A Poem About Crickets Chirping

Earlier on I had an idea for something heavy, though I don’t imagine I would’ve conveyed that well. Anyway, I started writing and scrapped it almost immediately. The idea required more thought than I have the energy for right now and so I knocked this out.

I think this is an okay rough draft.

I hope you enjoy.

The sound of crickets reaches this room
They are far and I am here
I hear them as they reinforce the weather
And create imagery association

As much as they are against the music
Somehow they find a way to fit
As they phase in and out of the rhythm
The crickets’ chirp keeps its own steadiness

Duster: Moon Age

This one was written over three listens.

I went more for imagery with this one.
It was slow starting, but I picked up speed and wrote most of this quite quickly.
I probably could’ve gone for something a bit more obviously progressive in terms of how the song flows, but I think I did alright.

Duster’s “Moon Age” is from Stratosphere.

I hope you enjoy.

Long, drawn out sounds and steady, spaced percussions fade in. They play a long, slow jam, almost as though a sense of either descending or expanding. Exploring. A hard darkness shines upon a monochromatic expanse pockmarked by various objects and shapes that seem as formless as they are distinct. Something shines and shimmers, flickering in and out, seemingly not there, and yet constantly present.

Stillness fills the space, though everything is of course moving along, and there is a peacefulness. There is a calm, though an undercurrent of an uncertainty remains.

For a brief moment form becomes more distinct and a few notes of subtle emotional swing play out, but most fade out, leaving the percussion on its lonesome, playing carefully and playing with space as the song ends.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 1013: Racing Once More

And so once more, after a great deceleration, the acceleration returns and is accelerating.

The acceleration is accelerating. Anyway.

So it is time to pick up speed and go racing once more. Need to go around the bends and see where they lead. Need to get ahead of the pack. Need to find out what there is that is not always there due to being obscured in ways most fantastic. Need to find out the things that need to be found out and all that other stuff.

Sometimes none of that really matters and all that needs to be done is the getting ahead of the pack and focusing on where the road leads. Sometimes it does not lead to places most desirable, but the finish line is beyond and if it can be seen, then it can be reached. If it cannot be seen, it still can be reached. Therefore, it needs to be reached.

Then again, perhaps it does not need to be reached at all and what needs to be done is the path forward needs to be found. Perhaps that path forward involves not racing whatsoever and as such, the race needs to be left. There needs to be a going to elsewhere and then discovering that elsewhere. Maybe there will be some sitting on a car and watching the sun disappear as day transitions to night, but of course you wouldn’t want to do that for too long as, whilst driving in the dark is fun, it also is a little more dangerous and I think it would be better to avoid any unnecessary danger.

So anyway, I guess the point that I’m trying to make here is that this does not need to be a race. However, I might just keep treating it as such as I want to get to the finish line in under the minute amount of five, even though I have a minute amount of ten. Maybe that means I should switch this to being under five minutes from here on in. That could create a lot more pressure than necessary, however, and so I need to carefully consider this idea, but I might just forget. In fact, I will just forget and then not think about such a thing until many days or months from here. Then again, I might think about it in a few hours again. Don’t know and it is not something that I’m overly concerned with, or concerned with at all for that matter.

What I am concerned with, however, is getting this bit of writing done and then racing ahead and getting in front of the pack. I need to follow the route that is set out and then get to the finish line before all the others so that many more races can be had, and joy may be experienced for a few fleeting seconds, or something.

Then again, maybe there will be no joy and instead it’ll just be mostly continuous racing.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 05:21:79

There is a bit more obvious seriousness in this one than some of the other recent rambles, but I think I put in too much clutter.

One Thousand Word Challenge 142: Ploughing Ahead

Once more the race is on. It is between the sensible and the ridiculous and I am just spectating, or so I would like for myself to believe.

Still, it is a race and it is a race against responsibility and once more that’ll mean that this bit of writing gets mangled. I also need to find a way to beat the spasm in my thumb as it is annoying, but that will have to come later as shenanigans at their worst need to come first.

There are a lot of things that need to come first, actually, and so perhaps there is an order of what needs to be the most first needs to be organised.

Wait.

An order from what needs to be the most first to the least first is what needs to be organised. However, that would involve admitting a complete and utter failure to be responsible about anything and so that is not something that, at the present moment, I wish to engage in and handle. Perhaps I can get someone else to handle such a thing, but that would require effort and effort is not something that I want to make use of at the moment. There are other things out there that I’d prefer to make use of at the moment, such as my ability to shirk work for as long as possible before I inevitably have to face  up to my failings and start tackling the pile, lest it grow far too unwieldy and therefore prevents me from getting anything done.

Now that I think about it, that too requires an effort that I am not willing to expend and so therefore perhaps the day should be spent lying very still in one position, drifting in and out of sleep and hoping that somehow everything resolves itself. That would be a dream of sorts and it could be the wrong dream to pursue, but still, it is a dream of which I would very much like.

I would lie down and start drifting off, but then I would probably get restless, now that I think about it. I would start thinking about how I need to do things and those things would need doing and so I would likely get up after about an hour, or even less. IJ would get up and start doing things, but I would not do them well and so I would have a bit of a mess on my hands, but it would be a mess of my own creation.

Then again, perhaps there would be no mess whatsoever. Perhaps that, even in my state of not doing these things well I would somehow manage to get them done well enough and then if they are done well enough I can then claim the art of success being at hand, though even if there was a mess, there still would be some sort of success; it just would be to a lesser extent, or a different form, but even so, perhaps that is good enough for this particular time and this particular day.

I don’t have much time left before I need to switch gears and so this part is the part where I cram as much as I can into a confined space and then hope for the best whilst expecting the worst. This isn’t the best way to write, but still, it is a form of writing and it gets the clutter out of the way. Getting clutter out of the way is good, but you also need to sort through it on the odd occasion and make sure that everything is eventually put away in a neat fashion. Perhaps even a tidy fashion.

The point is that sometimes you need to make sure that you clean up your mess, even if you don’t want to as you don’t want to leave a mess lying about. Someone might trip over it, or find their path blocked by all the mess and waste and other things and all those other, other things. You don’t want to be obstructing people from getting on with their day (unless it is necessary, of course) and so sometimes you need to return to things and clean up in a way that is better than leaving the mess strewn about, creating  a situation where people have to tread carefully unless they don’t want to show respect for the glorious mess that was created and instead just trudge and stomp over the whole thing, which, if an art installation based on the concept variety, might just improve the whole thing due to adding some sort of commentary about how people don’t care, or do care, or something.

There are so many ways to read these things and sometimes, due to that, the artist’s intent no longer matters. Maybe. However, it is important to consider the intent of the artist as it can help better contextualise things and all those other things that I want to say that make me sound fancy, but I won’t as there are other, far more important things to worry about at the moment and so I will worry about those.

So anyway, today is a day where I want to avoid doing things and so avoiding doing things is what I will do my best to do, but to be honest, I don’t actually know if I can get away with it and so soon I will face the act of responsibility. The ridiculous might not win this race after all, and so that is something else that needs to be considered as carefully as possible.

Of course there are other things to consider but right now is the time to be thinking about that. Right now is the time for me to keep on ploughing ahead and forging my own path toward whatever it is that I am ploughing toward.

I don’t know yet, but I’m sure a work memo will help with my knowing.

This one has a bit of repetition, but it also feels more focused to me.

Drifting Over

This was taken during a recent trip to The Blue Mountains.
It’s just a photo easy on the eyes. Nothing special, though I do like how much of the landscape feels small in comparison to the clouds, and how the clouds’ shadows seem to erase detail.

I hope you enjoy.

The Afghan Whigs: Toy Automatic

Three listens for this one.

I was just looking to describe the song (I think) and I did alright in that regard.
However, I feel as though I could’ve fleshed this out a lot more.

The Afghan Whigs’ “Toy Automatic” is from In Spades.

I hope you enjoy.

A big and steady beat ushers in the other instruments which then proceed to draw out in a harmonious flow, rich in sound and melody. Soon vocals call out, mostly short and punchy, with the occasional longer passage.

A new sound arpeggiates along the rhythm as the instruments repeat their previous section. However, instead of progressing to something new they hold on a section.

Soon the drums shift and the instruments flourish. The beat is more defined and punctual, and the vocals soar for a moment. Brass comes in and once more there is a sense of holding, drawing out the moment and jamming on it for shifting. Once leaving the section the music seems to flourish even more. Rich in tone, beautiful and driving. It sounds joyous in a way that may belie a sadness, even as the vocals float and drift over the prettiness.

At the right moment the instruments hit on a note of finality and let a warmth briefly flow as the song ends.

One Thousand Word Challenge 141: Thursday’s Lengthy Ramble

The clock starts ticking and the music is peaceful, but only for so long as it soon will become chaotic. Then again, maybe it won’t; it all depends on what the flow of the day provides, and part of that flow of course is controlled by my doing things and how I go about doing them an all of those other wonderful things that we include in our lives as they traverse periods that transcend eons, though only if said periods last long enough to transcend eons, of course.

Perhaps this is something that is best spent thinking about at a later date, but today’s date suggests that perhaps today is the time to think about these things as that is the way that things go on certain days.

So anyway, where was I? I’m already in this far and cannot for the life of me work out as to where I was going with all of this. Then again, perhaps it is due to being this far in that I have no idea as to where I am going. I still need to feel my way through all of this and see where it all leads and all of those other things and so on and so forth and you get the idea.

So I guess now this bit of writing is about stumbling my way toward finding out what this writing is about, though I don’t need to do any of that as I already know as to what this bit of writing is about and all I’m doing by writing all of this out is postponing the inevitable which is something I need to stop doing as doing that means this drags out and it takes longer to get to whatever it is that I am looking to get to, and really no one wants that to happen. We all want this to be over sooner rathe than later, but there are so many more words to go and so with all of those words needing to be written out, I need to find a way to buy time so that I can get onto something. Sure, it’s a way to drag things out far beyond what is necessary, but at this point it is what I need to do and so I am doing it so that it can be done and so on and so forth and all of those other things.

So anyway, I am here and you are there and there are people walking around and I am mashing out words and hoping that it all makes sense in some way, but these are all things that I’ve said before and so I need to stop saying them and find new things to say, but if I say new things then I might not be able to refine the old things so that they keep growing in their sleekness and the other things of which they need to grow in so as to be more effective as things being said in a manner that implies that they are said, or something. With that being said, of course I also need to think of other things that need to be said as there are more things that are being said than they are done and I need to go back to pretending that I don’t know what this bit of writing is about so I can keep on stumbling along in a manner that implies that I am looking, but in the wrong ways.

I also need to make my sentences shorter.

Maybe that will happen today. Maybe it will not. However, what we do know is that the charade will be kept up at some point in the future. It might not be done well, for I cannot be bothered with the effort required to prop up such a great big lie, but with that being said I still will provide some effort toward the effort of doing so. It just won’t be much and therefore you should not expect too much from me in that regard, for I need to spend my time and energy elsewhere to prop up other great big lies and hope that the whole thing doesn’t collapse in on itself. If it does, then I know not what it is that I will do. However, what I do know is that I will continue on and walk out from the rubble and pretend that the mess isn’t there as I keep on searching for what this bit of writing means and what it is all about.

There likely is no subject other than the one that is coming forth and therefore it may be easy for me to mislead myself in ways I did not expect. Perhaps these ways will be new and exciting and find themselves propped up in manners that were unforeseen, and will remain as surprising as they are expected. There is no telling at this particular juncture in time and so what I will do is keep on writing in the hopes that I can mislead and deceive, and then find my way across the plains of expansion that seem to be bound by no mountains or other form of terrain. The horizon will sit somewhere off in the distance and all those other things as I keep walking and pretending and avoiding consequence as much as I can.

Then again, there are other options too and those should not be ignored, for if they are ignored…

So anyway, I think I’ve worked out as to what it is that this bit of writing is about, but I don’t know if I can keep on going on about whatever it is and is not and so I will just wrap this up very shortly. There are other things I need to take care of and this has gone on for far, far too long. Therefore, in this sentence, I will end this lengthy ramble.

The time it took to write one thousand words: 10:52:04

I think, upon having a look over this, I need to start focusing more on shorter, punchier sentences. Maybe. This is a little more aimless than usual and I want to try and reign that in a bit.

Old and New

Left side is the new one.

I wasn’t at the best vantage point when I took this photo, but I think it turned out okay.
There’s a decent amount of detail and texture, and there’s almost a sense of development history.

The buildings feel tall, which is good as they are tall buildings.

This is my submission into Leanne Cole‘s “Monochrome Madness” for this week.
I suggest checking out Leanne’s photography, as well as checking out what other people submit.

A lot of what people are submitting will likely end up here.

I hope you enjoy.

One Thousand Word Challenge 140: Need to Energise

Alright, so there is a need to energise. There is a need to push past this fatigue and I need to do it and I need to do it soon, for it is having an impact on the day of work and that is a big no for me at the moment as I need to work and push on through the day and then get to the end of it which is when I will truly be able to rest. However, right now I need to tackle whatever it is that has be drained.

I imagine that it is a lack of energy, but I am unsure as to how I can go about proving that this is indeed the case. There could be many confounding factors and perhaps they conceal the true reason, which I guess they would due to their ability to confound, which also means they likely have the ability to distort. It’s a bit of an issue, let me tell you.

Of course, I could try and brainstorm ideas for tests and then put those tests into practice, but at the same time that isn’t something I quite want to do as that would mean needed to put in a base level of effort into thinking of things that I could do that would help with the process of testing and, let me tell you, that also is something I don’t want to do.

I guess I already said that, but I’ll let it slide this one time, even though there will be plenty more times in which I let such a thing slide off into the distance and out of view. Perhaps it will return to haunt my waking days, but for now it is not something of which I feel is necessary to worry about as I have other things to worry about, such as getting more energised.

Therefore, this first thing is now ruled out and therefore I’ll just get to the part where I throw things at the problem and hope that one of the things works in a manner that implies resolution as then I’ll have the issue resolved and I’ll be able to get back on with the living of the life that is the one that is mine and once there I’ll be ale to get on with doing other things in a manner that implies progress.

Now said progress would be full of wonderful desires and amazing creations, and none of them would in any way, shape or form seem faulty. They would all be perfect and they would be so perfect that there would be no stopping their being perfect. In fact, perhaps they would be so perfect that they would not be perfect in the slightest.

Perhaps it would be better for the things to not be perfect. In fact, it probably would be better for these things to not be perfect in the slightest, for if they were, then… well, I guess you can improve upon perfection, but that’s beside the point. In fact, I might suggest that there has been a major digression and so I need to find a way to get back to the topic at hand.

I’ve surrounded myself by a mass of thickets and I’ve no idea as to the way out, and therefore I need to cut my way through, which I guess is the way out, in which case I do know the way out. Funny how that just worked out.

So anyway, I don’t have any tools with me and so I’m going to need to cut my way through using my bare hands. However, I don’t want to really do that, but thankfully there is another option that has revealed itself to me and therefore I will take this new option as it means I’ll be able to save some time and get through the thing and then move onto whatever it is that I need to move onto.

Now, I need to try and remember what it is that I’m trying to do. It has been so long and this bit of writing has gone on for so long that I can no longer see where I started. It all seems so far away and off in the distance beyond the distance beyond what it is that remains in a state of visibility, and I know not what it is that I can do to resolve the issue at hand. Such is the way of things.

Maybe I have gone so far that there is no turning back now. Maybe I need to only look forward, but I don’t know as to which way forward would now be. This is an issue that I have let myself fall into, for I was surrounded by the mass of thickets for so long and now that I have escaped by gently moving them out of the way, the world has changed, and so have I. However, we have changed in different ways and what I thought was no longer is. This is a place that I have abandoned in error, though perhaps it too has abandoned me.

We went our separate ways and now all that I see is unfamiliar and fantastic and perhaps frightening, and so I now have realised that I cannot adapt to this world that is now present. I don’t know if this is all something I can embrace and integrate myself into, and so I feel that the only option I have is to walk away from it and look off into a distance that is so far beyond seeing that it almost seems like it does not exist in any way, shape or form.

I gather my things and I start making my way, and in doing so I look for a sense of solace and calm and acceptance so I can reconcile that which I have lost with that which I now am, and so the journey begins anew.

The time it took to write one thousand words: 11:20:47

I wasn’t expecting this to veer into some sort of fiction, but it did and so here we are.

Sort of fast to write. Became less messy the further it went, which may be a good thing.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 1012: Fatigued Rambling

How good is being fatigued?

Well, it’s not actually that good but I didn’t have anything else to use to start this bit of writing off so that’s what I’m going for at this present and pressing moment in time where I try to knock out the whole series of words that I need to knock out in a short amount of time so as to be able to continue on with the other things so I can ride a vestibule formed from corpuscles down a lengthy slope that never seems to end due to never ending.

It’s not a fun time, let me tell you.

So anyway, I feel that now is the time to make the big revelation that all have been waiting for, but I don’t know where I’ve left it and so rambling about things in no particular order is the order of the day, as they say. Don’t know if I can get away with it, but I’m sure that if I struggle through this bit of writing for long enough, then the end of the writing will be revealed and maybe we’ll find that missing big revelation, though that is of course assuming that I even want to find it, which I do, but also don’t as that would mean then that I have to anchor myself to something and I’m not wanting to anchor myself to something. I’m more interested in drifting off and away and letting all that is flow forward in a matter that seems as random and chaotic as it does not, for that is the way that I will ride the waves onto the shoreline of my own imagination. Of course, that is assuming that I am even entertaining my imagination this morning.

I’m not. Or am I?

So anyway, I’m up to this point and now I need to work out how to proceed as there is no telling as to which way is the forward direction that I need to follow, but of course there is and so I’m just bluffing and all those other things. What I am not doing, however, is allowing for a sense of linearity, though if you do read this it is probably pretty obvious as to how I got from the start to this point, but that’s not something I want to address and so therefore I won’t and no one can make me address that, even though everyone can make me address that as it is something that exists and something something and I don’t know as to where I’m going with this.

I guess, what it is that I am truly saying is that there will be no revelation of the big variety today, which may have been a revelation if I hadn’t already alluded and strongly suggested such a thing, but on the plus side I managed to use the word “corpuscles” in here and for that, I have a small, yet smug satisfaction, so there you go.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 05:47:73

Well, not really smug, nor any satisfaction.
This one is a tired mess as I’m more tired than usual. That’s my excuse.
