to say.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Five-hundred Word Challenge 38: an Old Friend

I saw an old friend of mine after work today.
It was the first time I saw them in almost five years.

For me, it was a fairly good time.

We worked together in 2006 and 2007, doing ticket sales for raffles to raise funds for charity over the phone.

We were charity telemarketers.
The place we worked for would probably take far longer to talk about than a five-hundred word challenge would allow, so I’ll save that for another time.

We got along fairly well, as people do, but after I was fired we didn’t have much contact.

The last time we saw each other was in late 2010, when I got a few friends together for drinks. Then our lives diverged for a fair while.

This friend is the one I ran into when I was walking home on Sunday.

So we caught up.
I told him most of everything that happened in my life and he told me the same for him.
We had food and a few drinks.

We organised to meet up again next week.

I’m aware of how uninteresting that sounds, but I enjoyed hanging out with my friend.
It had been far too long since we last did anything and I found myself missing him.

Our stories weren’t entirely happy, but it was good to share them.
However, it is safe to say they were full of good moments.

FRiendships come and go all the time.
Sometimes  they come back into your life unexpectedly.
Sometimes they come back into your life by your hand.

There are going to be some people who you’re going to remember for the rest of your life.
Some people will be gradually forgotten.

I think it is safe to say that this friend is someone I want to remember for the rest of my life.

He was a big part of my life and in some ways still is.

I had some of my most enjoyable times working with him.

I thought I’d have more to say, but I don’t.

It’s not necessary to get into the details of what we talked about.

I’m glad he is back in my life.

Sadly, our lives are going to diverge again quite shortly, but I am going to make more of an effort to remain in contact than I previously had.

Friendships are a lot like friendships.

Well, I really don’t have much more to say about it.

Well, not at this current point in time.

Maybe I’ll have more to say at another point in the future, but for now I really don’t and I don’t know how to fill the rest of this post other than using obvious filler.

But will filler save the day or will it become too full for its own good?

That is both an amazingly unimportant question and a pointless question.

In this case, it’s taking up words and that’s the main thing.

Anyway, with that being said, I think I’m going to aim to sleep.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 16:52:11
Written in bed.
I struggled a fair bit with this one as I didn’t know how to write about it.
I don’t think I completely succeeded but at least I was able to get something typed.

Five-hundred Word Challenge 37: Parts of my Weekend

I’ve had to force myself to write tonight as it’s been a week since I put a challenge here (or anything other than a post that includes a photo of some kind), and if I don’t write my physical being will be absorbed by my head-space and I’ll be fighting creatures from the unknown whilst riding a giant prawn into space and beyond to obtain some sort of relaxing tea that will stop all the various apparatus trying to sell me condolences in bulk.

As you have probably already guessed, despite my forcing myself to write, I don’t know what to write about.

Surprising, I know.

On Saturday I played guitar and did a bit of recording.
Only brief ideas to flesh out at a later date.
I liked most of them but they need some really serious work.

Anyway, before I got to recording, I was playing along to various songs I like.
Sometimes when I play, I can get very physical, doing a lot of headbanging and dancing.

I did that for a bit too long and woke up on Sunday with a sore neck.
I’m still a bit sore right now.

I don’t mind too much as it’s part of who I am and how I express myself.
Music is as physical as it is not, after all.

I just find the pain to be a bit of a drag.

Oh well.

Yesterday I went bushwalking in the morning.
After that I headed straight to a place (I think it was a converted factory) to play Last Night on Earth, a fairly fun board game.
Then after that I headed to a movie night being held at a friend’s place.

I was hoping to be able to head home and have a shower between bushwalking and Last Night on Earth, but alas, it was not to be.

Anyway, I didn’t see any films.

A friend and I ordered food as we weren’t entirely interested in seeing the first film.
I thought it would be a good idea to eat and then watch.
After ordering, we sat around and talked for a while until food arrived.
It came a few minutes before the first film finished.

I thought it was funny due to the timing.

I left shorty after as it was getting late into the evening and I had to go to work today.

As I was heading home I ran into a friend I hadn’t seen for about four years.

We had a very brief chat, then went our separate ways.
It was good to see him again as I enjoyed hanging with him a fair bit.

Eventually I reached home and went to sleep shortly after and woke up the latest I’ve woken up in a while: six A.M.

I did wake up a bit later on Saturday and Sunday but I was up quite late, so I don’t feel they count.

Well, it looks like I was able to write something after all.

Hooray.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 14:07:12.
Written in bed again.
Still slower than at work.
Only a few more tests I shall do.

Herbert

This is Herbert.
I’ll talk about Herbert in another post.
For now, here are two photos I took of Herbert.

This is my submission for The Daily Post‘s photo challenge, with this week having the theme of “Creepy“.

I hope you enjoy.

Bursts of Light

Here are some more pictures from Tuesday morning.

I won’t say how I took these looking the way they do as it’s fairly mundane and I want to pretend that it’s a great secret I would be revealing.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

A Giant Chicken Attacking a Zeppelin

It would probably be more accurate to say it is about to attack a zeppelin.

The idea to do make this popped into my head as my mind was wandering.

I used one of my hands as a model to draw the feet as I was unable to find any images of chicken feet at the angle I wanted.
The lightning was a suggestion from a work colleague.

Looking at this has made me realise that the zeppelin doesn’t stand a chance.

I started it in early July (somewhere around the eighth) and finished it today (I worked on it sporadically).

I hope you enjoy.

Burst Pipe

Here is a picture I took on Friday last week whilst I was crossing Sydney Harbour Bridge.
It’s not too often I get to see something like this so visibly (normally it’ll just be a spray or water rising from a crack or hole).

A lot of water was spraying from the clamps (I think they’re clamps but I could be wrong), so they must have failed.

It’s interesting to see the water come out misty, shooting out with pressure and leaking heavily from the pipe all at once.

Despite having many other pictures I wanted to use, I’ve made this is my twenty-first entry into Leanne Cole‘s “Monochrome Madness” as I like it quite a lot.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Tuesday Sunrise

This morning I decided it would be better not to take my camera with me.

It was a silly idea.

The first picture was when I realised I should have taken my camera with me. I was on Pyrmont Bridge at the time.

The second was taken with the aperture lowered so the red in the sky would have greater visibility. I was on Sydney Hsrbour Bridge by this point.

The rest have had various effects and aperture adjustments applied.

I think that these photos show that, despite them all being of the same thing, how they feel can change when seen differently.

I also think I didn’t need to write that.

On a side note, I was able to walk from home to Milsons Point in fifty-five minutes (taking into account the six minutes I spent taking photos).
Supposedly it was meant to take around an hour-and-nine minutes.

Anyway,  I hope you enjoy.

Morning Moon

Here are two pictures I took near the start of my cycle to the bridge I photographed.

As soon as I saw the moon I had to stop to get pictures.
I felt that the way the clouds were positioned, as well as the blue of the sky made it look similar to a painting.
I found it surprising and amazing.
I also felt lucky I was able to see this.

I don’t have anything else to say about these pictures.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-hundred Word Challenge 36: Not Much to go on

I’ve been sitting here for about thirty minutes now, not knowing what to write.
I had an idea I got part of the way through but I ran into a brick wall of sorts.

I’ll see if I can complete it now though.

This morning I walked to the Queen Victoria Building to catch a bus to work.
The sun hadn’t risen yet, so it was quite dark for most of the walk.

When the bus was crossing the Sydney Harbour Bridge, I looked out to the horizon and saw that it was quite orange.

The lining of one of the clouds was glowing bright red.

It was quite beautiful to see.

Sometimes walking in the morning can be difficult.
My mind will race about things that shouldn’t currently matter.
Sometimes I’ll be walking with a blank stare.
Sometimes I’ll be walking as though I had just received horrible news and need to walk to get some air.

I did have something fairly bad happen recently.

Well, it’s not the worst thing that could have happened and it is something I should have seen coming, but such is life.
Whilst it’s not something I’m going to discuss right now, maybe it’s the reason why I’ll be walking with a blank stare or as though I’ve received horrible news.

Sometimes I feel rather worn out but by the time the walk is over, I’ll feel much better.

Tomorrow morning I’m planning to get up rather early and walk all the way from home to Milsons Point.

It will probably take around an hour but I think it is going to be worth it.

Even if it isn’t the morning, I tend to do some pretty serious thinking when I walk, so…

I didn’t have a way to finish that sentence.

It’s now been about an hour.

I took a break to go surfing the internet.

It was an aimless, hollow pursuit that brought me nothing, thus not enriching my life in any way.

So, where was I?

I would like to see the sunrise in a location not surrounded by buildings.
I would like to be there, waiting for it to come up.

I would like to see it rise above the ocean, casting its light over everything and listening to the waves roll in.

I think it would be a relaxing experience.

I really don’t have much to go on tonight.

I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned this before, but I want to drive around Australia.
I would see parts of Australia, but that wouldn’t be the reason as to why I would drive.
I want to drive around Australia as I want to do some very serious thinking about who I am and what I’ve experienced in life so far as well as where my life is going.

I’m not questioning who I am, but rather thinking about my being me.

It wouldn’t be the most pleasant experience, but it is one that would have great moments.

I hope.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 14:56:92
Written in bed.
Faster than I expected.
Instead of taking a break part of the way through, I should have kept writing and let it flow more.

Oh well.
