Cable Anchors

When I was taking this photo, I was aiming for something. I can’t remember what that was, but I do like the result.

Sure, the framing could’ve been better, but there’s this cold feel to the image that I like. Just cold and industrial. Maybe grim and gloomy.

I also like the sense of distance. These arches are part of the same bridge and they’re closer than they appear, but here they appear far apart.

I hope you enjoy.

Gastropods on Rock

It has been a long day and I am rather tired. I wanted to write but I need to head off soon and don’t think it will happen, so instead here is a photo of some gastropods on rock.

I like how they still feel really small.  They take focus as they’re a shift in colour and form against the rock, but they don’t feel big, which is good in this instance… I think.

I hope you enjoy.

Dry Path

Or at least, that is how it appears.

This was taken a number of weeks ago at the same place as some recent photos.
I feel as though there’s a sense of harshness in this one and that is due to the brightness as well as the sense of dryness.

This is my submission into Leanne Cole‘s “Monochrome Madness” for this week.
I suggest checking out Leanne’s photography, as well as checking out what other people submit.

A lot of what people are submitting will likely end up here.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 1040: Feeling the Waves

Feeling the waves wash over them was a pleasant feeling. It was much needed. The day was grey and dull and the light dull and dreary, and it was recommended to not go to the beach, but still, this was something they felt was needed. It was something they craved.

It had been far too long since they had last immersed themselves in the ocean and no amount of rain risking spread of sewage from the distant outfall was going to stop them from embracing that which they had missed for so long. It had been a long period of time and many things surrounding the events of life had prevented them from getting anywhere that could be considered close, let alone within the ocean. The month prior had been particularly trying, with greats amount of pressure, fear and stress mounting upon their backs, threatening to crush and snap them. However, they persisted and they pushed onward.

It seemed like they had no choice, that they had to keep on going regardless of what could or could not happen. Of course there was a desire to break free of an unhealthy situation and to find some sense of the idea of normal, but often in a short period of time that seemed like a dream far away as though it was something that could not be obtained. However, in the end it was and so their persistence paid off. That said, they had felt flat.

Relief came at a cost and there was no real sense of emotion. All was on a level thing and there was just a great big nothing. There was no desire to do anything and there was no joy found in much. It was almost as though they had lost some of themselves and were hoping that it would return, though the hope too seemed more like something to cling onto than to actually hold any substance. It kept them going for just long enough, but that too seemed to wane with time.

One morning before dawn they found themselves awake and alert. There had been a lack of sleep, but they did not feel tired. However, they did feel compelled. They felt a strong desire, an urging within themselves to get up and leave their place of residence, and so they did, after getting ready of course.

They hopped onto the first bus of the morning that would take them there. Traffic was low and so the journey was quick, and it took them to their destination with ease.

They hopped off the bus as the dawn began and walked over to the sand. Off came their shoes and they could feel it, soft and raked, and cold. They continued walking and, as soon as they felt it was the right place to, dropped all their stuff and ran toward the ocean.

They dived in and felt the waves wash over them. It was a pleasant feeling. It provided the relief they had desired.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 10:15:66

Slow and not what I had hoped would come out. I had hoped I’d be able to whip up something stronger, but alas, it was not to be.

One Thousand Word Challenge 166: Cold and Uncaring Office

The day draws out but I am not at home today. No, I have returned to the office.

I am not sure as to why I decided to go ahead. I knew that part of doing so was due to someone else coming into the office, but today it is just myself in the office and it is great. It is empty and I can focus on things and that focusing on things means I’m kind of getting things done. Perhaps if there were others around I would be getting distracted. I have to take that into consideration.

There are many things I have to take into consideration but right now I’ll just bang away on this keyboard and write the things and then when they are written I’ll go on home, though I won’t be going directly home as there are things I need to do and so on and so forth.

I;m in an odd space where I’ve some time to kill but I don’t quite know how to spend it. My hands are a little cold and it is making my writing slow down a lot, but I’m not complaining, or at least trying not to.

The office has been empty all day and, to be honest, it is a relief. I’ve already said that, but perhaps I feel it bears repeating for some reason. What that reason is, I cannot say, but I’m sure that in time the reason will come to me and explain why it has come to me in this particular moment of life where we all exist and dance around in circles and find ourselves bewildered and lost within the constraints of time and dimension that we may one day harness the power needed to break out of these constraints and thus ascend to some sort of other things that leads to other, other things and all that other stuff.

I think that perhaps I am overstaying my welcome at the present moment, but I’m feeling alright. I’m feeling fine about this bit of writing but I won’t later. However, that doesn’t really matter right now. What matters is warming my fingers to a point where I can then write properly and then once I’m there I can get back on with whatever it is that I need to get back on with. Or something.

My fingers are cold but once more I am trying not to complain. Really, it’s my fault that they lack the warmth that I desire them to hold onto, and of course I can remedy this rather quickly. However, I am yet to and perhaps that is the way that it will remain. Perhaps my fingers will remain cold for a long time, though how long is a long time is yet to be determined, so I don’t think I’ll spend much time dwelling on the issue if I am to be honest. Other things for which I must dwell upon and I will dwell upon them a bit later.

Maybe I will not dwell upon them and instead write this out, though that is what I’m doing and in doing that I am being active in some way and slowly my fingers will thaw and I will feel more warmth and motion return to them, which is something that I greatly desire as it means function increases and I certainly appreciate my luck in having that function available to me at many points in time.

Maybe I need to spend a bit more time thinking about how lucky I am to be alive and how lucky I am to be able to do the things that I do. This does not necessarily mean I think I should rest as there is plenty of fighting that needs to be done. you can be lucky and appreciative and refuse to let things slide backwards; not just for yourself, but for others too. Especially for others, for we need to support people how we can and where we can. Society can be better and stronger if we support each other. However, I digress and not enough people want to hear that kind of stuff, so I’ll save it for another time.

I’ll write with ore rage later, as for now I don’t have it in me. I’m sitting here and it’s a little cold and I’m banging away on a keyboard I need to drag home shortly. There are things that I’ll need to take care of before then,. but for now I write this. I think about how I have all of this space and have spent the day left alone, and I think about how I want to see society become better and more accepting. I think about how I feel like I should be angry right now, but do not have much, if any anger in me. Such is life on the odd occasion.

The sounds of the air conditioning machines drone away and it feels the space with a sound, but that sound bleeds into silence and it becomes imperceptible at the best of times. The lights are cold and harsh, though not obviously so. They are insidious.

The space does not feel sterile, yet in some manner it is and in that manner it becomes apparent just how much a cold and uncaring office needs people who you get along with in order to tolerate being there. It’s something I already know, but haven’t thought about for a while, probably due to my desire to not be in the office and my preference to work from home as the job I do can easily be done at home. Oh well.

It is getting late and I need to wrap this up. I need to pack up and do other things and then head off. There are things to do and all of that other stuff I say I need to do. Therefore, I think this bit of writing will end somewhere around this word.

The time it took to write one thousand words: 12:47:82

This was written a little earlier today whilst I was still in the office.
I went there for reasons and the place was empty which was awesome for me.

Anyway, I feel I lost a bit of focus whilst writing this and as such this is uneven and a little disjointed.

Written at work.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 1039: Kind of Made it

Alright, the last thing now. I kind of made it. Might fall a bit short, but I think I’ll get there in the end.

This has been the most productive I’ve been in a long, long time. Is that a good thing? I’m not sure. I’m not sure right now and I don’t think I want to be sure. This is a difficult thing to maintain, but of course I can be proud about what I’ve done here, or something.

Do I have the right to be proud? Maybe. However, there remains a lot of work to go before I can determine any success found here in these words and the next ones. I don’t know if I can actually do that. I don’t know if I can lay claim to what I’ve done here as a success. Once more it is more of an experiment and it reveals things and smashes others. Therefore I will just declare this as a thing that I’ve done and I’ll look to move on. That might be the best way to proceed. Be better to not think too much about what I have and have not done and instead just get on with things. Look for a way forward. Explore and explore and then explore some more.

Still, I feel I’ve done alright. Even though I’m writing this in a way that is perhaps a little too much of an attempt at going fast, I feel I’ve done okay. I sort of made it and in that I guess I’ve done better than usual. If I could keep up at this rate I’d probably be happy. However, I don’t think I can do this every day.

I think the biggest thing I’ve learned here is that, so long as I have certain pressures on me I can churn out a lot of stuff in a short period of time. Whether any of it is good is something else to worry about, but the thing is that I’ve managed to get this done in a moth where I’m incredibly drained due to poor choices when it comes to participating in events when I’m already stretched thin. Such is life.

I think now that I’ve said that I’m really not sure as to what else I can say. I need to rest and I need to do that soon and perhaps this was not the best thing to do right now, but what am I going to do? I needed to update and I needed to keep on going. I’ve done that now and now I’m here. I’m sitting here and I’m in front of a screen and I’m banging this out in the hopes that I get it all wrapped up quickly, but I’m also tired and recognising the need to stop.

With that all said I guess I will now find the end to this bit of writing. I will then rest and I will rest in a way that implies my resting.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 05:47:62

I finished this about sixteen to seventeen minutes ago and took a brief break before uploading.

Not my finest writing but far from my worst.

View of the Ocean

I thought I’d shared an image of this before, but I cannot find it, so maybe I have not.

This is in the same location as the other recent geological photos I’ve shared.
It’s an aesthetically pleasing scene on the right day. Almost feels like you’re looking through a window.

This is my submission into the one hundred-and-seventy-sixth Lens-Artists Photo Challenge.

The theme for this one is “One Image/One Story“.

I think this counts as there is a long history in this area. There’s the recent history of mining and changing the use of the area; of joy and sadness, of exploration and resting, among other things. There’s also the history of geological formation, weathering, and ecosystem development.

The challenge is hosted by four people and cycles weekly:

Week 1 – Patti

Week 2 – Ann-Christine aka Leya

Week 3 – Amy

Week 4 – Tina

This one is curated by Leya. The next one is curated by Amy. The theme for the next one has been announced and it will be “Celebrating”.

I recommend participating in the challenges. They’re enjoyable and allow room for interpretation of the theme without straying too far. If you don’t participate, then I recommend that you at least check out what others of the Lens-Artists community are submitting.

I hope you enjoy.

Layered Branches

If you’ve been following Stupidity Hole for a while then it’s likely that you’re aware of my fondness of bare branches such as the ones seen below.

These ones are bare due to fire. They look almost like river systems and, due to the way the branches sit over each other, almost seem like they aren’t bare.

This is my submission into Leanne Cole‘s “Monochrome Madness” for this week.
I suggest checking out Leanne’s photography, as well as checking out what other people submit.

A lot of what people are submitting will likely end up here.

I hope you enjoy.

A Poem About This Hour of Power

So this is mostly about this hour of power
I don’t think what I’ve written here is good by any measure.
However, it keeps me going in a way as I haven’t done much of this kind of writing in a few weeks.

Written at home.

Perhaps choosing this was folly
Rather than rest I hurtle on forward
Looking for targets I may not reach
Hoping for destinations that are not there

I search far and wide
As my acceleration increases
Yet my motion remains slow
Betraying my desire for speed

I hope to see something new
And reach the target I’ve set up
However, it remains out of sight
And so I continue onward

Soil & “Pimp” Sessions: Hollow

This was written over one listen, albeit with some restarts as I was having difficulty getting some grounding, so to speak.

I was mostly just looking to describe what was happening but I think I switched into describing the emotive content, which may have been a good thing. Not sure.

Soil & “Pimp” Sessions’ “Hollow” is from Planet Pimp.

I hope you enjoy.

Some sort of keys stretch out as someone screams “death jazz”. A quick thunder sound before percussion comes in. The keys become lively and respond to the percussion. Suddenly everyone comes in and it’s a mass of lively, fun noise. Energetic drive as someone speaks rapidly through the music.

An escalation and it’s all with energy and thrust. There’s a sense of the frenetic before a slight pause of sorts. Then something akin to a solo comes in over the speeding rhythm. It’s bouncing all over and then that escalation comes back. It seems messy and chaotic, but really it’s tightly controlled and just blasting forward.

The beat seems to slow down a bit and groove becomes more apparent. The brass takes prominence and is furious, seemingly audacious and free. Once more an escalation and it seems things will go over the top before it stops and the instruments switch to something a little calmer. The music becomes more celebratory and uplifting. There’s a sense of the cool and the sounds are rich. Everything locks in and keeps things more overtly steady. It’s almost as though a sense of victory has been found and it is time to celebrate that victory. There may have been a great risk and some sort of cost, but it’s the point where all becomes uplifting and the second wind that was much needed to turn the tide comes around.

Perhaps it could be seen as the closing credits or even the opening, but regardless it’s tonally rich and loud and wonderful.

In the final moments the sound seems to stretch, almost ending on a question. However, there’s one final blast of energy, though it only lasts a brief moment and suddenly the song ends.
