Five-Hundred Word Challenge 879: The Heaviness

A heaviness spreads over everything and weighs it all down, making it feel as though it is difficult to move due to undue pressure. It isn’t, but it feels that way.

The land and its inhabitants did not appreciate working under this kind of pressure. Everything and everyone was sluggish, and for what? For no discernible reason whatsoever. It wasn’t as though they had just woken up, though some had; they had been alert for ling enough to be as functional as allowable under normal circumstances. However, on this particular day, at this particular time, everything was so much heavier than usual.

It was difficult to move legs and it was difficult to lift arms. The act of drinking and eating became so much greater a task than what was deemed reasonable and so everyone and everything felt themselves in a position of suffering.

This of course was not desired. That which was would have rather gotten on with getting things done, but as that was not happening as it normally would have happened, instead of getting on with the doing of things, some people were just lying there, hoping that it would all soon pass.

Other would doggedly push on, defying what it was that they were experiencing and keep on trying to get things down, for there were indeed plenty of things that needed to get done and the resultant increase in pressure was not enough to prevent them from trying to do what it was that needed to see some sort of process toward some sort of completion.

Try as they might, the heaviness did not abate and it only seemed to increase as the day progressed. Fewer and fewer found themselves able to walk forward, and plenty had given up and taken to lying down for the day. Not necessarily on bedding, but wherever they were when they gave up. It was much easier for them that way.

Of course this act of giving up did not remove the heaviness of which they were all experiencing, but it made it significantly easier to cope with and at that point during the experience, having the heaviness not feel as cumbersome was considered a great victory by some.

Those that persisted struggled on and on. Despite increasing pressure they kept on doing what it was that they needed to do with varying success. As much as they wanted to persist, they too eventually felt overcome and so took to where they could lie down and hope that the heaviness would pass sooner instead of later. There was only so much that they could do and so they joined other people and organisms in lying down and waiting it out.

And so all were lying down and waiting it out, waiting for time to pass and hoping that the heaviness would lift so they could resume, but it did not and so they waited and day became night and night became day, until eventually the heaviness commenced its abatement.

Not great writing by any stretch.
Sort of felt necessary to write.

Slow and rigid, but gets imagery across.

Behind Trees

Another sunset at Smiths Lake.

This one is a bit less dramatic than ones I’ve shared of this part of Smiths Lake. It also feels like a quiet part of the sunset. Sort of peaceful and calm.

I hope you enjoy.

Looking Down Again

This is a different version of this photo.

When I was processing I went for a few different monochromatic versions.
The previously-shared version and this one were the strongest produced.

I didn’t want to share the two images together, mostly due to wanting them to appear sort of “away” from each other, if that makes sense. Perhaps I should have, but I didn’t.

I like how this version of the photo is much more of moody and atmospheric piece. There’s something grim about it that I find appealing.

The Ibis remains an ibis, but with its form and it now being in silhouette, it seems so much more like a heavy and perhaps mysterious presence than it does an ibis.

This is my submission into Leanne Cole‘s “Monochrome Madness” for this week.
I suggest checking out Leanne’s photography, as well as checking out what other people submit.

A lot of what people are submitting will likely end up here.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 878: Big Stretch

Well, that was a big stretch.

You see, I just stretched. I also exhaled at roughly the same time. The stretch was a nice and satisfying one. It was satisfying as I felt compelled to stretch in order to feel some sort of satisfaction, though really I felt compelled to stretch due to a sudden urge to stretch, which is what I did. It was a stretch and it was good.

Now I feel satisfied. I feel as though I just might have another stretch soon. Perhaps longer so as to get more satisfaction out of it, though I imagine that if I stand up and stretch some more it might not have the desired effect. Maybe it would. How am I to know until I conduct the act of stretching whilst in an upright position based on standing on my feet and being upright and stretching out a bit more? How am I to know until I commit the act?

However, I’d rather just bask in the satisfaction of having stretched and received a positive response from it due to the way that satisfaction and stretching seem to go together in the early hours of the morning. That is what I am going to do. I will not stand as I don’t feel like it. I may be compelled to do so soon as the beast of burden that is occupation will soon dawn upon me and put me in a position where I need to get ready, but for now I am happy to sit here and perhaps raise my arms up and stretch them out once more.

Maybe there will be a yawn included the next time. Dare I dream of such an occurrence?

I do.

But anyway, I’m sitting here and I’m feeling smug in my accomplishment despite it being a reflexive action that required no effort on my part, or at least no conscious effort on my part. I don’t care. It was the greatest thing this morning. Had my COFFEE, had a stretch and now I’m just king of the world. There’s nothing left to go on at this point. It’s all done. The rest of the day is not going to be anywhere near as satisfying as this one moment in time that I experienced and experienced with great gusto, or something.

The rest of the day is just an extra bonus, but a bonus that needs to be lived through and so lived through it will. There will be no doing of anything and all will fall to the ground and reveal itself as something that is something more than something less. It cannot hold a candle to the stretch of the morning and therefore there is little, if anything else that can be said without spoiling the decorum of relief when one stretches in such a relieving way.

Maybe I will go for that standing stretch. Maybe it won’t provide relief, but at the moment I feel like taking that risk.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 06:34:46

Well, now I’ve managed to write a whole lot of rubbish based on stretching my arms just before and the satisfaction that comes with that, so… yeah.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 877: Laziness, Relaxing

I sat here for a while, trying to work out what it was that I was going to write about. I wasn’t sure as to which direction I could go; nor was I sure that there were any ideas left over that I could make use of.

Well, there were some, but they kept getting pushed to the side. There were other things that I wanted to worry about, such as doing as little as possible.

When I’d go to write I’d find something else to do, wanting to put it all off rather than just sit there and do the thing and so very little as done for a good part of the day. of course this was something rather detrimental, but I just wanted to put it all off and forget that any of it existed. I just wanted to do nothing, but there was everything waiting and of course the only way to get into it all was by… well, getting into it all.

However, that was just something pushed off to the side. Perhaps it was the lack of ideas that led to the procrastination, though really it was just the refusing to commit to sit down and do something and of course I only had to hold myself responsible for my inaction. Still, it was something that I reveled in, even if it was not something I was aware I was reveling in.

And so the day was wasted and little to nothing was worked upon, but at least there was relaxation and relaxation was always a desired thing to have. After a hard day of doing very little, doing very little was increasingly welcome.

Still, I sat there trying to think of something that might be able to be completed. Some sort of spark that could lead to some sort of act of genius that would be difficult to capture in any other way. I sat there, thinking, thinking and thinking, but nothing came. I tried to muster up what was there, but instead of something that could be nurtured and grown, no idea came. Sure, I could have written and put something down and then tried to grow that; start with no idea and then see what comes out the more I worked on it, but that was not something I wanted to do for I didn’t feel that was a path worth traveling.

Of course that was a silly way of thinking and feeling about the whole idea of writing, but that was how I felt and perhaps had I not, I may have achieved a bit more a bit sooner with a bit less time wasted. Still, the relaxation was desired and fulfilling in the way that empty laziness often is, and it was great in the way that not doing anything when you have the time to do so is great. Lingering feelings lingered and pressure mounted, but still I kept on relaxing until it was time to relax elsewhere.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 06:02:22

I was trying to write someth8ing firmly based in reality and this is what came from that attempt.

A bit too much repetition. I think some of this is alright, but the repetition brings this down quite a lot.

Bridge Out of the Opera House

This was taken roughly a week-and-a-half ago.

I was taking some shots of these two things when I thought I’d try to make The Sydney Harbour Bridge look like it was coming out of The Sydney Opera House.

I think I managed to imply what I wanted to show, but I’m going to need to work on this scene a bit more.

I think the colour balance is nice. The shot is a little too bright in some spots, but overall I think the light works well with the colour to help this scene feel either too harsh or too subdued.

This is my submission into the one hundred-and-thirty-third Lens-Artists Photo Challenge.

The theme for this one is “My Photography Journey“.

I’ve been doing photography for longer than Stupidity Hole has been around, though until I bought the 60D in 2011 (and subsequently the 5DMarkIV in 2018), I wasn’t taking photos as frequently as I now am.

That being said, I think that if you were to look over how the photos shared here were compared to now, you’d see not much of a shift in subject, but a slight upward shift in quality.

I might not have quite captured what I was hoping to capture with this one, but I do think that this does show a progress in thinking about space and angle.

The challenge is hosted by four people and cycles weekly:

Week 1 – Patti

Week 2 – Ann-Christine aka Leya

Week 3 – Amy

Week 4 – Tina

This week’s challenge is curated by Amy. The next one will be curated by Tina, with the theme for hers being “Before and After”.

The challenges are pretty fun and there’s a lot of room for interpretation that doesn’t get in the way of enjoyment. If you’re into photography, then I suggest participating, or at the least checking out what other people are submitting.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 876: An Early Start

Well, this morning is a bit of a race. I’ve been sitting here for a while, not doing anything but soon I have to get ready and head on out and so I need to get this done sooner rather than later so I can continue on with the continuing on and all that other stuff that I regularly prattle on about.

It is going to be a busy day. There is going to be some outside stuff and some inside stuff. There is going to be some moving about. Some walking will occur, as well as a lot of sitting. I will get this done and then I will get the next thing done.

Perhaps there shall be some cloud watching and hoping that it rains sooner than it does not rain. There is always hope to run off and there are always hopes and dreams.

I need to get a lot done today. I need to do a lot of things all the time so that isn’t different from the norm. That’s okay. I don’t mind, to be honest. I like being busy. I also like rambling and writing nonsensical stuff. Plenty of things out there that I like doing and there are plenty of things out there that I do not like doing. That is the way of things and that is the path that I follow, or something.

I can’t make this more dramatic at the moment as I’m trying to pump this out and I’m trying to think of something that may be interesting to say or write down, but there is nothing that comes to mind and so the continuing mediocrity of the continual stagnation continues. That may be a bad thing.

However, I will of course continue on as I’ve come this far and it is too late to turn on back so I need to keep on writing this dull tirade so that it ends and then I can move toward the next thing which is rather close. So close in fact that I can almost smell it if it did indeed produce a smell, but as it is a digital thing it does not produce a smell… yet. You never know what future technology holds unless you work in fields that are based on research into future technology, or have some inkling about what future technology holds and what it means and all of that other stuff that I’m not trying to get into but somehow am as that is what I am doing at the present moment.

Not the research bit; just lazy discussion of it.

So anyway, I think that now that that is all out of then way I shall present you all with a lengthy closing sentence that does little else other than demonstrate its length by going nowhere and continuing on with expressing its length as a sentence which of course serves no one and annoys everyone, but sometimes that’s what a sentence does, you know.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 05:04:87

I slowed down quite a bit toward the end, but that’s fine.

A lot of this is less than okay. Some of this has potential.

Well, most writing has potential, but… yeah.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 875: Aiming for a Time Advantage

Racing against a timer is sometimes fun, but sometimes it also is not fun. It has far more of an ability to keep time than you do and therefore it makes itself so much harder to defeat in the ultimate battle of ultimate destiny. This is of course a bit of a problem, but it creates a great challenge to work against.

At the moment I am not trying to work against a timer, but with it. It may or may not agree with what I put forward. I am hoping that it agrees as that will make it easier for me whilst maintaining the challenge aspect.

You see, what I am putting forward is for time to slow down whilst I do the timed writing stuff so that I can get more done in less time. I think that this is a good idea and whilst it does offer a bit of an advantage over how I normally write, it is in no way biased toward my performing better with loses difficulty in the act of performing well when it comes to writing a whole load of rubbish that seldom, if ever, is worth reading.

I don’t know if the timer will agree to this. I hope it does as the benefits are vast and many and so long as they remain vast and many, I will be able to get more done in less time. However, I’m worried that the timer will have ulterior motives toward rejecting this, wanting to play fair and all. However, it is not fair. It is not fair that I must be constrained by the whimsy of fate and the flowing forward of time. I deserve more freedom surrounding what it is that I do on each day and therefore I should be allows to have the timer slow down so that I can move at a rate that is perceived to be faster.

Ideally, whilst writing I would like for the timer to have time flow at a rate of one second of time for every two seconds of time. Every three seconds of time would be nice too, but you can’t be too greedy with these things. You need to lie low and then see how far you can push your limits. Perhaps if you do this, then you will be able to get far.

Of course if this is not allowed, I will kick my feet in the dirt and dig in my heels and get cranky and all that other stuff. Maybe then I will be able to get my way. It is the only fair thing, after all, that I do get my way in this particular instance. However, if not, then I will have to keep on challenging myself against the timer in the regular way which is of course much less fun and much more boring, but at the very least it is still a fair challenge and one that I can still keep on doing.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 05:43:36

Just a bit of silly writing for this afternoon.

I like the idea that I was working with on this one. Might’ve worked better without the constraint of a timer.

A Poem About Not Worrying About Meaning in a Poem

I was trying to throw a bunch of words together whilst not thinking much about what I was writing. Then I started thinking about what I was writing.

This is kind of okay.

I hope you enjoy.

Have ideas that will not
Float on up to the surface
Instead of trying to lure them out
I’ll just throw a few words together

Not going to worry
About the meaning
Not something that matters
Until it comes a time where it does

So long as they hold
Coherent order
Then they can remain
As meaningless as desired

Gliding Ibis

I’m pretty sure the ibis was gliding when I took this photo. Not entirely sure, but pretty sure.

Based on the leg position, it’s possible that the ibis was preparing to land, though as I don’t know much about birds that could be quite incorrect.

I like how this photo gives an idea of how an ibis can move through the air. I also like how this shows the ibis as graceful and majestic, and moving with great ease.

I hope you enjoy.
