Five-Hundred Word Challenge 643: Into the Mountains

So yesterday I spent a good few hours trying to write, but unfortunately the horrors of fatigue reared their ugly head and I was struck down for my insolence.

Yesterday morning I was up early. I was up earlier than necessary. A housemate and I were heading out into the mountains, far from people so as to get some exercise and go mushroom picking.

I can’t eat mushrooms but I find the activity fun. It also gives me more photography opportunities, driving opportunities, and the ability to go for a walk without having to worry about running into people.

So I woke up far too early for the drive to the mountains which was followed a few hours later by heading on up into the mountains. We made a stop off at a lookout which provided us with a rather lovely view of a void as there was so much fog that most of the scenery may as well have never existed.

After that we kept on going and eventually hit a point where we couldn’t go further due to the area being blocked off to anyone who wasn’t a resident. Not very fun for us, but we went elsewhere and got a pretty good harvest.

I managed to get a few photos as well as a good walk. Seeing a lot of fog was nice, as was seeing a bit of rain.

And of course we kept our distance from people which was also nice as there were very few people we saw and thus very few people we needed to stay away from.

It would be nice to do more walking around where I live, but there’s quite a few people out and about now and that’s not so enjoyable. Everyone who is able to should be getting exercise and staying active where possible, but I’ve preferred seeing less rather than more people whilst out walking and exploring for a while now, so being able to get into a remote area through driving for a bit is a plus for me. It was nice, it was cool, it was quiet. It was both relaxing and exciting, though the excitement was quite subtle.

Maybe it would be better to say that it was enjoyable and fun rather than exciting. Not really sure, but I think I get the idea across.

But of course we had to come home. Whilst there was a couple of stops on the way, the drive was mostly uneventful and we got home pretty quickly. That’s to be expected, I suppose. There is a little bit less traffic on the roads right now, though it is only a little bit. Plenty of people are still driving about as though nothing has changed, though of course there still are plenty of those driving around who need to for their job.

But all in all it was a good day, but once more I’m awake early. Not as early as yesterday morning, but earlier than I’d like.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 11:24:55

This was slower than I hoped which is probably due to being tired.

Kind of plain, but I wanted to write about the experience and I’m happy with how the writing turned out.

Written at home.
