Motoi Sakuraba: We Form in Crystals

I’ve wanted to write about this one for a while, but  kept on forgetting about it.

It’s an interesting song. Very straightforward in ways, but also carries an air of mystery, so to speak.

This was written over one listen. I just went with whatever came to mind which led to this being looser than most of the writings on other songs I’ve done. Oh well.

Motoi Sakuraba’s (桜庭 統) “We Form in Crystals” is from Star Ocean: The Second Story Original Soundtrack, the soundtrack for Star Ocean The Second Story.

I hope you enjoy.

Fading in with sound seemingly urging. Perhaps pleading. Soon bass comes in, tender, gentle, almost fragile. Among the sound strings draw out, increasing tension and drama. Percussion remains sparse, though no less present.

A slight shift and the strings start guiding the melody. Bass follows. Eventually vocals come in as the melody shifts once more. The song continues its motion and movement, almost dancing but not quite. Hovering. The melody remains calm and gentle, and perhaps welcoming, but it also keeps that tension and drama going.

As the instruments seem as though they are going to release into one moment, much pulls back and what remains reinforces the main patterns. Something akin to a violin comes in and flutters, rises and falls, speeds and slows. It seems to be looking for something, though it follows the eerie space that the song now inhibits. Almost otherworldly.

The song steps back a little more, percussion changes shape. The memory of a familiar sound comes in. Muted, muffled, but still distinct as something from before. The violin continues its search and movement. Percussion picks up back to what it was before and the instruments seem to be building once more. However, it does not last. The music seems to pull back more, winding down. A different memory comes in, forming a rhythmic repetition, but gradually all fades out as the song ends.

A Poem About More Back Pain

I’ve been hunched over for too long and thus my back now hurts, hence this quick and sloppy writing about back pain.

I hope you enjoy.

Curving all day
In a single space
A sensation runs upward
As it stretches downward

It seizes upon
Given opportunity
And spreads with ease
Due to obliviousness

It is noticed
Far too late
And so work once more
Stops for the day

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 990: Bettering the Things

Alright, so it has been a long day and I’m leaving everything to the last proverbial minute once more. It’s not a good way to go about things, let me tell you, but I do it sometimes and sometimes I do it a lot, and sometimes that’s just the way that things go. Still, there are better ways to go about things and it is up to me to go about those things in a better way.

In the lives of others it is up to them to go about things in a better way in the way that they can go about being better about those things. However, right now that is not what I am trying to focus on, and I’m also trying to not focus on saying that these are the things of which I am trying not to focus on. There are other things of which I am trying to focus on and they will get my focus until they no longer do get my focus, but for now I need to try and do better at bettering the things of which need bettering through the act of me being better at being better at bettering those things.

Now that that is out of the way I can focus on the other things. However, I know not how to cast my focus in this particular situation as I’ve already stretched thin and now need to get into a position where I no longer am scratching. I need to compress once more and then resume being my compressed self so I can move onto not being stretched thin and therefore might be able to find the depth and meaning that I so desire to find on a daily basis. Perhaps I will not find it here, but I am sure that with a bit of work I can get into a position where I do eventually find it.

There may be some journeying to reach that goal, but journeying is not what I want to do at the moment. What I want to do is just have it all happen and I want to be able to sit here and do other things whilst this thing happens, so therefore I want to be able to multitask without putting in the effort required to multitask.

It’s a hard life.

So anyway, the thing is that in order to be able to do this, I’d need to do a lot of setting up in order to make sure that everything is as good and ready as it can be, but then I’d also need to make sure that it all would be better than just perfunctory, and now that I think about it, there is no way that I can avoid effort, so really I should just knuckle down and do the thing and out in the effort and then get to the end of all of this content in the knowledge that I managed to better the thing.

It felt quick and it came out easy.

Silly stuff, but it was fun.

Quiet Westward View

Just a quiet view from a car park in Sydney Olympic Park.

A lot of vegetation, or at least it appears as though there’s a lot of vegetation here and that’s somewhat okay. It makes things look better than they are.

Interestingly enough Parramatta is what is visible in the distance.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 989: Don’t Expect

Cold is the morning but warm is the heart and all that other stuff that makes for a good introduction that I won’t get into at this particular moment as all I’m doing is looking to create the introduction, from which I will then go elsewhere.

I gotta get into a bit of a rush at the moment though as I just realised that time is rather limited at the moment, so do not expect this to be as coherent as I would like. In fact, maybe don’t expect this to be as coherent as you would like.

It also is good to not expect full sentences, or even sentences at all. This is best read with no expectations, though you may still be disappointed as there is a chance that I will fumble the whole thing and in that fumbling the whole thing will collapse in on itself and then there will be nothing left other than the mess that I won’t bother to clean up as I don’t have the time to do so, but really I just can’t be bothered.

Do not expect this bit of writing to be informative in any way, shape or form as it will not do that. It will instead take information away and then you will lose the information. That’s right; it won’t have you share information with it, but instead literally take the information that you have away from you and then you’ll never get it back, which is rather unfortunate, but what can you do in a situation such as this? Not my fault, or something.

Don’t expect any great revelation, for there will be none. Nothing will be revealed and in that lack of revealing nothing will come to fruition. It will be dull, insipid and merely go for a length, then stop. No surprises to be found here and that’s just the way that it will have to be for the time being, for the writing needs to lack more and it will, and that’s fine at the moment. Probably shouldn’t be fine, but it is and that’s just the way that it will be. Such is the way of things.

However, in saying all of this, I can confirm that some of this will contain vowels and there may also be some other things that will be contained within the writing, but that’s all that can be offered at the moment, for everything else has gone to lunch and then the lunch turned into an extended holiday, so there’s quite little to run off here and so therefore there can be no expectation of anything until the holidays run out and all are forced to return to earn more holiday so that another holiday can be taken, leading to some sort of cycle of the vicious variety, trapping all within its firm grasp and leaving no victories without the tears of tragedy befalling those that struggled in the fight for that little bit more annual leave.

This was fun to write. It came forward really easily and just flowed.
Not necessarily an enjoyable read, but at least it was an easy write.

“Quack”

This was done on Wednesday last week.
It was drawn quickly. Maybe over ten minutes. Possibly fifteen.
I planned on redoing this but ended up deciding not to as I’m content with how it appears now.

I hope you enjoy.

Rooftop Lighting

This photo was taken in July.
I think I was trying to capture a certain mood and I’m not sure if I captured it, but I do like how the space leads to a sparse feel to the image.

Probably helps that this part of the car park was empty.

This is my submission into the one hundred-and-sixty-fourth Lens-Artists Photo Challenge.

The theme for this one is “Looking Up/Down“.

I feel this image fits as I had to look (and therefore angle) upward to get the shot.

The challenge is hosted by four people and cycles weekly:

Week 1 – Patti

Week 2 – Ann-Christine aka Leya

Week 3 – Amy

Week 4 – Tina

This one is guest-curated by Sofia Alves. Patti is curating the next one.

I recommend participating in the challenges. They’re enjoyable and allow room for interpretation of the theme without straying too far. If you don’t participate, then I recommend that you at least check out what others of the Lens-Artists community are submitting.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 988: Off to the Shops

It was a fine morning. Semi-cloudless, sun bright but not blinding, low traffic; all things much appreciated when going for a walk to the shops. The only thing not appreciated at that particular time was the need to shop, for as much as necessities in life were understood as very much a part of it, there was much more of a desire to relax and take it easy. There was no want to go and purchase consumables and it very much was done with some amount of annoyance.

There was an annoyance of not being able to appreciate the day whilst lazing about. No, the morning had to be spent attending to tasks that needed some sort of completion so as to be able to keep on going, but at the end of it all it would be okay.

Or so they thought.

The day stretched long, but it was only the morning and soon it would all compress into an exciting series of moments filled with action, inaction, explosions, drama, lack of drama, and all of those other neat things that people like sometimes. However, that was yet to happen and the rest of it needed to be lived through first. This of course meant doing the shopping before anything else could happen, and before that, walking needed to be conducted so as to be able to complete the task at hand.

They thought about veering away from the task ahead, but decided against it as it would only postpone the inevitable. Besides which, there would be less people around at this particular time and less of the day would feel wasted than had they chosen to go later on.

It was a short walk to the shops, but it always felt far, far longer than it was. Perhaps that was part of the luxury of being able to live where they lived; firmly within the urban environment and very close to everything, yet still able to be in a position where, even though main roads were nearby, they were inaudible. It was almost the best of all worlds, yet still the task of shopping always seemed to pose a threat to this idealised situation.

Of course they could have gotten home delivery, but they didn’t feel as though there was enough control over receiving their goods, and they preferred to shop on the fly; a rough idea of some of the things they needed and then purchasing anything outside of that so long as it caught their attention as they’d glide through aisles looking for bits and pieces. It wasn’t a perfect system, but it was good enough.

It only was a short bit of their time, and yet it felt as though too much of any time was spent on doing this one small task. The day was too good to be wasted shopping! But of course it was still going to happen, for they needed food more than they didn’t and so they continued their trip.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 08:09:75

This took longer than I had hoped.
There was going to be more ridiculous stuff in here but instead it ended up rather mundane, I think.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 987: No Motivation Now

So I had made a good chunk of progress on one of these just now when I accidentally reset the timer, which was a bad thing to do.

I was writing about how I was ready to do things this morning and now that is gone due to my being anal about how I go about doing these things and really, whose fault is that? Certainly not mine. I can blame others and I will, because I can. I can shirk the shroud of responsibility that I should deservedly wear, for I do not want to wear it and therefore no one can make me wear it, though really I cannot take it off for this one is mine and mine alone and it is up to me to wear it responsibility, or something.

Anyway, I feel quite demotivated now. I don’t want to do this. I was going strong and I was getting things done and there was a sense of hope and triumph over laziness, but of course my mistake had to happen and now I am here, writing this lazy filth and expressing things in a way that does not constitute good writing. I am having my whinge about the fact that I decided to scrap the whole thing that I had written due to my resetting a timer and its not being complete. I am doing this and I will be as dramatic about it as I feel like being and no one can stop me. Maybe some two can, but no one can’t.

So now I don’t know as to what it is that I do from here. I don’t know as to how I should try and wrap this up, or even if this should be wrapped up at all. I walk among the ashes of creation and I occasionally stomp my feet in the hopes that my grumbling will lead to that which I want it to lead to, but of course there is no hope at this point. There is no success. It is all time to move on from what it was that I was doing, and so move on I might just do. I might just not also, but really, I might just do as I cannot even remember what it was that I had written and I need to work out as to how I will wrap all of this bit up so that I can get on with the next thing and then pretend to find some hope once more.

Still, there is always real hope and I can cling onto that and then swing into whatever it is that I need to swing into in order to get that hope going and see it turn into something else, then grow the thing so that it becomes something far greater than I could ever imagine.

Still, there is no motivation now so I’ll sink the opportunity, but I’ll do it later as I’m being lazy at the moment.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 04:56:44

This started off slow and picked up speed as I wrote.
I think that this works as a reaction to writing that won’t be seen.
Outside of that, it’s rather bland, but that’s not different from usual.
