Infusion: Daylight Hours

With this one I spent a bit of time pausing and rewinding the song, trying to take in as much as I could. I think that there could have been a little less repetition.

I think with this one I was trying to convey what was happening in the song a bit more. This is one of my favourite songs, but I felt that it was a bit of a struggle for me. What I wrote came easy, but it was more in the articulation, I think.

Infusion’s “Daylight Hours” is from Six Feet Above Yesterday.

I hope you enjoy.

Muted sound, seemingly rotating on itself. Around this other sounds come and go. Something less muted following a slight pattern. Various small flourishes. Notes that help accentuate the idea of a beat.

Something lower in sound comes in and provides more context. It, much like what else is going on, is highly rhythmic. It follows the flow in its own way and slides in with ease. Sounds much like brass slowly rise up before going back down; shortly after what sounds like a vibraphone joins in and starts dancing its own melody on the base. It keeps itself spaced and succinct and moves organically through the scenery as it is painted.

Still scatterings of other sounds find their way, perhaps as though they are structures rising up as they are passed. The brass itself begins rising up more and holding more prominence. Notes elongate, then it falls away, letting the song fall back to focus on the first sounds. The focus holds for a brief period, then the first words appear.

A thick bass and steady beat come in and, along with the words, take over. They don’t take over the scenery so much as they guide it to somewhere else that still fits in with what came before. The vocals deliver rapidly and in a way that seems both flat and expressive. It seems as though it’s in a matter of showing imagery of an idea of what is to come and its words connect and flow along with as much ease as what came before.

The bass and rhythm stay steady and as resonant as the lyrics and their delivery. Occasional flourishes, as well as something else flowing along keep the movement going. The brass returns, as well as other songs, the percussion becomes fuller and more striking.

There is much movement and it is all in alignment in its continuation. The vocals seem to build to something and, in a slight pause they deliver their last few words of the passage in motion. The final word echoes out whilst the beat continues, engaging in interplay between cymbal, and kick and snare. The vibraphone becomes clear once more and all seems straight ahead, no speeding up and no slowing down. Brass continues to accentuate and elongate. The music is as calm as it is energised and it feels organic and absorbing. There is a sense of space and openness, but there is also a sense of focus.

The beat drops away and slowly other sounds follow suit. Eventually it is down to two sounds. Then the vibraphone loops on itself and starts to fade as the song ends.

Melbourne CBD During Sunset

Here are three photos of Melbourne CBD during sunset.
I like how these photos almost show the passage of time, albeit roughly.

I also like the variation in colour. It makes the sunset’s light feel as though it’s concentrated only on certain areas of the scenes, which it is, and I think the three photos do a good job of showing that.

I also like how in the last photo Melbourne CBD feels small It’s not the biggest CBD, but for Australia it is quite large. However, here it is not when taking into consideration the surrounding land and the sun.

This is my submission into the one hundred-and-fifty-first Lens-Artists Photo Challenge.

The theme for this one is “From Large to Small“.

I feel as though these photos count due to how framing and relation affects how (in terms of size) Melbourne CBD appears.

The challenge is hosted by four people and cycles weekly:

Week 1 – Patti

Week 2 – Ann-Christine aka Leya

Week 3 – Amy

Week 4 – Tina

Patti is curating this week’s challenge. Leya is curating next week.

I recommend participating in the challenges. They’re enjoyable and allow room for interpretation of the theme without straying too far. If you don’t participate, then I recommend that you at least check out what others of the Lens-Artists community are submitting.

I hope you enjoy.

One Thousand Word Challenge 124: Waiting

I sit here and I spend my time waiting. I am waiting for something to happen, but I know not as to what that something might be. I do know, however that for once it does not concern writing and so I’m feeling a little more free to ramble on about things that don’t matter. Of course I generally feel pretty free to do that, but right now it’s just a little more free than usual. perhaps you could argue that I am galvanised at the moment, but that is something that I don’t want to get into.

I also don’t want to get into discussing the wonderful driver who thought it would be a good idea to overtake around a corner, crossing a double line to do it and doing it shortly before six in the morning, and due to doing it a fair bit over the speed limit, almost taking me and my partner out. Beyond what I’ve just said, it feels like a waste of energy at the moment.

I could discuss what it is that I am waiting for, but what I am waiting for is quite easy to summarise. You see, what I am waiting for is the point in time where I start getting ready to do things as there are things of which I am to do this afternoon and they will start with my getting ready to head outside. I will head into the outside world and once I am there I will go on a journey that involves driving and moving from one location to another location. There will be some places where I stop along the way. There may be places where I do not stop. There also could be places where I both do and do not stop, but what I do know is that there will be quite a few locations passed and there will be the act of motion in which I will engage in as an active participant, for participating in the act of moving through space and time is something of which I shall be a participant in and of the active variety.

Now that I have that out of the way, perhaps I should look at discussing other things. I should look at what the time is so I can be better equipped to start getting ready, for the process of getting ready requires a few steps and I need to make sure that I am ready to take part in those steps. I need to know that I can actively move forward toward the act of getting ready and I need to make sure that the act of getting ready is one in which I will be able to pass through with little difficulty.

Technically many things could happen between now and the point in which I will be ready, but I’m sure that with enough time and work I could mitigate most of those things and make sure that the things I can’t prevent have a smaller chance of happening, or at least less clutter around them so I can better avoid them when they come along.

Maybe there is a chance where I am overthinking this, but thinking is good as it helps the brain function… I think… but there are other things that I need to consider with this statement of statements, but perhaps those other things will not be considered and instead I will just keep on going on with whatever it is that I am going on about as I am currently spending time waiting and soon I will wait no more and instead jump into action so that I can get to the end of what it is that I need to get to the end of, which just so happens to be a series of events in which I will participate, followed by taking it easy, or something.

Maybe there will be no taking it easy and instead I will just keep on going. That too is a possibility of which is one that I need to consider, for there are plenty out there and now I am just rambling and perhaps I need to try and find a way to stop. However, the issue here is that I am on a flow that just allows all of this to keep on pouring out and so I need to let it happen so that I can move onto other things.

What if it doesn’t stop?

What if I am stuck like this and there is no way out? What if somehow, despite my constant rambling, this has been bottled up for my entire existence and only now it is coming forward? What if I have to let this happen? I don’t want that to be the case. I want to be able to relax nd take it easy before the inevitable getting up and getting ready. I don’t want to have to let a bunch of words flow on endlessly for the rest of my days.

I don’t know what to do and therefore maybe it no longer is time to wait. Maybe now is the time for me to start working toward closing this up by force and then getting up and doing the things. Maybe I need to take action and then go from there.

There is every chance that this might not work, but then again it might just and then I will be fine and there will be nothing left for me to worry about for at lest five minutes or so. However, there is every chance that perhaps I am overthinking this too and therefore I need to stop worrying about what it is that I am worrying about, then get this wrapped ups o I can go onto other things, but then again there is no telling at this stage so perhaps I will just fight to stop the flow and then get back to the periodic act of waiting.

The time it took to write one thousand words: 11:21:94

This one was quick and also something that, whilst messy, is something I’m happy with.
It was really easy to write and as such it felt really smooth to write.

Mark Morgan: Metallic Monks

This was over two listens.
I was looking to try and balance imagery and mood with describing the flow of the song. Don’t quite think I did, but instead captured what I feel is imagery appropriate to the song.

Some of this is a bit rough to read. Could be better, I think.

Mark Morgan’s “Metallic Monks” is from the soundtrack for Fallout, which is known as Fallout: The Soundtrack.

I hope you enjoy.

Land fades in on a soft drone. Sounds of an alarm, sounds echo and ring. What could be a flute meets the drone, and soon something extends off the drone itself. Gradually something is built.

There is a dry, cracked soil expanse stretching out, but that almost feels like a memory of the future. Something martial comes in in a way that something greatly undesirable is coming in. There is tension in the air, as well as a strong sense of foreboding. There remains time to turn around, but it is ignored and instead pushing forward into some sort of significant change seems inevitable.

Sounds move along each other. Some call out and express anguish; others resign themselves to what is coming, or rather, what has come, for that which felt like a memory actually instead is, and that which is occurring already happened. Change had already happened and the world reflects the outcome of that change. Heavy is the music, but it floats without being weighed down.

Something akin to brass, some beeps, and slowly the drone dies down. The tone and mood are set, and the song ends.

A Poem About Continually Hitting the Metaphorical Wall

Quick, loose and probably little promise but I don’t mind.
Maybe for the next one I’ll put in more work.

I hope you enjoy.

Once more I have set out
Thinking that I can move forward
However, with no plan prepared
I once more am against a wall

There’s no need for its presence
I have ways of being evasive
And yet, despite all I can do
I willingly find it again

I could walk around
Or even away from its location
Though without anything guiding
I might just find the wall again

One thing I could do
Is look where I am going
And have something to work from
To help guide the way

Though stubbornly I refuse
And keep on going
So despite my steadfast desires
The wall keeps finding me

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 958: Kind of Disconnected

Ow, pain, you get the idea.

Gardening is a fun thing to do but instead of talking about that I am going to follow the whimsy. I don’t know where it will lead, but follow it I will, for there are unexplored territories and I need to sail over to them in order to visit them, so I think you get the idea of what is going to happen with this bit of writing.

Perhaps it will be best to treat it as though it is little else other than a form of exercise. I am warming up and in order to warm up I need to churn out more things that make little, if any sense.

Maybe they do make sense but really what I should be pointing out is how much of a mess they are. However, it needs to be stated that that is something I don’t want to do. What I want to do is just warm up and do something that glides along. I want all the pieces to fit in a way that it becomes difficult to tell as to what is and is not a separate piece, though in reality all of this is one continuous piece. There will be little, if any, disjoint in this writing.

I think that soon I need to get breakfast. I should eat before I take on a perilous journey over the ocean and to lands new and undiscovered by anything resembling the human hand. I don’t know if I will definitely succeed – there is a chance that I will end up circling around without even realising – but I feel as though part of the act of discovery and adventure is the actual act of itself, but I will need to find a way to cut out all the tedium and make sure that all you get is the highlight reel. Then again, that might leave me reeling from the stock banality of trimming something down to only the exciting bits.

No, what I need to do is discuss the whole thing at length and make sure that every pointless details receives the care and attention as the exciting bits would, for that truly is the only way in which to ensure that the full range of needless expression is expressed needlessly. If it is a journey it needs to feel like one. Sure, it would be good if the whole thing was just excitement and action and wonder and all those other things, but then would it really be a proper retelling of the act of the journey of following whimsy?

Do I even need to get on a boat?

There are more questions than there are answers, but there is no time to provide the answers and so I must move on and get ready for things that are rapidly approaching. Today will be a day of things and I am here to partake in the experiencing of them, but first I’ll need a boat.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 06:58:39

I think I don’t need to worry so much about the speed of writing so much.
Perhaps it is time to slow down a little and see what happens.

Ens: Moonshine Sober

Initially I was just looking to describe what was going on with the instrumentation as best as my sleep-deprived state would allow. Then I slipped into something a bit more image-based, then back to what was going on… sort of.

This one is a mess but I’m not going to edit it as I feel it does a good job of reflecting how tired I am at the moment. Not sure as to why I’m fine with that being represented, but I am.

I think that, for listening to “Moonshine Sober” twice to write about it, what I wrote reads alright, but admittedly I’m already pretty familiar with the song.

Ens’ “Moonshine Sober” is from Warp + Weft.

I hope you enjoy.

Warm, slow, muted sounds. Careful notes, slowly moving up. Precise, clear and spaced.
Something seems to echo away, then the percussion comes in. Keeps it light. More sounds. Not quite a building so much as it is a forming.

The beat fills in more space and there is something more definitive in sound now, but the melody remains calm, floating and gentle. Pulling back occasionally, but only for brief moments to draw attention to one thing. Then it’s all back.

A gentleness keeps on drifting by and the clouds in the sky of either the middle or late afternoon float in their space, moving toward some location that can be guessed but is largely unknown to those lying in the grass and looking upward. The world around shifts in stills close together, but all in the sky moves as smooth as it always has and it all seems much like an idyllic sketch housed within a deep daydream. Warmth is the colour, though perhaps there is a cool breeze in the wind. There is no need to worry about being energetic and running about as it’s easy enough to stare into the nothingness whilst looking at the implied peacefulness of what the sky houses and feel loose and warm. It is easy to relax and let time pass in this particular series of moments.

It all flows through a beat that feels like it’s shuffling, keys that play gentle and dreamy, and sounds as clear as they are muted. Something quickly will fade in and out, and toward the end something seems to glide about, frequently within view, but shooting right past and out of sight regularly.

It’s peaceful and keeps itself going without becoming anything more, all the way until it shimmers away and ends.

A Poem About Being Awake Without Enough Sleep

I’m currently functioning on roughly five hours of sleep due to staying up too late, so you all get this rather dull and unimpressive poem.

Not sure what I was doing here and not sure if I care right now. I’ll feel more critical about it later. Maybe.

I hope you enjoy.

Too many hours
Or so they say
Have I been up
And quite alert
But rather still
Whilst I am awake
My body disagrees
So I am sluggish
With great desire
And so I fight
To place words
In sensible order
For the need
To create

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 957: More Complaining About the Cold

Feel the cold and all of that other stuff. Trying to warm up. Hoping to feel warm sooner rather than later. No telling as to how soon that will happen, however, as I have methods and avenues in which I can pursue, though now that I think about it it is probably better that I pursue those avenues. Not feeling much a fan of being cold at the moment.

However, if I do pursue those avenues then can I really keep on complaining about a thing that happens that I have no control over? Is that really the road I want to go down? Do I really want to put myself into a position of being content? I don’t think that that is necessarily a good idea. I would rather be able to complain and voice my complaints and keep on stamping my feet and shaking my fist. I would rather be able to grumble about something even though the solution is right in front of me. I would much rather ignore the solution. I don’t want to reach out and touch it.

I don’t want to have the cold mitigated as if I do, then I cannot continue with going on about it in circular and pointless patterns. Well, I could, but it would ring hollow as I would not be able to show that my heart is in the complaining. Therefore my ability to complain about the thing would be diminished and that is not a world I want to face. No, the world I want to face is one where I can bitterly complain and ramble on about things that have a simple solution as that makes me feel like a bigger person, or something.

Yes, this is dragging. Bear with me as soon this will be over and then you won’t have to read any further, though you probably stopped a lot earlier than this sentence implies, though maybe you didn’t. Who am I to say?

So anyway, the cold is rough and I am not able to face it for it is rough and preventing the facing of it through the act of being present, though I will face it and I will stare at it and I will stare it down until it finally gives up and goes away. It will not defeat me for I have the power of complaining on my side and therefore I know that if I complain hard enough it might just go away and leave me alone. Then I can go back to wearing shorts and embracing the short-wearing culture that I so am ready to be a part of, but the shorts that they provide aren’t that great and so there are other problems there.

I’m sensing a bit of an issue here and perhaps, rather than complaining about the cold I should be complaining about what’s wrong with the world when the shorts provided aren’t adequate.

Maybe I should just complain about everything that I can.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 06:19:78

As I was writing this I felt as though I was going to go down a line of writing that was far too familiar, and so I tried veering away a little. Not sure if I was successful, but I do like the silliness of this writing.

Top of the Cliff

Something about this photo that feels old.
Feels quiet, but it also feels old.
I think it is due to how much of the cliff side that is visible, along with the soft lighting.
It feels like this is something that has been around for a long and (somewhat) still period of time.

I hope you enjoy.
