Five-Hundred Word Challenge 956: Mess of words

Something something and it has already begun, so the entanglement of words will find itself leaving in and out and creating a patchwork mess of detritus and other ephemera. Eventually there will be such a great clutter that it will be difficult to work out wat word is meant to go with what other word. There will be issues and there may not be any point in trying to untangle any of it anyway due to it probably making little sense in the first place.

However, none of that matters right now. No, what matter is the delicious patterns it forms. By “delicious”, what I really mean is “interesting”.

So anyway, this is happening and it just gets bigger and bigger and eventually there will be no telling as to where it even began. The tangling will be so massive that perhaps you’d be able to use it as a carpet, or something. That would be useful.

Maybe it wouldn’t be that big, though maybe it would be bigger. Maybe you’d be able to use it as both carpet and wallpaper at the same time. Now that could be useful. It could also be a problem, but it could be useful.

Of course there is no telling to the amount of uses that would find themselves being revealed through the increasing tangling of words. Maybe you’d be able to use it to find words that you didn’t even know existed. Of course that would be quite wonderful, but maybe that is also wishful thinking and wishful thinking is something I’d prefer to avoid. It takes up a lot of time and time is not something I want to take up a lot of as there are other things that I need to move toward after this, but of course what I’m doing right now is talking about word whilst using words and hoping that whilst my talking about words creates sentences, I don’t trip up all over myself and lead to the creation of a mess that might prove difficult in trying to make sense of due to how much of a mess it is.

Perhaps what I need to do at this point is start carefully selecting my words so that there is some sort of clarity. From there everything might just be able to be untangled. Perhaps that is even a noble pursuit, somehow. I cannot explain as to how it would be, but it would be and this is what I am choosing to believe in this particular moment, but that’s not important right now. What is important is that I believe this could create some sort of way out and then I could turn back on the whole jumbled mess and reveal just how much sense it could make.

Then again, that requires a lot of work and I don’t feel much like doing much, so perhaps my talents (or lack thereof) might be better served working toward seeing what I can do with the mess.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 06:25:66

Not as much of a mess as I thought this would be.

Seed Pods

Hanging off bare branches underneath an overcast sky, creating an image that’s not quite bleak nor solemn, but getting there.

Maybe this is a little too dramatic.

This plant might be a honey locust (Gleditsia triacanthos) but I’m not certain.

This is my submission into Leanne Cole‘s “Monochrome Madness” for this week.
I suggest checking out Leanne’s photography, as well as checking out what other people submit.

A lot of what people are submitting will likely end up here.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 955: The Road Stretched

So the road stretched on into an endless distance, far beyond what was considered reasonable or acceptable and perhaps that was fine. The space on either side of the road was mostly flat and vast, and sometimes appearing to be bookended by mountains looming off in an almost imperceptible distance.

The last time any form of traffic had been seen was hours ago. Perhaps even days. It was difficult to tell sometimes, for traffic only entered thought when it was there, and only in a way that meant there may need to be a reaction to someone else’s action. Otherwise the focus was on moving forward and continuing on.

Periods of time seemed to pass on by without much of a notification that things were changing. Of course the passage of time was noticed on occasion, based on how much light was in the sky, but otherwise there was little in the way of paying any attention to what was happening outside of the car as it continued to follow the road to wherever it may have led.

Sometimes it didn’t seem as though it would matter, so long as it took them somewhere, anywhere. They had a need to keep on moving in the hopes that something would reveal itself. There were times of rest for rest was needed, and in those times the great expanse of space revealing itself was appreciated, as was eating, stretching legs, or just staring off into something beyond the scenery when stopping during the day was required, but otherwise it was continual driving.

Occasionally there would be some small talk in a quiet town whilst resupplying for all of twenty minutes, but otherwise the journey was one of quiet. There was no need for conversation outside of the strictly necessary; there only was a need to keep on moving.

Had there been other circumstances and perhaps the landscape would’ve been better approached with a sense of wonder. Its constant existence was one that seemed both uniformly banal, yet at the same time it revealed through itself gradual change and shift that lent an air of the unique that wouldn’t exactly reveal itself without some sort of extended focus and exploration. However, that was not to be, and even the stars, with all their wonder and appreciation were only appreciated for offering something else to try and peel back in order to see what was beyond.

And so the driving continued. The destination remained as far as it was near; as it was approached the rolling expanse would find itself replaced with greater traffic and large structures all holding a sense of similarity whilst retaining difference based on what was inside of them. Eventually in the heart of urbanity a rest would be found, but it stay distant and there would be no sense of rest, for the need to move and the need to be away and in the middle of nowhere was far too great for suburbia to function as a replacement.

Slow and perhaps a little too serious. Perhaps a little too dry.
Some parts don’t work, I think.

One Thousand Word Challenge 123: Fridge Expedition

Back hurts but that is not going to stop me from telling this tale of falsity.

So I was walking over to the fridge to see if there was anything in there. I wasn’t necessarily looking for anything in particular; just something that I could chow down on. My pace, whilst certain, was not hurried as I knew that hurrying would not necessarily change anything… or would it?

I kept on walking and it seemed as though less than a minute had passed from the commencement of my journey to the arriving at the fridge. Some might say that it seemed that way as that was indeed the way that it was, and perhaps they would be correct. Anyway, I was there and I was looking at the door. I instinctively reached for where the fridge door was opened and, with dedication toward action of the forward (in a certain way) variety, I opened the door and looked inside.

For some reason there seemed to be less contents within the fridge’s boundaries than when I had last checked. The previous time there was more consumables of the edible variety in there, but for some reason this time around there was less. It was not as though it had been a stretch of time spanning days since my last check; it had only been a few hours. You’d expect that as people come and go to the fridge to remove items, that the contents would disappear. However, this was far, far less than any one person in the house would be able to consume within the given amount of time.

I quickly looked in the bin and saw that nothing had been thrown out since my last check, and as I looked over the kitchen I could see no signs of any use of inventory. I went back to scanning the fridge and its few shelves. I couldn’t see anything out of the ordinary. I couldn’t see any signs of tampering with anything. I found myself with more questions rather than less, and the suggestion of mystery became far greater than what I had desired.

That is when I noticed that I could crawl onto the middle shelf and look a little further into the fridge than my then-current position of being external to the main area of the fridge allowed.

I went in and crawled for a little while. Eventually there was room where I could better fit and so I stood up and began moving at an accelerated pace. My stride was not relaxed for it was a little chilly and I needed to make sure I stayed warm. I probably should have put on a jacket before going in, but I was on a mission to find where the food had gone; something of which I was a little too focused on and so it was something I did not do, but such is life.

I walked for a while and found nothing other than snow falling from somewhere above where I was. Where I had entered was something no longer visible; nor was it something I felt I could easily find, but I was still going and I was feeling fine so I wasn’t overly concerned. Perhaps that was the wrong way to approach the whole endeavour, but I wasn’t thinking about that at the time. My main mission was to find the food. Everything else was secondary.

I kept on walking and as I did I saw the change in the snow. At first it was light but it became thicker in its blanketing. Eventually there was a strong wind and not long after that it was no longer just snow, but also a snowstorm. There was no sign of shelter anywhere and so it was up to me to build a shelter, or at least hope for the best.

I saw some thick, fallen branches and plenty of large foliage near them, so I built myself a makeshift shelter. Luckily enough as I was building this, I noticed that it connected not a rocky alcove that stretched out far enough to provide shelter, so I stopped what I was doing and went into the alcove. I took some of the foliage with me (as well as some dry branches) and, with the matches that I had on me that I didn’t mention earlier, lit a small fire to help stay warm.

Once the fire had started someone else made an appearance. It appeared as though they had been there longer than I, for they were drier. we sat around the fire and said very little. They were in a hooded robe and seemed uninterested in talking. To be honest, neither was I.

I could not make out their face due to the way the shade of the robe fell over it, but they appeared to be focused on the small fire.

After a long while I was growing tired of being at the mercy of the blizzard and so, after a mutual nod signifying an understanding between myself and the hooded figure, I stood up and began my walking out.

It took a while of walking in the blizzard, or at least it felt that way. It wasn’t exactly what one would describe as pleasant, but it was something I dealt with and through my dealing with this I eventually made my way out of its gripping hold of which I did not desire being caught within.

Eventually I had to crawl and it was not long after that before I found the fridge’s door. On the way out I became a little too enthusiastic about leaving the fridge, got up too fast and hit my back hard on the shelf above. When that happened the food fell down from where it was, which was all on the top shelf. I got out as quickly as I could and found myself happy to know that it managed to pass through the top shelf with ease.

Silly and a bit messy but I like the result.

Somewhere Along The Hume Highway

I think I stopped at this rest stop rather quickly. I saw it then made the decision to stop here without much time to slow own in a smooth manner. Wasn’t the worst stop I’ve done, but it could’ve been smoother.

I like that, despite some cars being visible, this feels like a quiet scene. Perhaps it is due to the cars driving away from rather than toward where I was.

The rolling hills and clouds in the distance make the area looking dry in parts a little more subtle, I think.

I hope you  enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 954:This bit of Writing

I need to do something today because if I don’t, then I feel I’ll have wasted the whole day and, to be honest, that is not something I feel like feeling at the moment. There are other things to worry about and all that and so I need to get on with this and then that, but of course the struggle is real and so I find myself facing my mortality once more on the off chance that all of this gets done.

Well, this bit of writing, at least.

Will there be more? I can tell you that there certainly won’t be less, but of course it all depends on how much my hands warm up, assuming that they do indeed warm up at all.

I’m making a few assumptions here. Well, maybe I’m not, but let us just pretend that I am. Let us pretend that the cold really is as bad as I pretend it is most of the time. That makes it easier for me to pretend, you see. If I can pretend then I can be more dramatic about it and through that being dramatic, perhaps I can summon the fiction of the real and suddenly it all falls into place as this grand proclamation of all that is amazing finds itself bobbing forward at an unnecessary pace, and I will be able to grapple with it and all that other stuff, but of course I need to make sure that grappling is what I am doing and I am not the one grappled by the fiction. I need to be the one who controls it and makes sure that it goes the way that I want it to go, for if I am not, then I don’t know as to what I will have no control over what is happening and where it is going.

Not sure where I was going with that, but maybe I will continue.

Hang on; perhaps this is a sign that I lack control over the direction of this narrative and it is creating itself through the medium of my hands. Perhaps I really am the slave to the writing and I cannot do anything about it. What do I do now? Where do I go from here?

How many hats do I need to wear before the sheer ludicrousness of the appearance of someone wearing too many hats moves on from being ludicrous to acceptable?

I don’t know the answers to these questions and I know not as to what I shall do from here. It seems as though I am in the corner and the only thing I can do is hope for the best, but hoping will not get me far, so perhaps what it really is that I can do is accept this new reality and just go along for the ride, but of course I have no idea as to where the ride leads, but that doesn’t really matter at this juncture in time.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 05:46:74

I feel this became a little sillier toward the end and I like that.

Weaving Through Valleys

Just realised that Mount Hay is visible in this photo. Might’ve realised previously, but cannot remember if I did. Anyway.

This is another photo of some place in The Blue Mountains that I’ve taken in the last few months. It was taken at the same location as this photo.

I think this is a relaxed photo, in part due to the light of the late afternoon. I also feel that it feels quiet and solitary in a way that massive areas of land seem to feel that way. There are some paths through these valleys, but they’re not visible and so the idea of the bushland being completely untouched remains preserved.

This is my submission into the one hundred-and-fiftieth Lens-Artists Photo Challenge.

The theme for this one is “Let’s Get Wild!“.

The challenge is hosted by four people and cycles weekly:

Week 1 – Patti

Week 2 – Ann-Christine aka Leya

Week 3 – Amy

Week 4 – Tina

This week’s challenge is guest-curated by Dianne Millard of Rambling Ranger. Next week Patti is curating. The theme for next week has been announced, and it will be “From Large to Small”.

The challenges are pretty fun and there’s a lot of room for interpretation that doesn’t get in the way of enjoyment. If you’re into photography, then I suggest participating, or at the least checking out what other people are submitting.

I hope you enjoy.

DEFCE: Helial Harvester

I was trying to mostly describe how the sounds work with this one. I had to stop the song a few times to make sure I was capturing things but I don’t think I quite pulled it off. This feels much like a really rough sketch. I think that if I were to talk about the expressiveness of the song I’d be here for a while and that likely wouldn’t involve much writing.

DEFCE’s “Helial Harvester” is from Surface Tension.

I hope you enjoy.

Buzzing noise starts quiet, quickly becomes louder. Suddenly unravels into some sort of smooth looping hum soon underneath other sounds. A dropping thump appears, sounding out some sort of intensity, then layering.

The thump mutes a little and by now the buzz has returned, a little more prominent, though seemingly ebbing and flowing in its clarity.

A sudden percussive strike comes in followed by a bit more noise. Suddenly a greater deal of aggression and the percussion keeps striking out a pattern, almost like a galloping. Few sounds try to stay on but they almost seem to fly on past until the percussion stops.

A wave of noise approaches and washes by, then glitches appear. All seems “calm”, or at least at rest but then the percussion returns with the violence and intensity that it held previously. It does not last long and all the sounds that were there pull away when the percussion stops, leaving one last noise to float on in and away.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 953: Searching for Inspiration

The cold is brittle and wears at my bones, or something.

Yes, it still is cold and in a couple of days it will be winter, which is the way that the passing of the seasons works or something. I think I’ve missed a few steps there but you get the idea.

Now that I have that out of the way I guess I should try and find something more engaging to talk about. However, I don’t know where to start looking.

I know that once I was looking under the couch for something. I wasn’t necessarily looking for anything particular; just something interesting. Something that could inspire the words to flow forward and lead to some sort of creation that, whilst not necessarily divine, reads profound and moving in a way that I could never have done prior to the discovery. Of course this might seem like asking for too much, but it was not.

What I was looking for was not there and so I moved on.

That was one time and now I find myself in the same situation. I could look under the bed. Perhaps what I seek is there. If it is not, then once more I move on. However, getting to that stage may take a lot of time as there are a lot of things under the bed and therefore there is the possibility of the great inspiration under there.

Maybe I’m considering the wrong place. There is the possibility that, rather than look under things I should be looking above things. Maybe I need to turn upward and see what is there. There are birds, clouds and other things, but that would be too far upward. Maybe I need to look on shelves above me. Maybe reach around those. There could be things there that aren’t just objects and dust. Then again, maybe all there is up there is dust and objects. Still that does not mean that was is there cannot inspire and so that is something else I need to keep in consideration for whatever it is that I am hoping will lead to the grand profoundness of which I hope to be able to express.

Perhaps there is a need to look inward, but looking inward is not necessarily going to reveal anything, though maybe it will. It can be difficult to tell sometimes as I may not know as to how much of what I see would just be me deceiving myself.

However, none of that matters right now. What it is that matters right now is that I am feeling the cold and I need to work through it as there are things to do, but I need my inspiration and I cannot find it at the bottom of a bottle, but the inside of a bottle can look interesting from a certain point of view. Maybe it is from multiple points of view and not one, but then again maybe the whole search is the inspiration.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 07:21:15

A mess, but perhaps not as messy as some of the other stuff I’ve written.

Train Crossing

Not the same V/Line train as the one in the last photo I shared.

I think it’s interesting as to this photo turning out to be somewhat-moody.

Might have to do with the light levels.

Nothing amazing about this photo. There’s a slight blur on the carriages due to their being in motion, but overall this is a pretty standard occurrence for some people. Not so much for me as I don’t live near a railway crossing; nor do I live in the country, but for quite a few this is business as usual.

I hope you enjoy.
