Five-Hundred Word Challenge 750: Period Known as “Spring”

And now the weather is warming up as we are currently in the second day of the period known as “spring”. It is known as that due to everyone suddenly having a bit more bounce in their step. They need to be careful they don’t spring up too high as they may exit the planet’s atmosphere and end up somewhere else. I hear that that is quite undesirable a thing to have to deal with as it can take a while to return.

Anyway, we’re now in whatever this season is meant to be and there are birds around and flowers are revealing themselves after many a month of being in hiding, unless there were plants that were revealing themselves during the past few months and have decided to hide away in the coming months, in which case they are now going in hiding. Also, the birds were already moving about; some in far greater numbers than what one usually sees. I guess that means that they will continue to do whatever it is that they will do. Probably a good thing rather than a bad thing, if I do say so myself and so on and so forth.

The air is a little warmer sooner and the temperature is gradually going up rather than down, but it still remains cold in the evenings. That’s fine. Prefer the cold to the hot. Hopefully the change is not too rapid. We’ve had enough natural disasters throughout the country over the past few years. Would prefer they not be exacerbated even further, but admittedly there is a great deal of hope behind that as right now it does not seem to be the case, but all you can do is keep trying and working on informing people and helping them make informed decisions, right?

My apologies; I seem to have lost myself for a moment there. Anyway, as I was saying, new season, old things, repetition, cycles, cycles and going around in cycles. There’s a bit going on and at the same time very little. It’s a pleasant day outside. A bit cold inside, but it will warm up and then there will be some warmth in here as well as out there. There are things to do. This season often involves waking up as some sort of symbolic gesture to the everything, or something like that. It seems as though things may just be a little less sleepy, but of course the only way to truly find out is by going outside multiple days in a row and there is little chance of that happening, unless there is a great chance of that happening, in which case the chance is great. Perhaps the chance is greater than what is possibly imaginable.

Anyway, we’re in a new season and hopefully it’s a smooth season. Hopefully things aren’t rough, but who knows what will happen? Just need to take it one day at a time, persevere and keep moving in the forward direction.

Could’ve written this better, I think.
Mostly influenced by going up to the local gardening shop this morning.
Perhaps I should’ve just written about gardening.

One Tree Above the Others

During my recent jaunt through the bush I saw this scene. I tried to capture the tree sticking out among the rest, which I think that (in a most technical sense), I did. However, I really wanted to show its height.

I think that if I had my 70-200 with me it would’ve been much easier to emphasize, but I didn’t so I worked with what I had.

I feel that in a way this does show the tree’s height well, whilst also making it feel small within the context of the greater landscape. It easily draws attention to itself, but it’s also quite easy to let the eyes wander away.

This is my submission into the one hundred-and-twelfth Lens-Artists Photo Challenge.

The theme for this one is “Pick a Word“.

I went with “growing” and “crowded”; both of which are applicable (in certain ways) to this image.

The challenge is hosted by four people and cycles weekly:

Week 1 – Patti

Week 2 – Ann-Christine aka Leya

Week 3 – Amy

Week 4 – Tina

This one is hosted Leya. Next week’s is guest-hosted by Rusha Sams of Oh the Places We See.

I recommend checking out how people are interpreting the challenges. I also recommend joining in. It’s a growing, fun community.

I hope you enjoy.

One Thousand Word Challenge 59: Ecrement

So I started off writing this about how I was certain that at the particular point of writing when I commenced writing I was certain that I was awake, though it needs to be clarified that I had been awake for quite a few hours by that point. It was poetic license I was trying to employ poetic license to the text of which I was writing, but it didn’t quite work out and so I scrapped the whole thing.

My plan was to talk about dreams by using the term “ecrement” as a springboard and hopefully build into something that, whilst perhaps not deep or highly intellectual, would at least provide some sort of food for thought. That was the idea. However, the scrapping was a better choice. As said before (saying this so I can justify my repetition), it didn’t quite work out. It didn’t have a certain feeling to it and so I dropped the whole thing like something worth getting rid of. Instead it is replaced by whatever this is. I’m going to try and stretch this out and hope that it works, but it probably won’t, though probably it just might.

So, before I really get into the proverbial meat of things, I should probably explain the term ecrement. It’s a term that I remember from my dream last night. I can’t provide the context, nor the reasoning for its use; the only other thing I remember from the dream is how bizarre it was. I have a vague sense of some forms, but they might be my mind trying to fill in blanks. It was bizarre – I know that much – and it featured the term, “ecrement”.

I’ve done a search to see if this term means anything and it seems as though it does not. It may be a surname, so perhaps it means something in a language that I don’t speak. That’s always possible. However, outside of that (and the potentially being a surname), I have nothing. I don’t know why it was a term that came into my dream and I don’t know why I can still remember it so vividly as a term. Perhaps it might be due to it coming close to being words that I do know, but not quite getting there. Anyway, I digress.

Actually, maybe I don’t digress. Maybe I do not digress as it is interesting to discuss dreams and how they have have an effect on you. Often I remember the dreams I have quite well, though I only end up writing about a few of them for reasons of laziness, among others, but I do think it is good to discuss them and see what comes of said discussion. I think it is interesting to see how dreams do affect and impact on people. There are so many ways in which a dream can go and strike at someone’s emotions and memory. Some can be far more vivid than desired, whereas some can be quite vague, yet highly impressionable.

I don’t know much about the specifics of dreams. My understanding is that they have something to do with the subconscious (among other things), but I have to admit that I could be completely incorrect in my understanding of that. There is a lot of research into dreams (as far as I’m aware) and I’m not quite interested in going down that rabbit hole (at this particular time, because who knows if that will change in the future), so my understanding is (as far as I’m aware [I’ve done that twice now in one sentence, which probably isn’t a good thing, but Stupidity Hole has never been part of The Praetorian Guard for grammar, spelling and efficient sentence structure]), not the strongest.

I find it interesting that dreams can stick with someone for a lengthy period of time. Often they disappear within the waking moments and only the implication of something experienced during sleep is what remains. Sometimes that implication lasts for a few hours, but then is forgotten. When dreams are vivid enough to be remembered after waking up, that is when it seems they will linger and last as though they are on a repeat of sorts. Some parts of the dream may disappear where others become more focused upon in a way that implies some sort of importance to those parts.

I don’t remember the dream I had last night, but the term “ecrement” stuck. I guess my mind removed all of what it felt was unnecessary and left me with that term; well, that and the understanding that it was a bizarre dream.

What does it mean? Do I even care? Not really. I’m more curious as to why that particular term stuck out more than if it has any meaning about something I may or may not be experiencing, though I imagine that these things are related to each other in this context, though maybe they are not.

Anyway, dreams are a pretty wonderful thing, though of course there is no denying that they can be as terrifying as they can be pleasant. It’s all part of the experience of the mind and how it moves things around and allows us to experience things in certain ways. There’s probably a lot more that can be said about the whole thing, but that’s not how I’m doing things today. Today it’s all just surface touching. Digging deeper can be saved for some other time. As always, there are things that need doing and the doing of these things needs to commence sooner rather than later. I am awake and if I am awake, I am capable of getting things underway. Doing at least that much will mean a little less to do tomorrow, and so on and so forth.

So, with all of that being said it is time to wrap this post up. The day ahead is a productive one, though perhaps I’ll slip into a daydream at some point.

The time it took to write one thousand words: 17:58:61

Happy with the speed. Not the fastest; not the slowest.

I feel as though the writing is quite smooth in places. Generally comes together quite well. Some parts are weaker than I’d hoped, but that’s the way things go on the odd occasion.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 749: Torment of the Explanation

So it is currently the time of the morning. That is also known as the morning. Time of the morning. Morning. You get the idea.

So I’m here and I am present but all I want to know about is the beating of the wings against the molecules forming oxygen and the air currents that the birds surf as they glide on above the land of the earth and thus the land of the creatures that are not able to take flight without some sort of external assistance. How does their wings moving in a particular way affect the molecules? Do they move or do they keep on floating on by? Do they do something entirely different? Of course I’m not really asking these questions, but they are interesting to think about, depending on how you go about thinking about them, of course.

There are other interesting things to think about that are out there but this is not what this bit of writing is about. This bit of writing is all about imagery and words being strung together and to be honest I don’t know as to how much longer I can keep this up. I am sitting here and I am writing this and already the idea is losing any form of traction or intrigue that it might hold. Perhaps I am not quite in the right mindset for such thinking. I guess that if that is indeed it case, it is likely due to work staring in a few minutes and thus my need to start work is much more of a priority than writing about stuff that does not involve work. Well, that and also have been doing a bit of editing this morning so I guess I’m more in work mode than I normally would be, which is a good and a bad thing. Hopefully I don’t peter out too early. If I do then work is going to be more of a challenge than usual and I’d rather it not be as the customers are gnashing their teeth a little more than usual and I’m lacking the patience to tolerate it at all times. Such is life. I’ll make do with it, I guess.

Well, actually I will as right now there is little choice, so I guess that the moral of this is that I will get the thing done and once I’ve got the thing done I will commence the job that involves the doing of the work. I think that today might just be a good day. Perhaps it will even be great. I do know that at the very least there will be the achieving of things that do not involve the dealing with the yelling of the customers and the torment of the explanation. Once those other, external things can be worked upon there will be much joy and celebration, but of course it will be on a small scale. Don’t want to be overly-hubristic about what I achieve.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 05:37:67

I started off wanting to write something silly. Perhaps a bit grandiose. Not sure. Anyway, it ended up devolving into a smattering of words that revealed very little other than surface rambling.

Trickles Down

I was going to leave tonight with just the photo I shared earlier. Tired, et cetera.
Instead of doing so I pulled this out of somewhere.

I feel as though I’m trying to create an idea of an image of music as a physical form.
Not sure why I chose water as the main purveyor of that image. Probably due to liking water.

I hope you enjoy.

It is a gentle shimmering that is experienced
As the sound trickles on down its own body
Much like droplets of water
As they slide down a window after rainfall

The beat remains removed whilst leaving an image
Something of which strongly suggests its presence
Most certainly not heard, but quite clearly felt
It guides the sound even when it remains absent

Many strings create a sense of water flowing
Some sounds briefly surface before they go under
To build on the growing body of sound
As it keeps on flowing toward a singular destination

Eventually it begins to narrow
And nothing else adds to the body
It begins to shrink as it fades away
Until once more it is given opportunity to fill and rise.

Out for a Stroll

Here’s a shot of an Ibis walking around looking for something to eat.

This photo feels a bit moody to me. Might be the lighting.

It’s simple and presents the Ibis’ elegance and grace quite well, I think.

This is available as a print.

I hope you enjoy.

Eating Time

This was taken a few days ago whilst walking along The Cooks River.

For most of the time this galah was eating very little of its body was visible.

It was quite cute.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 748: Night Writing

And now I’m writing in the evening and the whole schedule is thrown out the window. I didn’t have one in the first place but it was there, hounding me. I used to write in the mornings before anything would happen (after leaving the house but before the starting of the job) but that is no longer happening, though sometimes it is. To be fair, there were plenty of times when I’d also write during the afternoon and evening, but right now I’m trying to establish a pattern and doing this shortly before the desire for sleep kicks in and takes everything over is probably not the best time to do these things. My typing is currently loud and it is not relaxing to hear the keys react so… verbosely to my striking them. Perhaps dramatically is a better word to use in this case, but I’m not going to get into that right now as there are other things to take care of.

Okay; so there’s not really anything for me to take care of right now, but I do want to pretend that there is. Sure, there is a lot of writing that I need to do and that writing pertains to the process of conducting reviews, but that can wait until tomorrow. There is also the reading that needs to be done. There also also is the need to listen to the music of which I am currently trying to listen to and that requires me to stop hitting the keyboard with my fingers. These are things that need doing.

I think that really what I should be doing is not writing at all. I should just go to sleep and then revisit this whole thing in the morning. After going for a walk. After going to Flower Power to buy some pots and seeds and whatever else I may or may not need to grow more plants. After doing a bit of weed removal. Then perhaps I should consider the act of writing and then I should probably take to the keyboard and pummel it with quick, hard presses of the buttons upon which press something that sends a signal that translates into something that has a visual component to its existence.

Yes; I should do that. There shall be no more things from me once I finish this thing; at least, for this evening. However, that might just change and there might just be a few more things. The night is young and I need rest but there still remains a little bit of time in which I can get a few more things done before I decide to put my foot down and tell myself that there will be no more of the doing of the things. At that point I shall turn my computing device down and go to the object I refer to as “bed”, then get under the blankets, close my eyes and hope that I sleep in a comfortable manner.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 06:22:21

I’ve got to get back into the habit of writing in the morning, when I’m a bit more awake.

A Poem About Making Green Tea

I think that for the next time I write any sort of poetry, I’m going to look at using longer lines. It is something I haven’t done in a while. I don’t think it will make what I write better, but I feel that for my ability and lack thereof it might be better if I go for longer rather than shorter. Then when (if) I improve enough I can look at being a bit more brief.

Anyway, here’s a poem about making green tea.

Whilst I like all the verses here, I like the first the most. The others feel as though they came from something else, I think.

I hope you enjoy.

Green huddled up and dry
Sits in a net among itself
Awaits nothing, expects nothing
Serves one purpose it knows not

Liquid fills the container
Of which inside the net rests
Reaches green and brings it higher
Until no more liquid enters

Upon the container a lid now rests
Loosely sealing everything inside
In the dark the green unfurls
To expand in volume

The lid is removed
As is the net
The green leaves the container
Leaving a light brown brew

Loftus Station, Afternoon

This station, but as seen with a little bit more sunlight pouring down onto its existence.

I like this photo for its geometric qualities, as well as the sharp contrast between most of the shaded and light areas.

It’s a simple photo, but it feels quiet and rather like the afternoon. Perhaps a relaxed afternoon.

I hope you enjoy.
