Five-Hundred Word Challenge 1049: Sounds of Crickets

Alright, so it is hot and I’m itchy but that is not what I am going to go on about this evening. Rather, instead this is just the introduction and I’ve written similar stuff to this before, so instead of that I think I will appreciate the night which is outside of this window which is right next to me. I can see out the window and I can see things.

There is a stillness. There is not a silence. The sounds of crickets can be heard and summer almost feels like it really is here. Even though the past two days have been particularly warm, hearing the sounds of insects right now makes this feel more like summer is arriving and is here. However, the breeze is cool and it is helping keep the place cool. I guess that’s how it works, or something.

Tonight is a time to relax and unwind, for the week ahead is going to be heavy. The week ahead is going to be intense and I need to be ready to take it on and work through it. Money and all that.

I listen to the sounds. I listen to the chirping and how it is far more rhythmic than it would usually appear… maybe… and I think about how there is a sort of music outside. Maybe it can be seen as tuneless noise, but there certainly is a tune and a melody coming forward. Maybe it is more percussive in nature, but it still has something to it. It still has musical qualities that can be brought forward and translated so as to be better understood, and in a way that’s beautiful. In a way that carries something. That carries meaning and message and… well, of course it does, and it’s likely all about procreation, but still, it’s special and it’s beautiful. It’s a great thing to hear. Hearing it means that there are insects about and if there are insects about there are other creatures. It means that there’s some sort of ecosystem out there that is continuing on and it’s something that’s good as it means biodiversity is greater. It means an area is healthier than without these things, and it’s something that we need to protect.

There are a lot of things we need to protect and we can do most, if not all of them. It’s something we need to think about and take more action on, and we need to do our best. A healthy environment is a strong environment and we can all do so much more to protect and rejuvenate, so we should do what we can.

Summer is not a season I’m fond of, but it would be deeply upsetting to not be able to hear the sounds of summer due to inaction. It would be something pretty distressing, I think. These sounds are, in a way, beautiful. To lose them would be a great mistake, and a great failing, if we didn’t bother.

Slow and I wasn’t expecting to get heavy, but sometimes that’s just what happens.

Marked Face

More rock stuff.

This one I like in part due to the texture and shift in colour brought on my moisture, and in part due to how you can see marks both from weathering and mining.

There’s a sense of history to this rock face and it’s nice to see that some organisms are on it, buy it’s also a bit of a harsh scene. Mining is important, but it can certainly do a bit of damage.

I hope you enjoy.

A Poem About Hot Weather

I feel as though I had something interesting when I first started this.
Not necessarily good, but interesting.
I feel I dropped the ball though. Fatigue hit hard.

I hope you enjoy.

Cooler times swept away
By heat announcing itself
Spreading thick, yet remaining thin
Seemingly holding a firm grasp

Dry it feels, yet the air is heavy
And through it heat flows forward
Cooler times are swept away
As the heat permeates

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 1048: Rain has Gone

The rain has gone, as well as the cold. It is now hot. We are in the world of hot and it remains hot and will remain forever hot, such as it shall forever be, or something.

It won’t, but that is not dramatic enough and I’m trying to instill a sense of drama into what it is that I am writing here, so therefore the drama exists and in existing it appears as something that is now a part of this writing and so all continues on without any sense of abatement. All flows toward avoiding the heat in the best way possible, but I don’t know what way that way is and so I can only hope for the best.

So anyway, I’m hoping for a cool breeze to blow the heat away, but I don’t think that’s going to happen; not for a while, at least, for it will take a lengthy breeze and if not, then at least a few breezes over a short period of time. The heat is not fun, but it is something I’ve got to deal with at the moment and I will persevere, as there is no choice. Still, I can’t help but hope for it to go away sooner rather than later.

Oh, what a fate and all that stuff, but I’ll survive. Sure, I can sit here and keep on whinging, and maybe I will do just that. However, for now I will think of other things to do, but that also is something else to do and I don’t know if that is something that I should do. I don’t know if I should actually take any action as taking action will mean that I feel the weather more and I don’t want to feel it more. I want to feel it less. I need to move as little as possible and all of these things, but it’s going to get worse as summer is here and I want summer to go away, or at least be a bit of a cool summer. Sitting here and sweating profusely is something I don’t like doing much and so… yeah.

Where was I going with this?

So I think that, in conclusion, I need to make sure that I get through this heat as there are things to do and I need to be active and get the things done and then once they are done I will move toward other things, but that’s not out of the ordinary. However, I won’t do any writing about it, even though I will, and then I will find a way to talk about other things, even though I won’t, and the day will go on and I’ll be at the end of it and then once I am at the end of it I think I will take a bit of a nap as I need sleep at some point, but this has nothing to do with anything so I’ll now stop.

This was a real struggle and I think it was due to overthinking. I should’ve thought less about what I was writing, I think. Just let it all flow out.

Manufactured Formation

More geological stuff, but this time with a bit of distance.
Feels more like a landscape and I guess that is mostly due to this photo being one of a landscape. Not necessarily a large amount of land, but an area of land nonetheless.

This almost feels like it is in an arid location, but it is not.
Actually maybe it is a small pocket of arid land, but I don’t think it is as this is mostly rock by the ocean and there’s a fair bit of vegetation in the area, though not much in this shot.

The rock appears jagged and cut, and bits of it lying about almost feels like some sort of material thrown out as waste. The formation in the distance gives an idea of how heavily this area was mined, though not a strong one as this is only a small portion of the area.

This is my submission into Leanne Cole‘s “Monochrome Madness” for this week.
I suggest checking out Leanne’s photography, as well as checking out what other people submit.

A lot of what people are submitting will likely end up here.

I hope you enjoy.

Looking to the City

A photo taken from the same location as the last one, but this one shows more of the city.
Along with the cloud cover, the city creates a bit of a gloomy feel, I think.
Also a layered feel.

This is my submission into the one hundred-and-seventy-eighth Lens-Artists Photo Challenge.

The theme for this one is “You Choose“.

This isn’t exactly what one might describe as a celebratory photo, but that I am now able to once more and head out to take photos like this is something I feel makes this somewhat-celebratory.

The challenge is hosted by four people and cycles weekly:

Week 1 – Patti

Week 2 – Ann-Christine aka Leya

Week 3 – Amy

Week 4 – Tina

This one is curated by Tina. The next one is curated by Patti.

I recommend participating in the challenges. They’re enjoyable and allow room for interpretation of the theme without straying too far. If you don’t participate, then I recommend that you at least check out what others of the Lens-Artists community are submitting.

I hope you enjoy.

A Poem About Watching Meters

This was written faster than I usually write these, but I just wanted to scribble down what I could and not think about how it came across.

This isn’t anything special and it’s not about anything particularly great, but I have spent a good part of the day watching a meter which has led to a day feeling longer than I’d hoped. I’ve had to as I need to track some data and so a long day of watching a meter whilst doing other things. Oh well.

I hope you enjoy.

Watching meters stay low
Desiring them to go high
There is little I can do
Other than watch them struggle

I see them go where I desire
Only for brief periods
For the meters measure
A weakened state

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 1047: In The Office

Well, I am once more alone in the office and once more that is fine by me. Got a bit of a drive ahead of me, but that is mostly tomorrow. Right now it is today and I sit here and I listen to the music that comes out from the speakers of my computer and I sit here and bang away on the keyboard. Such is the way of things and such is the way of what I am currently doing.

Perhaps instead of doing so what I should really do is just get on with things and start working on heading home. I have a long day ahead tomorrow but I don’t want to think about it just yet. There are other things to think about and I will think about those as they happen, or something. Perhaps I won’t and perhaps I will use the word “perhaps” multiple times in short periods so as to make myself sound smart.

I don’t know as to what it is that I can write right now, but I know that I have words that I want to put forward and express in a way that makes things seem like they are things that make sense in a way that makes sense. I think that is what I’m trying to say, but I don’t really know what it is that I am trying to say.

I think that I’ve got nothing right now, but that’s okay. Sometimes it is better to be aware that you’ve got nothing to go on about than it is to pretend that you have all the answers. Pretending is far, far worse than going on about things that don’t matter, though perhaps they do matter when seen in the right context at the right time of year.

Still no idea as to what I am going on about, but I am sure that if I keep on going I will eventually get there. I will be able to make things clear and as they become clear they will manifest in a way that makes sense. The I will be able to get everything that I want to get across and so the journey toward new sounds and new sights will continue in a manner that means that all is unimpeded. At least, that is what I hope.

Now that that is all said I need to race to the end and get this all wrapped up neatly. I need to make sure that all of this makes sense and it probably does, but I will pretend that it doesn’t as sometimes it is more fun that way. That said, I really should focus on leaving the office soon as I need to get going and tomorrow is a big day full of things that I need to tackle in a precise order, and I don’t know if I will be able to get all of tomorrow done in one day, but I’m going to try anyway.

Not great and not sure what I was trying to convey.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 1046: Out a Window

So goes the day and the day stretches out and all of that. I look out a window and in looking out that window I see a world that I could not see before, for the room I am in has changed and in that change there are other things that have changed and all of that stuff that goes on and so on and so forth.

I feel as though I am going slow, though it is likely that I am not going slow and I merely feel as though I am going slow. This is a bit of a thing to not worry about though as it does not matter as to how fast or slow I go. I have a new window and that is what matters at the moment and seeing as that is what matters at the moment I will talk about that matter.

I look outside this window and I can see fences and walls, and I can see trees and plants. There is more light and there is more space out there and it is much more pleasant. There is no need to have the light on in this room whilst working as there is enough light in here, and so there is less power being used whilst working. It’s a good thing, I think.

sometimes I wonder about things and maybe having this window will allow me to wonder more rather than less. It’s something I probably don’t need to think too much about, but I am going to think about it regardless as it is something that I want to think about right now, but perhaps thinking about wondering is something not worth doing at the present moment. Perhaps there are other things worth thinking about and thinking about this thing is thinking about something that is not worth think as it’s too referential to the self, or something.

It’s a sunny day outside and in a few ways that makes me feel a little less stressed as it’s just nice to see a change in the weather. At the same time I feel as though the rain is something to be missed right now. Seeing the sun out makes me think of the heat and and all the issues with water Australia has, and perhaps whilst it is good to be reminded of that, it’s something that, speaking strictly personally, I generally remain aware of even when it is raining a fair bit, so… yeah.

Today has been a bit of a ride, but it has been a smooth ride and for that I am grateful. There’s a gentle breeze and it seems peaceful, and that provides a brief respite from everything that weighs me down. Soon I’ll have to think about other things, but right now this is all okay and it being all okay gives me a small amount of relief that carries onward throughout whatever it is that remains of the afternoon, and hopefully also the evening.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 05:43:71

Easy, lazy write. Probably a bit too much dullness, but it’s a dull and pleasant day.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 1045: Stress Builds Up

And so it goes that stress builds up and then releases and the whole time you feel like a shitty person as you realised you fucked up pretty badly, but life goes on and you do your best to make a shitty situation better and make amends for the fucking up.

Sometimes when you try to do what you think is the best thing you get a little too focused on things and you set yourself up for a lot of stress and uncertainty. I managed to do that by focusing on one thing too much and have now put myself and my partner into a rather tight spot. Such is life, as they say. You persevere; you do what you can and you keep on powering on where you can. At the moment there’s a lot of trying to stay on top of things and trying to power on, but I cannot deny that I’m rather stressed out.

I’d like to say it’s not entirely my fault, but perhaps it is due to not spreading out enough. I won’t get into the details of it, but it is fair to say that what I’ve done is far, far more boring than I’m making it sound and the issue is that we’re gonna have to spend a fair bit of money which may end up overtaking our income in a month or so. We’re not sure yet and we’re hoping that we avoid this, but if it happens that’s a bridge we need to cross.

I don’t really know what else there is to say. I fucked up and I put us in a bad spot by fucking up. There’s no debt, thankfully, but we’re still going to have to spend money and that’s going to be the difficult part. Roof over head and all that.

It comes down to the almighty “We’ll see what happens”, but of course I need to include that we’ll persevere somehow. I’ve been through shitty situations and I’ve been through good ones too, and I am hoping that this all ends up being a great big nothing that only leads to a bit of high stress for a short period of time and nothing else. That is always the hope, but you never know with these things and as often and expected as it is, things can come fast and en masse, but they can also come fast and scattered.

Of course it’s all an adventure of sorts and you work to overcome adversity, but it’s tiring and I’m exhausted at this stage. I keep on going and so I keep on trying, but I need to make sure to not be so focused on one thing to help us in our situation as being singularly focused hasn’t helped thus far and I doubt it will help down the track.

Anyway, that’s my rambling done for tonight. I’m going to take it easy for the rest of the evening, as I feel it’s needed.
