One Thousand Word Challenge 144: Thursday Evening Ramble

Right now the word count is working and so I avoid issues with the word count, which of course makes me happy.

Entering about forty minutes of power and this is where I’m going to power through a bit of writing and try to get a few things done before rest time encroaches upon my existence. Now, I should have gotten these things done earlier on in the day, but alas, you don’t win them all and this is not one I have won, so therefore I’m doing this now and getting it out of the way and then once it is done I can move toward the next thing.

To be honest, I don’t feel as though making this whole chunk of writing about the doing of the things that are coming shortly a fruitful endeavour, but sometimes that is the way that these things go. That is the way that this will turn out and turn out this way it will. Probably should do other things though, by which I mean write about other things. However, that will come later. Right now it’s all about getting this thing done and then unearthing the giant monolithic mass that is my continued writing about things and chip away at that a little bit more, so to speak.

So I’m sitting here and I am doing the writing and I can only think about how I am doing the writing in a manner that expresses itself quite clearly as writing. Sure, there are other things out there that are worth writing about, and those things are significantly worth more than this, but this is what I am doing and doing this and then getting it out of the way is how I am going to proceed.

Somehow sometimes it feels like time slows down when writing under the kind of pressure a timer applies. I don’t know as to why this is the case, though I imagine that it has something to do with entering the zone and then being firmly in the zone and the moment, and experiencing it as such and then going through that for a while. Maybe that is why the sensation of time slowing down occurs. Of course I don’t quite know as I’ve never looked into it and also I don’t spend much time thinking about it, but I have an inkling that that is indeed the case.

However, right now I don’t have the time to think about  that. I need to think about this. I need to think about where this  bit of writing is going. I need to follow it through the valleys and over the hills. I need to watch it as it goes from the darkest night to the brightest day. The fields of stars that shine on down and mark the sky with the brightness will only come second to trying to find out where this bit of writing is going and where it is trying to lead me. I cannot assume. I can, however, guess and I can try and guess correctly, but there is a chance that I will never find out, and perhaps that is for the best. Perhaps it is better to not know these things. If that is indeed the case, then maybe I should just stop now and put this all down and then go home, even though I already am home.

I will follow this bit of writing back home, even though I am already there. Therefore, there is a chance that what I really mean is that the writing will come to where I am and it will try to work me out.

An interesting idea, but perhaps not the best one.

So anyway, I sit here and I continue to sit here and I try to knock this out. I need to get this done sooner rather than later, but I am also waiting for the writing to come over here so that I can complete it, but of course it already is here and what I’m really doing is hoping for something that is not actually a thing. However, it is a distraction and distraction is what I am here for. Maybe not right now and maybe not yesterday, but right now I am here and truthfully, I am ready to embrace distractions in all the various forms of which they come and find a way top perch themselves upon my shoulders and in front of my face.

I’m sure that I can resist so long as I actually bother to resist.

Anyway, now that that is out of the way I need to get to the part where I start wrapping this up. This bit of writing has gone on for far too long and I’m, sitting here, still tapping it out and hoping for the best, but the best won’t come as I’ve already gone far too long rambling on about things that don’t matter in the grand scheme of things. Still,, I did it and now I present it and you’re reading it and you’re not reading all of the spelling mistakes I made as I’ve cleaned them up before this reached a point where it would be read; that’s how crafty I am.

That said, I guess I really should look at wrapping this up. However, I don’t know what the words are that I want to use in order to get the point across, but there is no point and so I don’t know as to what it is that I am currently worrying about. Well, I guess it’s nothing at all and that’s not too bad, all things considered. There are worse things out there and so I will worry about those instead. Then again, maybe I won’t. Maybe I won’t worry about anything and instead just take it easy for the rest of the evening. I guess I’ll find out soon though.

Then again, maybe I won’t. It’s too early to tell.

The time it took to write one thousand words: 10:20:40

This is a mess. There’s some focus throughout, but overall just a big mess.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 1015: Giant Vortex

Three days off and three days of slowness. Three days of doing very little and perhaps that was what I needed. Who knows? It does not matter. What matters right now is that there is a giant vortex and I need to get away from it as it is pulling everything in and I don’t feel like going on a magical, exiting journey right now. What I do feel like is sitting here and continuing my reign of doing very little. That is the ideal thing. This vortex means that I need to move a little. Well, maybe a lot.

It means that I have to be active and being active is definitely not what I want to do right now. I want to sit here and relax and take it easy and do nothing for the rest of the day. I want the day to disappear behind me as I do little to do anything that might constitute proactive attitudes toward that which must be defeated (in a manner of speaking, of course), but alas, it is not to be. No, what is to be today is my getting away from this giant vortex as that needs to be taken care of in a manner that suggests tactical evasion.

But then again, for how long must this be a thing that I must undertake so as to avoid a thing that I need to avoid if I don’t want to have to deal with more, or something?

That is a question that I have no answer for, but I’m sure that with enough banging and clanging I might be able to find a way to get to an answer that makes sense.

Anyway, this thing is getting bigger and it is consuming the room and so now I need to get up and go away for a bit and hope that somehow this thing does not get any bigger than the room. I might need to go to another room and do other things for a while, or something.

I don’t really know where I’m going with this, but then again, neither does the giant vortex. Perhaps I can use that to my advantage somehow. Maybe I can somehow confuse and deceive it so much that it decides to dissipate and stop existing, and then I can get back to whatever it was that I was doing earlier. This might then let me get on with the other things, but predominantly the relaxing.

I do not know as to why I didn’t consider this as a possibility earlier, so really I think that now I should get on with the getting on and try this out and hope for the best and all of those other things. Then maybe I can get on with the getting on, but then again, it might just be too late. It might be too late to do anything so instead of doing anything I think that I might just sit here and wait.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 04:58:90

I was trying to do something with this, but I’m not sure what that something was meant to be, which likely is the main issue with this writing.

A Gull on Sand

A singular gull of the silver variety walking around on the sand.
There’s a few different tracks covering the sand which seems to create a sense of noise, if that makes sense. Makes it seem like the gull is lost in a way. Maybe.

This is my submission into Leanne Cole‘s “Monochrome Madness” for this week.
I suggest checking out Leanne’s photography, as well as checking out what other people submit.

A lot of what people are submitting will likely end up here.

I hope you enjoy.

Gulls on the Beach

So this photo is less about the gulls and more about the scenery, of which has this hard, industrial feel looming in the distance due to said distant area being industrial in nature.

Might feel less so if there were less cloud cover.

Other than that, I think there’s a nice colour balance here.

I hope you enjoy.

Facing La Perouse

The same bridge as in this photo, but from the other side.

This shot feels less moody. Perhaps a little too bright, but I like the way that brightness frames the land. Makes it feel a little more stark, I think.

I hope you enjoy.

Physical Expression

Here’s a photo of a dog.

There is a reason as to why this dog was pulling this particular face and pose, though I won’t provide the reason as it’s not interesting. However, I will say that I like the awkwardness of the dog’s form here, as well as it’s face.

This is my submission into the one hundred-and-seventy-first Lens-Artists Photo Challenge.

The theme for this one is “Weird and Wonderful“.

I think this one counts as the facial expression is a little weird, and dogs are considered wonderful.

The challenge is hosted by four people and cycles weekly:

Week 1 – Patti

Week 2 – Ann-Christine aka Leya

Week 3 – Amy

Week 4 – Tina

This one is curated by Leya. Amy curates the next one.

I recommend participating in the challenges. They’re enjoyable and allow room for interpretation of the theme without straying too far. If you don’t participate, then I recommend that you at least check out what others of the Lens-Artists community are submitting.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 1014: Exiting of the Room

And so it is that soon the exiting of the room must commence and the entering of the space outside of the room must conclude the events in between the exiting here and entering there. However, I don’t want to do it as there are other things that I want to do; namely, sitting here and doing nothing.

Perhaps there is a way for me to do both. If I can manage that, then perhaps I can get on with other things too. Perhaps there is a way to do both at once and that would be even better. However, none of these shall be considered. The only consideration that shall be had is the one that involves not leaving the room.

Now sure, it is much more pleasant out there than it is in here. Sure, there are things out there that I want to take care of and experience and all of those other things. There is a lot out there, actually. There also is a lot in here, but there is a lot out there. Still, I do not want to leave the room. I am kind of comfortable and besides, something something and so I shall keep on sitting here, doing very little and getting things out of the way in a manner that implies some sort of progress.

There’s a bit more light out there too, but here is where it is at, as they say. There are things around me that I can address right now and it’s a little uninviting, but again, I am kind of comfortable and so here is where I choose to situate myself in time and space. There is no other place I’d rather be, other than outside of this room of course.

Oh sure, I’d see more of the outside if I went outside, and sure, I can’t really see much of the room I’m in right now as I’m facing a computer monitor and need to spend time facing that, but I still am in this smaller, more constricted space. Even though outside has a bit more freedom to move about, I’m here, typing away and doing this thing and finding myself facing a thing that, in all honest, I don’t want to spend too much more of my day having to stare at, but changing this would require some effort.

I guess then what I should do is embrace the leaving of this room and entering what exists outside of this room, which is something outside of this room. I should probably face up to this. Instead of sitting here and hoping for continued comfort and avoiding things, I should go outside. I should see the outside world and experience what it is that is out there.

There is every possibility that I will do that sooner rather than later. Perhaps there are things out there that I can no longer put off, but of course there needs to be a journey from here to there.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 05:56:32

This was one of those ones that felt like a real struggle.
I think I was thinking too much about what I was writing and that affected the quality by more than I desired.

One Thousand Word Challenge 143: Muscle Twitch

Okay, so I will readily admit that there are far, far worse things out there that I could be experiencing right now, but do any of you know as to how annoying a muscle twitch in the thumb region is?

I do, as it is something that I’ve had to deal with over the past few days and it feels like this twitch’s reign of terror is going to continue today.

This is something that I am not looking forward to. Other than the inspiration for what is about to come, it is something that I don’t need in my life. There are other things out there that I consider to be far, far more important to me getting things done and the spasming of a muscle is not something I find helpful. It seems prohibitive and inhibitive.

Maybe it’s not a muscle but a nerve, or a vein, or something. I don’t know much about human anatomy however, so all I can do is speculate. Of course I could look up information and try and learn something here, but right now I don’t feel like learning about this as that gets in the way of writing and what I need to do is go full steam ahead and try and get my thoughts down now. I can then look things up later and then find them interesting and then refuse to go back and edit this to reflect such knowledge gained, assuming that my initial assumption is inaccurate, of course.

So anyway, this twitch is annoying. It is getting in the way of things and as it is getting in the way of things I don’t want it here. Sure, it was novel at first but now it is annoying. Some might even say frustrating. It torments and terrorises the lands and plagues the hearts of the masses, and tears at my sense of being able to get things done in a timely fashion and that is something that I just cannot stand for. There are other things that I can stand for, but when I am trying to get thoughts and words written down and trying to express those thoughts in a way that conveys the clarity needed to get such thoughts out. A twitching in the thumb region clouds thoughts and creates distractions. It gets in the way oaf achieving anything that could be considered a success of some sort and so I need it gone. I need it out of my life for a good long while and being out of my life is not what it is doing right now. It hangs over me like a dark apparition of some sort of evil, and I want it to get out of the way as it’s blocking the light with its darkness.

I want this thing gone and I know not how to get rid of it. Maybe this is something of which I need to prepare for. I need to arm myself with some sort of assortment of various forms of things that could be considered as weapons to combat such a terrible affliction that I have to deal with at the present moment.

Maybe I should not try and combat this and instead I should just try and learn to live with it. Maybe I can supersede the distraction with extreme focus after enough time spent accepting it as a thing that now exists in my life. Maybe I can do that, but then again, is that even possible? I don’t know. I don’t know anymore.

Oh, woe has befallen my existence and now my tormentor exists in a fashion that I ever thought possible. I didn’t think that it would ever come to this, but it has and now I must bear the weight of responsibility borne from consequence, though what it was that created this situation, I have no idea. I don’t think I will ever know and so I can only go on in a thick miasma of unknowing, wandering and stumbling blindly through the world, ever lost and never present to that which I need to be, and as such I don’t think I will ever recover.

There is always hope, but it rapidly diminishes and I need to accept my fate of having to wear this spasm for however long it decides to keep on tormenting me. Maybe it will be for a period known as an eternity, but it certainly feels like one at this stage.

I know not how to escape, or where I can go from here. All I know is that I am being consumed by the distraction and it is causing me to make errors in ways I never thought possible. I don’t know if this will ever end and I don’t know how it will end, but I know I certainly want it to end. I want this twitching to be gone and to never bother me ever again. I want to be free of the constricting prison it creates and I want to walk away from its massive impact on my ability to get anything done.

I want it gone. It is not an old friend; nor is it a friend at all. However, it certainly is a tenacious fiend that exists in a manner that serves only to disrupt and not harmonise. It is not wanted and not warranted. It is existing, but soon it needs to be dissipating.

Well, it needed to dissipate a while ago, but if now is not acceptable, then sooner would be much better than later.

I will face this happening and I will stare it down. Perhaps I will do no more than that, for I know not the correct way to proceed. However, I will make sure that I stare it down. That is probably the least that I can do.

For this particular moment in time, however, I will continue to curse it and bemoan my fate. Then I will bide my time.

The time it took to write one thousand words: 11:51:49

This both felt easy and challenging to write, and I’m not sure why.
I think there were times where I became conscious of my getting too much into repetition and I tried to veer away a bit. Not sure if I was successful.

Duster: Get the Dutch

This one was one listen which is something I’m glad for as I find it better to do these things in as few listens as possible. Less chance of overthinking which is that part of the aim of this exercise.

I think I started focusing on what was happening in the song and I kind of mixed a little bit of imagery and emotive content in. I think if I sat down and listened to “Get the Dutch” for a while and wrote something out based on what I’ve written here, I’d have something mostly well-written. Maybe I’ll come back to this one day.

Duster’s “Get the Dutch” is from Contemporary Movement.

I hope you enjoy.

Sounds echo on out into a stillness. A sense of bleakness pervades the sounds which is exacerbated by the sudden appearance of a shortly-ringing guitar and weighted percussion. It all hits and gels with a dryness and sense of sparseness, even though the sound is full.

Something in the background stretches out and underscores the sounds as they move together, continuing their lurch forward, though not for long. It is almost as though the sound is a vague object passed by during a drive in the dark.

For a brief moment the guitar pulls back and the song feels even more bare. Soon after it returns the instrumentation fills out more and low, quiet vocals spill forth lyrics drawn out in a seemingly-languid fashion. The percussion rolls and fuzzes, and the guitar drives more so. On the last words, however, it pulls back and almost naked guitar rings out as it fades out of view at the song’s end.

Honey Authentic

This was taken whilst waiting for junk food.

I feel like I may have gone a little too heavy with pushing the dark, but I like how it makes the photo feel that little bit emptier and quieter. That said, there are enough things in this photo that I feel make things a little bit less quiet, such as the oncoming traffic and the (admittedly few) people wandering about.

I hope you enjoy.
