Shortly after the last exam of last semester, I took this photo.

Two of my colleagues (and Ewe) were sitting in Centennial Parklands.

We were all a bit wrecked. I was taking a bunch of really good shots despite my condition at the time.

I like this photo. I wish that more of the ibis was in it, but I still like it as you get a good idea of the form of the ibis as it is about to fly from the branch.

It look a little odd, but at the same time you can see the strength of the ibis, as well as it in a slightly different form than usual.

Toilet Ranting

So yesterday I was at the toilets in Town Hall.

I was approaching the cubicles when some guy came out of one of them with a smug look on his face.

I wasn’t sure as to why he was smiling the way he was, but the toilet he came out of was clean and it was one of the ones with a bit more space, so I was happy.

I checked for toilet paper and there was none to be found.

I guess I knew why he was looking smug.

I went to another cubicle and someone had urinated all over the toilet seat.

WHY DO PEOPLE DO THIS?!

Why?

It’s not up to someone else to clean up after you, you dirty prick.

Just because it is a public toilet, it doesn’t mean you treat it poorly.

Other people need to use the toilet!

Do you piss all over your toilet when you’re at home?

If you don’t, then don’t treat public toilets poorly.

It’s not just for you.

If you do piss all over your toilet seat at home, that still isn’t justification for doing the same to public property.

How would you like it if you started doing that and someone caught you out?

It wouldn’t be very fun.

And to those who use a lot of toilet paper for no reason: Other people might need to use the damn toilet paper.

Seriously, fuck you both!

If you’re one of those people who want better public amenities and do this kind of shitty stuff, then you’ve got a shitty attitude. Treating public property in a bad way is not justifiable. You want better stuff? Treat the stuff we currently have well.

Don’t inconvenience other people just because you’re a selfish asshole who thinks that people need to pick up after you in some way due to some unjustifiable belief that you’re better than everyone else, or you’re to lazy to practice some basic fucking etiquette.

If you can’t aim into the bowl, then there’s this thing that you can do. IT’s a thing that is rather brilliant that we are all able to do. You can move the toilet seat into an upright position.

If that fails, there’s something even more brilliant.

You can sit on the toilet seat and then urinate into the toilet.

Doesn’t make you feel like a man? Stop being such a fearful asshole that you can’t reconcile the idea of sitting down whilst urinating with the idea of being a man. It doesn’t ruin your masculinity, although seeing as you thought it was a good idea to piss all over a toilet seat, you probably aren’t much of a man to begin with.

If you need to take all the remaining toilet paper, then maybe you should carry toilet paper with you. Stop wasting other people’s time.

I’ve said it before, but I do genuinely believe that if you can’t treat a toilet well, then you should be banned from using public toilets.

You should then be forced into mandatory training on how to use a toilet and if you don’t attend, you get fined.

Passing the course would require a 100% mark on every form of assessment. No ifs or buts. You don’t get 100% on everything? That’s another fine.

You fail the course? Another fine and required to start from scratch.

Caught using a public toilet during this period? A fine.

Pass and course and then treat a public toilet poorly? A ban for a period of time, a fine, then have to take the course again.

I don’t think that that is harsh because it is not hard to not be an asshole.

Brisbane from South Bank

Whilst walking around Brisbane I had the opportunity to take this photo.

There’s a nice calmness to this photo. It doesn’t feel loud and the colours are soft and muted.

I like that the water is not completely smooth, and I like that the reflections are somewhat vague.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 257: Some Stuff, Some Writing

I am wondering as to what I should be writing about today.

I don’t feel like making up some sort of fantastic story with elements of fantasy and fantastic-like elements right now, but I probably should, I think.

I could also write about current events, but again, it is not something That I feel like writing about in this current time of my day.

I don’t feel like writing about much, but I do know that I feel like writing about soemthing, although I ahve written about something before, so writing about something again would be something to write about once more if I felt like writing about something once more.

I can confirm that I do not feel like writing about something.

I can also confirm that whilst I do not feel like writing abuot something, I do feel like writing and writing about writing is still something that one can write about when they feel like writing but do not know what they should write about.

Now, where was I?

So I feel like writing and I don’t feel like being fantastic or writing about current events.

Actually, there is one current even that I could write about.

This morning I put on my pants. When I put them on, my legs thanked me, as it was rather cold and they wanted to stay as warm as they possibly could rather than go cold and have to deal with the chill of the weather that wanted to grasp at them as much as they could.

Well, now that that is out of the way, what else could I possibly write about?

I don’t know.

It is one of those days.

May it is not one of those days and it’s just that I’ve been a bit too lazy recenttly qwhich has caused me to slow down a lot more than I thgought I would.

The rest was probably needed, but then again it may not have been and I’m just probably telling myself to make myself feel better about my being really lazy about writing.

For now, I must accept this fact and also accept that I don’t know what I am writing about, although I do have to admit that writing about writing would probably imply that maybe I know more than I let on… if that was the truth. I think.

So at this point I’m just writing whatever I can in order to fill the space that is left as that way I can get back to my day of working and soon heading home to frolic among the backyard stuff which means I’ll be doing some house work before I get ready to set out for camping which will be occurring in a couple of days.

It is something that I am looking forward to, but at the moment it is something that I have to wait for before I can say “I am camping”, with confidence.

Well, I am wearing pants, with confidence.

So I really had a need to write something that wasn’t a review (of which I’ve worked on some in recent times), but I don’t think I did well with the result.

However, I am still happy with how this turned out.

Still Clawing

When I went bushwalking a few weeks ago, I went past this tree once more.

I think that the sky works well with the tree in this one. There’s a sense of motion and stillness between them and I also think that there’s a good amount of detail in the patterns of the sky and the bush.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 256: Dedicated Bus Roads

On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of last week I was in Brisbane.

Well, it was Wednesday evening, but it still counts.

Anyway, I was in Brisbane for an exhibition and I must say that it was a fun time that I had. It was easy, relaxing, and so on.

There is one thing that I was really amazed by and I’m surprised that this is something that hasn’t been adopted in Sydney due to how easy it would make things when it comes to commuting.

In Brisbane there are dedicated bus roads.
Not bus lanes on the road. Whole roads dedicated to buses only.

This makes getting around so much faster than if the buses had to share the roads with other vehicles.

I am aware that there aren’t as many as there could be, but there is still a small network and it increases efficiency by a significant amount.

Getting to a suburb in which I was staying took much less time than it would in Sydney over the same distance. In estimation, I believe it took ten minutes less than the same distance in Sydney.

I was amazed by how simple and genius that this idea was and I’m surprised and disappointed by the fact that we don’t have something like this in Sydney.

I’ve complained about and ciritcised public transport in Sydney many times and will continue to do so as it is quite worthy of all the criticism it gets.

In a world class city, you  get the construction of a light rail line that runs to a suburb that has (at least)  five bus routes that are currently running through it, which are cheaper and faster to use, unless the new light rail will be able to run faster than the buses, as well as take a more direct route.

Otherwise we have random price hikes, continued delays and are told that it’s all okay and everything is operating as expected, unless it isn’t, in which then the management of the system gets passed on to someone else.

Someone might say “It’s better than place x or y”, to which I say “so?”.
That is no reason to be happy with a system that offers less than it should.

We’re told that Sydney is a world class city, so we should expect better than what we get for public transport.

It is somewhat extensive and works well in parts, but that just is not good enough.

There is little to no incentive and has too many reoccurring problems (such as the 370 being known for seemingly being unable to adhere to anything resembling a timetable) that many other places have solved, such as Brisbane with their dedicated bus roads.

Until Sydney starts resembling what it calls itself, I don’t see how anyone can defend it as a world class city. Other than public transport, there’s many other problems. It could be worse, but it should be significantly better than for what we allow ourselves to settle.

I don’t think I’ve done enough writing over the past few weeks, which is probably why this was a bit slower than some of my other posts.

Collage of Trees

A few weeks ago, whilst I was waiting fir a bus I was playing around with my camera.

I took this picture as I like how the trees and leaves looked with each other, but I kind of moved on after taking the photo.

I think it works as a “Collage” of these trees, as well as light and shade, and different greens.

Waterfall Near a Cave

Here’s a waterfall that I saw whilst traipsing through the Royal National Park.

It was rather lovely to see.

I think that the picture captures it well. It was not powerful and rather small, but it was still wonderful and relaxing to see.

I think that the geology of this area frames it quite well. You get a good sense of how the water falls, as well as where the water is falling.

I also like the detail of the area as well as how the light falls on the various objects.

Sunset Station

When waiting for the train to take me back home when I was last bushwalking, I took this photo.

Whilst I was heading to the station I could see some of the sunset and thought I was going to miss it, so I consider myself lucky not to have.

I like how this contrasts the urban and nature parts of the area. It’s not a great contrast, but I do think that it works for the photo. It shows that, whilst development has occurred, nature is still prevalent in the area.

I also like the span of the sunset in this shot as I think it fits the photo well, providing a nice amount of light to the scene.
