SUMAC: May You Be Held

This was mostly written during one listen.
I’m fairly certain I could’ve finished this off a few weeks ago. Not sure why I didn’t, but here we are.

Most of the editing I did was removing some stuff and doing some slight rewording. However, I left most of this as is as I needed to move on. I’m sitting on too many drafts and need to get on top of them. As such, this is fairly loose and doesn’t quite illustrate what I wanted.

Most of my interview and review work now appears on Culture Eater.
My colleague and I set up a Patreon to further develop Culture Eater as a source of good quality arts coverage from both ourselves and our contributors.

We’re looking at what we can give to supporters as we don’t want to set up a one way relationship, so suggestions are welcome. Podcast Eater is one of the things we’ve got going and (aside from the next few weeks) new episodes are available through there first.

Please consider supporting, or at least sharing the Patreon page with others. Please also check out what our wonderful contributors are contributing.

I hope you enjoy.

May You Be Held commences with a crawl. A low, deep and pressured crawl. In a way it’s almost meditative and deconstructed, and perhaps that’s the point of “A Prayer for your Path”. Eventually some vocals come in, distant and gritted, gravelly, adding perhaps more shape to the procession, and perhaps hinting at something fundamentally off and tortured. There’s a calm in all of this, an acceptance, but also a harshness; a hardness.

“May You Be Held” comes next and starts as a chugathon. A bit of a melodic one at first. Once the song kicks up there’s some hollering and, even though this is clearly some angular attack, it almost feels like there’s gonna be a hoedown. Once vocals establish properly the song becomes more harsh, angular and jangly in a manner.

May You Be Held feels a little more like a journey than previous SUMAC albums. The group preserve a strong sense of improvisation that helps in places as the songs move from section to section, but there still remains an aimlessness that doesn’t always hit the mark. The title track is a lengthy and at times wonderful track. However, like a number of others here, it hits points of excess, providing diminishing returns. Lengthy noise sections done well are great, but by the time one kicks in the song already has touched on so many things and committed to so few of them. It feels as though SUMAC weren’t sure how to progress the track and were trying to buy time, but there already was more than enough afforded.

Near its end “May You Be Held” becomes a starkly different, sludgier song. It’s very much less expansive and more compressed in sound; a better way to put it is that the song is not as abrasive as it could be, and that’s probably beneficial. Eventually the chugfest returns from wherever it went and now the band stomp like quiet giants. Eventually after that noise returns, though more distorted and once more it sees something more defined come in behind it. It’s almost the band unraveling and trying to get back on course, which they do, in time for more heaviness.

“The Iron Chair” starts with more noise. Very careful and spaced. From there it goes into a rather chaotic menace, a slight pause, then more menace. The section is almost free-form and perhaps evocative of the torture device, with the spaces between either being the finality of its conclusion or someone being lead to one, and the blasts being the torturing.

Eventually a slow drum roll and then vocals come in. Drone sets a scattered, expansive landscape, whilst remaining claustrophobic. Some tinkering comes into play which leads to a growing mass that builds but doesn’t seem to increase, if that makes sense. Perhaps it is the dismantling of the chair.

“Consumed” is the next big track, and it’s very bottom-heavy. At first. Drones harsh to hearing whilst something low that sounds like it could be a band playing far off in the distance goes on. Percussion eventually comes in and plays this bouncing, reflecting groove. Guitar continues the drone with a bit more riffage. Percussion transforms and noise wails in the background. Once bass properly establishes itself the group keep riding the moment, slowly shifting and getting closer to ground. The harsh vocals call out and eventually SUMAC shift into more of a heave and throb, riding the moment and stretching it out once more.

A quiet section makes an appearance holding dread and a sense of inevitability. It’s (relatively) terse, and once it lets up menace takes over as a great foreboding spreads across the music. Angular riffage against thick bass and spread percussion push on until it comes to an end and the guitar tries to sustain, unable to do so and trails off, seeing the return to noise. Harsh, buzzing and once more vocals come in, adding more form whilst seemingly following the noise.

It’s on “Consumed” where all the disparate ideas come together and congeal the best. Even the final hardcore / sludge blast feels like it belongs and like a progression more so than it does something just shoved in; especially when it takes a brief pause, then comes back and just magnifies in intensity.

“Laughter and Silence” starts off the most direct of all of the album’s songs. Probably the calmest and most peaceful too. It moves through many phases, touching on a few moods, including sadness in an expanded manner. It also touches on some peacefulness too. Eventually the guitar finds itself stuck; the drones, warm though grandiose, approach the forefront before falling back. The guitar has diminished, disintegrated and plinks out a metallic call. After embracing space for a while the percussion also fades. From there, the song ends mostly with a few drops breaking the silence. It’s a rather peaceful way to end the album.

Perhaps “erratic” is the best way to describe May You Be Held. It feels both more and less focused, and that extends over a good portion of the album as a whole. Individually the sections are great; Just really solid, exploratory, hard-hitting things. When taken as a whole is when problems come forth. It’s difficult to fault SUMAC as a group; There’s no denying that they don’t want to rest on their laurels. They’re furthering a sound here and making it more their own and they often sound confident in their delivery of said sound.

I can’t say that May You Be Held is a bad album; It really delivers when it needs to. I also can’t say that there isn’t room for improvement. The improvisational feel of SUMAC’s work needs refinement. They’re getting better at it, but they’re also too willing to either drag things out or skip through things too much. The result is that the album drags in some parts and skips ahead before fully developing in others. It’s album, though not without room for improvement.

May You Be Held is available here.

One Thousand Word Challenge 147: Toward Work

It was early in the morning. Still dark outside, but the first hints of sunlight were creeping their way into the space of which was inhabited by one sole person. There were others in the house, but this room was entirely this singular person’s and in this room they had chosen to exist and ensure that their existence was known. Perhaps it was not known outside of this room and this singular person was nothing more than an indistinguishable face in a crowd, but in this room they were the ruler of their kingdom and there was none who could take that way from them… yet.

They had been awake for a while, unable to sleep and unable to rest. They had tried; they had tried for hours. However, it was not to be and so they found themselves reaching a state of frustration that held until it passed as resignation to their inability to change the situation came to take over and take hold. There was something comforting in that, they thought, as it meant  that they were accepting this minor and pointless situation as one they had to ride out.

Of course, however, it had to occur on a day of work and it was a day where many a thing needed to come to pass before it had come to a close, and being in a state of low amounts of sleep was not conducive to engaging with such a day.

Slowly the outside world, or at least the small visible parcel of the outside world became brighter and it meant that they had to get up sooner rather than later. They could no longer postpone the inevitable and so they rose up out of bed and went through their usual routine of rushing about to get out of the house as soon as possible. They’d gotten it down to somewhere between fifteen and eighteen minutes, mostly through the elimination of breakfast at home. They liked to be early to work as it meant they had time to relax a little before their work day started, and so having breakfast there fit into that, they felt.

It also meant they wouldn’t have to worry about peak hour transport.

It was not long before they were out their front door and on the way to the bus stop. However, the bust stop they would walk to on this particular day was not the bus stop nearest top them, for there was a need to walk. There was a need to stretch their legs, for despite their having their own private kingdom, they felt cramped by it. They felt constrained and it was only in walking as much as they could they were able to feel as though they could soar, in a manner of speaking.

They walked along the road that went the majority of the length of their walk and they appreciated the views of water behind a fence. Industrial work was within vicinity and served as a reminder of the area’s factory history. Various new buildings served as a reminder for the area to do its best to forget that history as developers tried to present the place as bohemian in the way that all the new buildings could be considered bohemian had they been the only structures of their ilk on the area. Really it was just unfiltered gentrification serving no one but the developers as they slowly erased the social and cultural history of the area.

Soon water was no longer visible and others walking along to various areas came into view. Sure, there were a few along the way, but it seemed as though some became clusters the closer to the city they walked. Still, there remained plenty of room to walk around and stay on the footpath at an accelerated rate and so they kept on walking.

Traffic lights slowed the walking down, but these only served to provide pause for thought, not that there was any pause needed. They were on their way to work and they were so entrenched in routine that it was easy enough for them to be lost in thought without finding themselves in a situation where they may be physically engaged with traffic.

Perhaps the pause was necessary, however, as it created a pause in the rhythm. It gave the rhythm a rest and in that rest there could be time to prepare for faster walking, for over the road the path widened as it crossed a bridge that led into the city proper.

The tall structures of the city loomed off in the near distance. Soon their imposing height would engulf all and, even though the sun shone down on the area, there would be no seeking shade. None would be left wanting as the sun seemingly became invisible to most in the city.

Across the bridge and into the city proper they went and soon they found themselves desiring to return to their kingdom, for it was theirs and even though the city was free for roaming, it was not what they felt was rightfully theirs and they’d have preferred it be removed, or at the very least diminished. It was as imposing as it was uninviting, cold to the various small people that would pass through it every day. At least their trek through the urban development would be short, for they were soon to go underground to catch their train that would lead only slightly away from this particular region of the city. Their work place was one that was still firmly within the urban grip, but there was more space around them. Even so, it did not feel like an escape, but more a brief respite, for the moment they entered their office, despite time to relax, a day requiring much work lay ahead and on little sleep it was not a fun prospect. Still, despite desiring to turn around they went in, for their routine was performative, yet wholly required.

I think going a little slower helped, though I hadn’t intended to go slower and was more forced to do so as I was thinking a bit about what I was writing.

A rather slow, writing, and rather dry.

Muted?

I can’t think of the right words. Maybe dull. Don’t know.

Peter Gabriel: Red Rain

One listen for this one.

I’ve been meaning to do this for a few days. Not sure as to why I hadn’t until now, but here it is and I’m not sure if it’s specific or vague.

Probably doesn’t matter too much.

Peter Gabriel’s “Red Rain” is from So.

I hope you enjoy.

A hi-hat fades into view, along with a low hum in the background. The loud percussive strike and more sounds come forth, grand and massive in their presentation. The song fully blooms and Peter Gabriel’s voice comes in, husky, emotive and clear.

A shift in the flow and the music embraces a bit of space to help define its rhythm. Various sounds float in and out, driven mostly by the synth. The vocals become increasing excited before a sudden shift back to the opening, now functioning more as a chorus. Low and dramatic, though only compared to the verses.

And so it cycles back until yet another chorus, which then is followed by the instruments allowed a bit more breathing. The drama and drive stretch a bit more as keys move over the drum beat. Eventually the vocals come back to build on what is happening, feeling as free as they do controlled.

Once more a chorus, though seemingly with livelier percussion and a greater sense of melancholy. Then another shift and Peter Gabriel wails over the music for a brief period of the instruments getting about as loud and dramatic as they can.

Once more to the chorus. At a point the instruments start to pull away, leaving little behind Peter Gabriel’s voice as he continues to sing of the red rain coming down all over him at the song’s end.

One Thousand Word Challenge 146: Consistent Ebb

And so slowly things ebb away at a rate that could be described as consistent, and it probably is, but for all I know I know nothing about any of this and it’s all just some hoopla I’ve invented in my mind so as to justify some sort of dramatic nature in the words that I use and so I will just keep on keeping on, even though right now I just need to crash. I don’t need to permanently crash, but for a little bit. I don’t want to permanently crash as that would mean that I miss out on a few things I am not prepared to miss out upon. Therefore a short nap would be required.

So anyway, I’m sitting here and I’m still tired and I’m knocking this out in a fashion that may be considered as “perfunctory”, and yet I don’t think I can do anything else. I am on a track of which I am required to follow, and follow it I am, as is the way of these things. Still, I can’t help but feel as though I should exit and derail soon as I need to find other things to do and other things to write about.

Of course there is something queued up in a manner of speaking, and that queuing up will reveal itself as something a little bit later. However, for now I knock this out and I write these words and I write them as though I have no choice but to write them, though perhaps that has to do with repetition, for I have written these words many times and I am sure that I will write them again. I will of course try to change that, but right now is not the time for trying to change that as there are other things of which I need to take care of and those things require some sort of order of priority, but of course I’ve written that many, many times and will continue to do so.

It is almost as though this is some sort of vicious circle that I refuse to leave and so in that refusal to leave I keep on churning out the same thing over and over and there is no changing that. Well, there is changing that, but even though I insist that I want to change that I don’t and so the same thing keeps getting said in the same way and all that happens is that more of the same is produced in a way that clearly states that it is more of the same. Sure, it could be less, but it is more and as it is more it is more than less and so it just keeps on going.

One might be able to say that this is foundation upon foundation and I need to start building something else. However, I would suggest that the foundation is yet to be completely finished and so I need to finish it off. Of course I would be lying to myself if I said that, but sometimes that’s just the way these things go. Sometimes you lie to yourself as you don’t want to face up to the thing that you’re doing and so in lying to yourself nothing changes and you keep on going headlong into an issue that you know exists when the exit is right there. The exit is right next to the issue and yet you keep on ignoring it as for some reason you want to keep running into the issue.

Now I don’t know what I am saying with this, though truthfully I do. However, with that being said and all of those other things, what I’m really saying is that I don’t want the things to change.

Then again, maybe I’m saying something else entirely and I’m refusing to admit that I’m saying anything else entirely. Therefore, what I’m really saying is nothing at all. All of this continues to be meaningless, though at least it is a form of exercise that I can get behind, and exercise is a good thing to engage in if you can. Otherwise, if you can’t, then maybe it’s not a good thing to engage in.

There probably are a lot of things that are both good and bad, depending on the situation, and maybe that’s something that requires a bit more rumination than I’d allow myself within the confines of whatever this is, but still, perhaps there is a bit more that can be said than what is being said right now, and perhaps that is something that I should look at revisiting at some point in the future.

Maybe.

Anyway, with all of that being said, here is where this bit of thing wraps up, though perhaps I’m calling it a little too early. I need to make sure that I get what I get done and in a timely fashion, but right now I’m writing the ending and hoping that it all comes together in a way that makes as much sense as necessary. Maybe it won’t make sense at all and maybe that is the point, but I’m not sure if I’ll be able to get that across in a sensible manner. Still, maybe time will tell. Maybe time will reveal everything that is being said here as being far more rubbish than I want to believe that it is. Then again, maybe time will reveal the subtle, yet effective genius I employed throughout all of this writing (and elsewhere) and suddenly all will become clear and as profound as it always was meant to be.

I wish.

Anyway, I’m just rambling now so I think that I should look at truly closing this bit of writing off. Not sure how, or as to which words I’ll use, but I have a feeling that they will come to me sooner or later.

Obviously I hope sooner, but of course later will do fine.

The time it took to write one thousand words: 11:05:53

This is probably the most openly personal thing I’ve written in a while.  Probably.
Then again, maybe I’ve said very little when it comes to personal stuff. Who knows?

I think I could’ve worded a number of things better here, but that’s not really saying much.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 1019: New Morning, New Month

A new morning in a new month at the start of a new week.

What are the odds?

Well, I don’t know, but it’s probably one, as it is something that would happen eventually, will happen again and has happened before. However, that’s not for here right now and so I will just get on with my merry rambling.

I feel awake. I feel alive. I feel as though I could do a little bit more than I did yesterday, which was not much. Therefore, a lot will happen today. However, when I say “a lot” what I actually mean is “not much”. Therefore, all of this rambling is as toothless as most of my rambling and therefore nothing will happen.

Then again, many things will happen. There will be plenty of things that happen as there are always things that are happening. Maybe there won’t be much within the confines of this room, but there will be plenty that happens outside. People will walk, talk, laugh, cry, feel pain and maybe even feel joy. Some people will be driving and some won’t be driving. There will be some who do things and some who won’t do things.

Clouds will drift on over certain areas and over certain areas they won’t make an appearance. Some will have a menacing appearance but end up being empty posturing; others will not have a menacing appearance and maybe rain heavily. Maybe there won’t be heavy rain at all.

The ocean will crash against rocky shorelines and it will also crash against sand. It will be as still as it is restless and it will continue to move in ways that seem majestic and violent in equal measure. The smell of the ocean will rise on up the cliffs and it will feel as serene as it does raging.

Birds will provide some sort of audible sound out there as they flap on about, moving to where they need or want to be, and other animals will engage in various activities that suggest motion or movement. The world will be as alive as it has ever been, and I will be in here, doing the things that I need to do and experiencing very little, although some might say that it is quite a lot. However, it feels like little and perhaps that has to do with where focus lies as the passage of time exerts its force upon all that is around.

I guess what I’m trying to say is that even though there is a lot that is happening it does not feel as such and as such I don’t feel as though a lot is happening. Still, I persist and I exist and I continue on the path that I’m following which is the one that involves doing this and getting that and trying to work out what it is that is making the sound outside.

It’s probably a bunch of birds doing their bird things upon some sort of metal.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 06:31:28

This one felt like a bit of a struggle. I’d undergone a sudden bout of fatigue whilst writing and slowed down a fair bit. That said, I think I got something across.

One Thousand Word Challenge 145: Writing a Thing

So I was writing this thing about a hike and I was going to stretch it out as much as I could, but I don’t think I’m awake enough for such writing at the present moment. As such, instead I’m going to write about something else.

There is a concern that I might just fall asleep as I do this. If I do, the timer won’t stop. It will keep on going and if it keeps on going whilst I am asleep when I am not meant to be asleep, then I shall end up causing issues for myself as the timer needs to be stopped but it would be up to me to stop it and I would not be able to as I may just very well be in a place called the place of dreams, which is in a state of dreaming.

I don’t know if I would definitely want to be there, but all things considered it is not the worst place to be. There are other, far worse places to be and surely that must account for something at the end of the day in a series of days where there are attempts to account for something, if anything at all.

Sop anyway, I would be there and I would be embracing the dream logic that comes with being in a state of dreaming as I likely would lack the option of choice, though I certainly would have the illusion of the option of choice presented to me and as such I would actually be at the mercy of wherever this land of dreaming would lead and take and push and coerce and direct and all of those other things. It would all be a very specific and wonderful thing, though perhaps also terrifying in places. I need to remember that it could be terrifying.

Maybe it would be completely terrifying and that would of course be something that I would need to deal with in one way or another. If I didn’t deal with it, then that’s on me. If I did deal with it, well… I guess that is still on me. Then again, I don’t know as to how I’d go about dealing with something if I didn’t have a choice or say in the matter. I guess I’d be in a bit of a pickle, though of course I’d come out of it all okay as it would just be dreaming and I’d eventually wake up from it and I’d be safe, though perhaps a little perturbed. Not sure if I’d want to wake up feel such a way, but I would and so that is also something that I’d need to grapple with, though on the plus side the feeling would likely fade pretty quickly and therefore I’d just be able t0o get on with whatever it is that I’d need to get on with.

However, there also is the possibility that I’d have a pleasant dream due to being in a state of having pleasant dreams and then I’d wake up feeling fine. However, I’m not sure if I’d want that either. Maybe I want some sort of balance between the two and then I could ride that off into the sunrise, though it’d probably be better to ride off away from the sunrise as riding into the path of the sun isn’t exactly a good idea. It’d be right in front of me and I’d have to deal with its existence and the light would be hurting my eyes and all of that other stuff. That and I don’t have a horse of which I can ride around upon and so it’d be more like a long slow march toward oblivion, or something.

Perhaps I’m overthinking this whole thing and what I really should be considering is the need to not fall asleep whilst I write this as I’m writing at the present moment and the need to get this done before the next thing is more important than what could happen if I fall asleep.

I’m not sure if I can get to the end of this without falling asleep, but if I do I need to find a way to stop the timer whilst I reach that state of not being exactly fully conscious of my immediate surroundings.

Maybe I can swing my hand in such a manner that it touches the “stop” button and that way as I fall asleep I have one less worry to worry about. Maybe that would work, and if it did then I’d be set. There is a good chance that the dreams would also be alright and so I’d wake up in a state of neutrality. That’d be a fine thing, I think. There are better things but there also are worse things and so I think waking up in a state of neutrality would be the best situation here.

I also need to consider the fact that I need to sleep comfortably which is something that I don’t do often enough and that is a problem. In this particular instance I’d fall asleep at my desk and considering all the surfaces are hard, it would not be comfortable. Still, at the same time I am thankful for being able to sleep in a place that is sheltered and in a manner that allows me to complain about comfort and the like, but that has little to do with the need to not fall asleep whilst I write all of this out.

So long as I don’t fall asleep right now I should be fine, but there is no telling as to what will happen from here. There is every possibility that I could fall asleep before I finish this sentence. Unfortunately I don’t know if that will actually be the case, but I need to keep it in mind as I write all of this out, but I hope that I stay awake long enough to finish this.

The time it took to write one thousand words: 12:07:05

This sort of feels like a continuation of the previous writing.
Compared to most of the things I write, this also feels really focused.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 1018: Tired and Grouchy

Alright, so I had written something out about how I was tired and I was going on a tangent, but then I lost the thing and now I’m starting again and that makes me feel annoyed. Sure, I’m not meant to announce that, in that particular manner, but I have now and it has been said and now I’m here. Not sure as to where to go from here, but I can confirm that I am quite tired and need more sleep, and also that I’m going to finish this off before I do anything else as I need to get this out of the way.

Well, I don’t need to, but once more I feel a strong compulsion to write and writing is what I am doing. I am feeling compelled to write whatever it is that I need to write and as such it is being put down on the screen and then it will be read buy someone at some point down the track. Well, maybe it won’t, but this is how I would like to believe everything will go down. I’m sure that there are other ways in which all of this could unfold, but let us just assume that this will indeed be the case.

Right now I’m typing with my eyes closed. I don’t know as to why I felt the need to mention that, but it is what I am doing and so I will keep doing that.

Either that or I won’t as it is not an efficient way to write; not yet, anyway.

So I’ll just sit here and twiddle my thumbs and hope for the best and get this all done, then move toward the next thing of which there is an idea and I’ll once more try to be something something and then there will be some sort of progress that can be measured in a way that shows progress rather than suggests.

Anyway, I’m tired and grouchy and I don’t want to do anything, but I’m going to do stuff and I’m going to get that stuff out of the way. I need to stop writing about that, but I can’t help but do so at the moment. Perhaps this is not a good thing, but it is a thing at the moment and it is something that I am embracing, though now that I think about it there are other, more important things to embrace, such as getting rest and resting well and then coming out on top of the rest feeling as though I am on top of the rest, and all the other things that come with all of that and so on and so forth.

I should also probably look at how I am going to end this bit of writing as right now I’m not sure, but I’m sure that with enough words and letters I will work out how it will end, but maybe I’ll fall asleep before any ending can happen.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 04:59:56

So this is a messy writing, which I guess goes without saying, but I still said it, so there.

I think I may have aimed for speed a bit too much which affected the overall quality. Had I slowed down by a fair bit and thought about what it was that I was writing, this may have turned out much better.

From Corner to Clouds

There might be a few ones of the same tree coming after this one. Not sure yet.

Anyway, here is a tree as seen at a place that is considered a lookout spot.

Not sure what I was going for here, but I do like how the tree sits against the sky. I also like how it seems to be flowing outward in a controlled manner.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 1017: Along for the Ride

Doing things late in the evening once more, but sometimes that’s the way things go. Shouldn’t put too much pressure on myself. Only enough and only just enough; any more is excessive and may lead to some sort of literal collapse in which then I need to find a way to get around and move about and all that other stuff, but may be unable to do so due to being so compressed inward that there is no articulation left in my joints in any way, shape or form and my compression means less mobility, or something.

So anyway, as you can already tell, I don’t know as to w ere it is that I am going with this but that’s okay. Tonight that is fine. We’re just along for the ride. Myself included, maybe.

Don’t know as to who it is that is driving, but the ride is here and it’s going. It goes up and it goes down and it goes all the way around. Some bends are sharp, some are not and so a speed needs to be maintained and shifted and all of those other things that a speed needs in order to exist. I don’t know what they all are, but they’re there and by golly they need to be finicky sometimes.

I don’t always like finicky, but I know that I do like motion and so motion may take over at a later date. Maybe a later time rather than date; not sure yet. However, right now it is where it is and I’m there and not here, even though all evidence suggests that I am here and that’s all good and so on and so forth, but a ride off into the night is needed. However, instead of a ride off into the night, it will be a ride off into bed where I will nap for a few hours.

Not this ride; the one I need to take onboard later, or something.

So anyway it’s a dark and mysterious road that seems far more quiet than it actually is, and there’s nowhere to look other than forward which is where the lights shine. Maybe somehow that will disguise the twists and turns, but I imagine that the only way that that would happen is if the twists and turns are over long enough distances so as to not feel like they are something that is happening.

Perhaps I’d rather they be felt as that would somehow make it more exciting.

You know, this ride isn’t that fun. It’s not interesting and I want to get off of it already. I have other things to do. I have places to be. This is not what I had envisioned, and so I am done. I am finished. This is dull. It is boring. It is just a regular night drive without much excitement.

Then again, sometimes a lack of excitement is better than excitement, and so I might just continue being on this ride.

This  felt really easy to write and I think that shows in how the words flow, as this seems to flow smoothly to me. Not a good bit of writing, but an easy read.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 1016: May be an Encore

Alright, so I guess I should begin this one at the beginning and not the end, but alas, that is not how this is going to go. Instead I will end this at the end and begin this at the beginning and then everything will fall neatly into place and that will be that. There will be no encore.

There may be an encore.

So anyway, I think I’ve got all that I need to say out of the way. Therefore I should get on with the part where I thank everyone for helping me get to this particular point. Now, I need to keep the whole thing concise and within a constrained space, but I don’t know as to how to go about that if I am to be honest. Sure, I could just prattle on and go absolutely nowhere with whatever it is that I need to say. I could do all the things that don’t make for a good use of space. However, today is not that day. Today is the day where other things need to happen and happen they will. Yesterday was a non-event and so today needs to be an event… of things happening. Happen they will and get them done I will. Maybe.

Anyway, I am getting away from the topic at hand and the topic at hand is the one where I go on about how I need to make sure that my thanking of people is clear and concise. I need to make sure that it gets to the point and covers as much as possible. I don’t know if it will, but I hope regardless. I think that I can get the thing done, but I need to make sure that I can actually get the thing done. I need to make sure that I can get there and then have this all wrapped up. If I can’t, then such is the way of things, but I hope and I think I can.

There may be people that I can’t include in my thanking and if that is the case, then I don’t know as to whom it would be that would face the lack of inclusion. I don’t know if I could do that to anyone. Perhaps it would be better to not thank any one person and instead just thank everyone, even though in these times that may be a nebulous thing. Everyone could be anyone and I don’t think I have it in me to do that to someone, if I am to be honest. However, soon the striking must be done and the the process must be followed. There is little time to spare on working all of this out now and so I must do what I must do in order to get to where I need to be, and so therefore I will get to the point.

Here it comes.

Here comes the bit where I start the thanking.

It is now the time.

Fast, but a bit more messy than I had hoped.
