A Smear in the Gap

A long, lazy day so here’s a twilight photo.

This one I mostly like for the colour and the framing. There isn’t much else to say really.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 1062: Rambling and Mess

A heat washes away and makes room for a cool breeze that carries a cool air into areas that are hot that then become cool due to the lowered temperature. It’s a nice thing as they say.

Right now I am sweating and soon I will not be sweating. I wonder if there are other sweating out there. Maybe there are and maybe there are not; I do not know, but I would like to believe that an educated guess would suggest that there are other people out there who happen to be sweating at this particular time. If there are not, then I am incorrect and I am happy to accept that.

Soon it will be dark and with the dark comes the night and with the night comes the silhouettes and objects no longer seem like what they are. It’s a thing that must be dealt with but it is dealt with in a way that implies a lack of interest from some, and a great deal of interest from others. Such is the way of the things that are dealt with when it comes to the evening.

What am I going on about here? Where am I going with this? There are things that I need to deal with right now. I have obligations that I need to nip in the bud. However, I am writing this rambling mess and it is being written in a manner that implies both rambling and mess. Such is the way of things, I suppose.

Maybe instead of implying those I should start implying genius and concise. Technically there isn’t much wrong with either rambling or having a mess, but those are two things I don’t necessarily want top put forward… or maybe I do. There is no telling at this particular juncture in time, but perhaps at the next one all will be revealed and it will be revealed that a rambling mess of messy proportions is what I’ve been aiming for this whole time, and you’d never know until that point.

Of course if that really is the case, then that would be telling right now. However, if it was not the case, that would also be telling right now and, quite frankly, I feel it is better to not make any revelations at this stage. There is no telling as to what will happen if I do and I don’t want to risk the shock becoming so overwhelming that there is no turning around. I don’t want to create a situation where the old world that was known is no longer known. I want to make sure that there is no changing of the world.

Or maybe I do.

Anyway, I’m sure that at some stage all of this will be worked out and then what needs to be revealed shall be revealed and all will be as it should be. Finally all the pieces will fit and then there will be a great shrugging of the shoulders.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 05:22:04

I feel as though the further I went with this, the closer I came to writing something that could be construed as interesting. Alas, we’ll never know if that was going to be the case.

Akari Kaida and Yoshino Aoki: Sandy Sound

One listen for this one.

I think I was looking to try and capture a sense of scene, but I don’t quite think I pulled it off if I am to be honest. I think there’s a description of the song that’s a bit aimless and I think I could’ve done much better.

Akira Kaida (海田 明里) and Yoshino Aoki’s (青木佳乃) “Sandy Sound” is from Breath of Fire III Sound Collection, the soundtrack for Breath of Fire III. However, I believe that before the release of that soundtrack, it was first included on Breath of Fire Original Soundtrack Special Box, a collection of all the music (as far as I’m aware) of the Breath of Fire Series. There is a soundtrack album called Breath of Fire III: Original Soundtrack that was released at some point around the time of Breath of Fire III‘s release but it was a selection of songs from the game rather than the whole soundtrack.

I hope you enjoy.

Dry wind howls as light percussion fades in. Soon other instrumentation comes in and cycles around the percussion, matching and building upon it.

What sounds like some sort of keys plays steady with the rhythm, stepping and striking and moving with the rhythm. A sense of swing comes in at parts but the focus is on the dry, blowing sound. An atmosphere stretches out as keys circle each other.

The keys fade out, leaving the gentle percussion and the wind to play out. Then suddenly the keys return, playing along, forming melody, playing rhythmically. The dryness remains and the music flows as a journey continues across dunes and throughout a vast landscape, though once more it fades away and once more it leaves percussion and blowing wind, and once more the keys return, though with little time as they return at the song’s end.

Twilight Sky

This was one of the last few photos I took last year. There was a strong sunset one one particular day and so I took photos.

I really like how strong the colour came through on this one, as well as the sense of fading that it has. It’s one last burst of colour, but still dulled. I also think the clouds work with the colour, but mostly due to them not quite looking like clouds, providing a textured feel to the sky that I find interesting.

Not sure why I included it, but I also like the part of the house in the corner.

This is my submission into the one hundred-and-eightieth Lens-Artists Photo Challenge.

The theme for this one is “Favorite Photos of 2021“.

This is one of my favourite photos of those I took last year, hence it being my submission.

The challenge is hosted by four people and cycles weekly:

Week 1 – Patti

Week 2 – Ann-Christine aka Leya

Week 3 – Amy

Week 4 – Tina

This one is curated by Amy. The next one is (as far as I’m aware) curated by Tina.

This year three people are joining the Lens-Artists team:

Sofia Alves of  Photographias

Anne Sandler of Slow Shutter Speed

John Steiner of Journeys with Johnbo

It’ll be fun to see how they add to the challenges.

I recommend participating in the challenges. They’re enjoyable and allow room for interpretation of the theme without straying too far. If you don’t participate, then I recommend that you at least check out what others of the Lens-Artists community are submitting.

I hope you enjoy.

King Crimson: The Sheltering Sky

This was written over one listen.

I mostly wanted to focus on describing the song and I kind of did that, but I don’t think it makes for interesting writing.

King Crimson’s “The Sheltering Sky” is from Discipline.

I hope you enjoy.

Percussion plays gentle and rolls forward, seemingly like stepping outward. Soon guitar fades in, playing lightly. Bass joins in and steps carefully. Another sound, likely guitar plays on top of the gentle rhythm. There is space and the secondary guitar squeals away. It seems intentionally against what is happening, and yet it still seems to fit in perfectly.

The secondary guitar gets more frenzied and panicked as the other instruments remain calm. Soon a bit more space comes forward and the instruments start building toward something. The bass drops away, the percussion seems to become steadier.

Atmospheric sounds come forward and the bass returns, drawing out. More sounds stretch and lengthen. The secondary guitar returns and soars on above, seemingly less panicked. All seem to be looking to reach and ascend toward something and the sounds express a sense of the grandness and beauty. They are rich in texture as they expand without bursting into excess, for the sounds remain dry and calm where they are meant to feel calm.

They continue on with a contrast between the grounded and the floating, and a scene of a desert underneath a massive expanse comes forward, brightly lit, though still calm. Almost serene, or at least idealised as serene.

Slowly the music seems to settle to some extent and return to something closer to its earlier phases. The bass continues to elongate as the guitars return. The percussion, of course, remains steady and gentle. Soon, however, they pull back, as does the bass, leaving the percussion to play out until the song’s end.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 1061: Throwing at the Wall

And so we reach the end of another day and the end really is not actually here yet, but it soon will be. I also need to think about what it is that I can throw at the wall and hope that it sticks, but I’ve got nothing.

I’ve nothing at the moment and, to be honest, that’s okay. It could be worse, It could be better, but it could be worse. This isn’t a bad thing to have at the moment. I am relaxing and that’s alright, but I need ideas. I need something that will drive the brain into a frenzy so I can come up with things that I could not think of before.

There is a fly on the ceiling, but it is giving me nothing at the moment so therefore I will ignore it. I don’t care that it is walking back and forth and I don’t care that it is looking for something.

Maybe it is actually a spider. Don’t want to find out right now.

So anyway, I’m sitting here and I’ve nothing. I could talk about the pattern on the desk that I sue to write all of this crap, but I don’t want to talk about that. I don’t know what I want to talk about, but I do know that if I keep on going eventually something will come forward and when that thing comes forward I will find out as to what it is that I will be writing about and then when that happens something something and so on and so forth.

Maybe I should not be writing right now and instead I should just relax for a while. Take it easy, do something easy and some other stuff too. Read a book. Think about life. Breathe for a while. There are so many options and why should I limit myself to just a few? I could limit myself to many and then go from there and see where everything leads.

That is a good idea, but it is also a bad idea. Also, my wrist hurts and so I should probably slow down a little but right now I feel as though I am on a roll and so I will keep on rolling as that is what I want to do. I want to keep on rolling and keep on going, but even then perhaps this is better stopped here rather than there. I think this may have gone on for far too long. There are other things to worry about too and maybe those things involve looking out my window and looking at the lawn and wondering as to why it keeps on growing despite all my scowling and howling at it.

Then again, maybe there are other things that I need to think about here, but I won’t think about those right now as I need to stop staring at the spider up on the ceiling, though maybe I don’t want to. Not sure.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 04:59:04

This isn’t great. It’s really bad.
I think I waited too long to write today.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 1060: Porcelain Throne

Since yesterday morning I’ve had a rather unpleasant time, let me tell you.

I have spent a lot of time in the bathroom and I do not want to spend another minute there, but alas, soon I will have to return. Soon I will be returning to my porcelain throne and once more I will be performing an outpouring for which I really do not want to do.

I’m done. I’m over it. I need this to stop. It is beyond a joke at this point.

I want to cry. I want to cry and curl up into a fetal position and forget about everything and just cry for a while. I’m in pain and I’m done with this continuing dance between the struggle to stop going to the toilet and the struggle to stop feeling pain.

It is ongoing and it is unnecessary. Some might say that it is verbose and what I would have to say to that is that I agree. This is a verbose drama that has gone on for far too long and all I wish for at this stage is for the dancing to stop. I want all to come to rest and I want to be able to rest. I don’t want to be doing this anymore.

I feel as though since yesterday I have now lived more than a thousand lives. It has been a short time, but so much has happened and so much has passed, and it seems like none of this will abate any time soon. Right now I’m sitting here and I am okay, but soon I will have to return to the bathroom for another round of punishment and I don’t know if I can take any more of this.

I don’t know if I have anything left in me to keep on going through this process of emptying. However, I do know that I don’t have much, if any say in the matter. If it keeps on going, then I am going to have to keep on experiencing it. I can try to fight, but there is only so much that I can do.

At this point I can only imagine that this will eventually let up and I will be freed from this ongoing torture and finally be allowed to resume my getting on with my life. I hope this happens sooner rather than later, for soon I will start passing memories, hopes and desires and then what will I be? Will I be anything other than an empty husk, left to stare off into nothingness, devoid of will or desire or anything resembling personality. It will all be gone, but the toilet will remain eternal. Its familiarity will be a warm reminder of vague feelings of days long past and yet, try as I might, I will never be able to figure those out.

They will be lost to time, having long been flushed into the piping and washed out to some distant location.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 07:06:21

Probably a bit too dramatic, but I feel it works.

Obscuring Cloud Cover

Here’s a photo I took at roughly the same time as these ones.

I like how there’s a sense of detail whilst also a sense of ambiguity to this one.
You can see what is behind the clouds, but you can’t quite make out its full shape and so there’s a bit of work to fill in the missing detail.

I hope you enjoy.

Junya Nakano: The Void

This was written over two listens about forty minutes apart.
I’m not sure as to why the large gap and I don’t think it helped.

I found writing about this song difficult and I think that may be due to being really tired.
I tried to just write about the song and not focus on anything in particular. Part of the way through I had the idea to try and focus more on imagery, but then I kind of switched to review mode.

Junya Nakano’s (仲野順也) “The Void” (“霧海“) is from Final Fantasy X Original Soundtrack which, as it turns out, is the soundtrack for Final Fantasy X. Whilst Nobuo Uematsu composed most of the game’s songs, both Junya Nakano and Masashi Hamauzu (浜渦 正志) made great contributions.

I hope you enjoy.

Light percussion among a muted, drawn out note. It shifts in pitch as the percussion continues on. Almost seeming like drops stretching out. It drops back down and repeats and the percussion keeps on building, gaining a strong presence whilst remaining muted. It becomes less calm and more ominous.

However, there remains a sense of calm. Slowly the song proceeds whilst focusing on the two elements. The atmosphere remains thick, though it also remains airy. The sounds move carefully almost and seem to have a ruminating quality to them as they move forward. Melody is in there but it is subtle and the focus remains on the rhythm and how it can convey the mood and atmosphere.

Gradually sounds fade out and fade away as the music strips back, returning to a calmer state as the song ends.

A Poem About Watching Clouds

Just some more rushed stuff.
I had the idea probably about a minute before I started writing.
Not sure if jumping into this so quickly was a good idea or not, but, well, I did, so yeah.

I hope you enjoy.

Among the grass I rest my head
In the field is where I lie
My sight falls on the sky above
Watching shapes shift and move

The shapes drift fast and slow
They seem formless and distinct
From them comes a sense of calm
And aimlessness I can embrace

From below I drift with the shapes
I flow among them upon air currents
Like them I become formless
And shift shape as I move
